I will first start off by saying I DO NOT recommend purchasing furniture from JC Penney (JCP). I just moved to my first home and we are pretty close to a nearby Mall outlet. When browsing the mall we had visited the JC Penney and I had seen the gorgeous Grand Marquis 7 piece dining set. I kept this in the back of my mind waiting for a good sale, while browsing other furniture stores in the interim. Soon enough JCP marked down their inflated furniture prices down by 40% - 50% and they had the friends and family promotion that took an additional 25% off, in addition if you opened up a new credit line with the store you would receive an additional 10% off; furthermore on purchases over $1500 you could request 36 month promotional financing. Taking all factors into account and looking at other furniture they offered I also decided to purchase the matching Grand Marquis Server/Hutch, Curio Cabinet, AND the Renaissance Bed Set with two matching night stands and chest dresser. A nice $5k+ chunk of change after discounts to hand over to JCP.
I took off work early two days before the sale was supposed to end and I went to open my credit line and place my furniture order, which took 3 hours because the associate was having computer problems and wound up just calling into their furniture center and placing the order with the gentleman on the phone. The associate was still having computer problems and the order was placed over the phone I didn't receive a receipt at the store, she gave me a handwritten note with the total amount and order number. I went home and printed out the order confirmation with the information provided.
However the next day when I reviewed the order online, it had shown as cancelled and I didn't receive so much as a call to inform me. I check my credit card account and the amount of the purchase was still reflecting as pending. So I called up the furniture department multiple times to get to the root cause and I was given a couple of different answers. One person told me that the items weren't loaded in their system as a kit properly, another person told me that one or more of the items was out of stock all together (despite the fact of the associate checking before placing the order), and lastly I was told it was because more than 12 items were on the order and when there is a multiple piece order for sets/kits each item in the kit is considered one item. It took multiple calls over the course of 3 days to figure all of this out because some of the associates told me I need to wait a day for the reloading of the kits to hit their system. I SHOULD have walked away at this point, but they were promising me the original price I had paid for so I held out. But it gets better, even after 3 days I could not place any new orders because the original order was still pending and it was affecting my available credit. I tried calling the credit services to see if there was a way to expedite getting the transaction off of my account and of course they couldn't, and I understood that. So I had to wait until the credit dropped off 4 days later.
As soon as I could I called into the furniture center to place my orders. The first gentleman that I worked with was willing to work with me well enough to give me the original pricing that I had paid on my original order. Multiple times I stated the amounts of each item I wanted, as reflected on my previous order number, which I provided, and made it very clear I was wanting the promotional financing. With all of the issues I was having I was trying to be as clear as possible to avoid mistakes, but alas we are only human, he only included one night stand in my bedroom furniture order. The associate said he could cancel the order and put in a new one, and I vehemently refused that option given the pending credit issue I had just experienced, and I am glad I did. Within seconds the charge appeared on my account. So he placed another order for the nightstand and promised me it could come with my larger bedroom furniture order despite the shipping description showing as USPS.
Then when we were working to put in my dining furniture order, he told me that the table was out of stock and couldn't place the order. I looked online and he was right, it said out of stock and boy was I upset. So I did not place my dining room order with him at that time. Later that day however, I looked at the set again online and it was showing as in stock. I called them back up to place the order. I worked with a young lady, she verified that the item was in stock after I explained my earlier issue, and we placed the order seemingly without any issues and I thought my plight was over. When the pending transaction posted to my credit account the promotional financing was not applied! I don't have enough room to write about that headache. The nightstand did ship via USPS despite promises and then on the scheduled delivery date the delivery truck was a no call no show. read more
