We made an appointment with his optometrist in San Jose who said everything was fine and you have nothing to worry about, it's just an episode. Not feeling good when we got home my husband decided to get another opinion. He went online and found a local optometrist who was Dr. Robert Wolff, MD, he contacted him and explained his vision loss and Dr. Wolff scheduled him an appointment two days later. Dr. Wolff was very pleasant and professional. I couldn't believe how thorough Dr. Wolff's exam was. He performed test after test after test and when we walked out of his office we felt confident his diagnosis was on point. He insisted we go right over to the hospital emergency with good reason. The emergency room doctor spoke to Dr. Wolff and they was in agreement as to what needed to be done. Blood work as well as a CT Scan confirmed Dr. Wolff's diagnosis. Thanks to you my husband won't lose the sight in his only good eye. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your making yourself available to see my husband when you did. Given the appointment time you scheduled, 5:00pm I am certain you deliberately stayed late so you could examine my husband knowing the seriousness he was facing especially on a Saturday. We thank you for all your help including following up on Sunday as well. Doctors like you are very rare and we appreciate everything you have done for my husband. Thank you ....

She was all amped up, like she always was quite frankly, and wouldn't let go of the stick. Like a dummy, I pulled on the stick while telling her to "give", and suddenly the stick broke, while I was pulling on it and she was hanging on. Before I knew what happened, I managed to shove that stick right through my RayBans into my right eye. Those ultimately sunglasses saved my eyeball, but did almost rip my eyelid off, and mangled my cornea as well. My friend immediately drove me to Dominican Hospital. The ER took a quick look and told me to get to Watsonville Hospital asap, where Dr. Hamako was "on call" for eye emergencies.........just that ONE day per week! Talk about God giving me some luck. Some 4 hours of surgery (cosmetic on my eyelid, and 22 stitches in my cornea) and my eyeball was saved by Dr. Hamako. Another 1/16 of an inch of penetration, and I most likely would have lost the eye......those RayBans slowed the stick down just enough. I can't read very well with the eye, but I can see good enough with it, and oddly, in dark situations, nowadays I can see better with it than my good eye...LOL......(it is because the corneal scarring bounces light around inside the eye in daylight or well lit rooms, making everything blurry, etc.) He advised me against corneal transplantation, basically saying the risk wasn't worth the reward, and I am 100% confident in that recommendation. Thanks again Conrad, and I hope you and yours are doing well!

I cannot speak on whether these comments reflect any management awareness, but as a patient, it made the environment extremely uncomfortable to hear what I understood and perceived as carelessly ignorant. Living in California for a long time, these were not words I expected to hear and very inappropriate for the workplace let alone a "professional" clinic. The rest of my experience here has been great; amazing doctors and aides who have persistently helped me through my slough of issues, which makes this all the more unfortunate. I will not be returning and would strongly encourage a refresher of basic empathy, inclusiveness, and client-sided professionalism.
