Dr. Hong is stellar she took the time to understand me and my needs. The registration staff were very kind and courteous. The office is immaculate and it didn't feel like a factory collecting copays. They actually asked for my copay at the end of my visit. Overall it was an extremely pleasant visit for my prescription. On par with my previous optometrist - Insight Vision Center Costa Mesa. - Shout out Dr. schramm! I do recommend! Thank you Dr. Hong for your care. read more

Called a big local optometry office and got an appointment 3 months out for an eye exam. Not gonna happen! Googled for other local optometrists and Maureen Hong got great reviews. I got an appointment within 3 days and had a totally pleasant experience with her and her staff. I liked the personal attention of her small practice but she still had all of the latest testing equipment. Got new glasses within 2 weeks and everything worked out great with her extensive option of eye wear. She's now my go to optometrist!! read more

Since moving to the Monterey peninsula from the Bay Area I have been MSCI the drive back to see my eye doc. Old habits die hard. Until one day you wake up and ask yourself "why am I doing this?" So after much investigating I chose Dr Hong to do my eye exam. What a bright star is all I can say. Smart, witty and present, she makes you feel comfortable, relaxed and confident you'll get a great exam., all of which happened as advertised. She uses the latest equipment ( I know because my previous Doc didn't have the same tools. She offers some great frame selections that I think are worth looking over. Go, enjoy, and see clearly. read more

I was in town for a wedding and forgot my contacts so I gave Modern a call to see if I could purchase a pair/box! I emailed my prescription over, then they called back right away and had took the time to find me a 1:1 alternative in stock to my typical monthlies. I was able to be glasses free at the wedding and I'm so grateful!! Choose them if you're local! read more

Just before the Christmas holidays in 2025, I had an amazing appointment with Dr. Hong. My wife had switched to this health provider about 2 years ago and highly recommended that I check them out. Doctor Hong was very nice and carefully explained to me the details of my eye exam. I was delighted to see the truly modern equipment that is utilized for eye exams, (I work in the IT industry so I have appreciation for doctor's who are up on latest tech). The office tech was very hospitable and knowledgeable in assisting me to pick glass frames with options that I liked in my price range. So I definitely recommend Modern Eyes Optometry. read more

We were on vacation in Monterey and my husband forgot his contacts at home. The staff at Modern Eyes Optometry was extremely kind and provided us with trial contact lenses free of charge to get us through the trip. We were so grateful for their compassion without which our trip would certainly have been derailed. Thank you! read more

I visited this office to evaluate if progressive or single vision glasses would work for me, but unfortunately the prescriptions I received did not work well. Upon my return visit to discuss the issue, I felt there was minimal effort offered in providing the opportunity to fine-tune the prescription, and I was left with the impression that no further options were available. While the office itself was professional and courteous, I would advise future patients to be very clear up front about expectations and to confirm whether follow-up adjustments will be supported if the initial prescription isn't a good fit. read more

I highly recommend Dr.Maureen Hong for her expertise, professionalism, and kindness. She is friendly as is her office staff, Sarah, and the office is nicely appointed and welcoming. If I was closer I would go here as my regular optometry. What a wonderful place. Staff (Sarah) was soooo wonderful and accommodating being that I was coming from 2 1/2 hours away. I was purchasing frames that are not available in my area and Modern eyes had a wonderful selection of Brands and a variety of frames. I loved that the doctor came out and even greeted us. She is so pleasant. I can not wait to come back and buy more frames. They were able to allow me to purchase there and then ship to my home. Excellent service!!! The order came so fast and Sarah was wonderful in keeping me updated and informed. I can't wait to go back here again. Thank you. read more

I was 500 miles away from home ready to play some golf in Monterey and realized I had forgotten my contact lenses. I contacted Moderneyes and spoke to Sarah, and her and Dr. Hong were my heroes. Dr. Hong is spectacular. I have a lot of eye issues, and she took the time to explain them carefully and patiently to me, also answering any questions I had. The staff there is also polite and accommodating. The office itself is beautiful. I moved to Monterey a couple years ago and started out seeing a larger optometry clinic with rude people behind the desk and a doctor who seemed impatient with answering my questions. They were also unwilling to contact my vision insurance for what I knew would lower the cost of my contacts. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me. At Modern Eyes, however, I felt welcome and was treated warmly and professionally. read more

I recently moved to Monterey and was looking for a new optometrist after not visiting any optometrist for over fifteen years. I found Dr. Hong on yelp. There is a reason why she gets only five-star reviews. Dr. Hong is the most amazing optometrist that I have ever seen. She is incredibly personable, smart and doesn't try to upsell you in buying expensive glasses. I had a very thorough eye exam and Dr. Hong was very patient in answering all my questions. She is best. Go see her. You will not be disappointed. By the way, her assistant, Sarah, is equally incredible. They are an awesome team. read more

I can see much better - and in style! I used to get my progressive lenses from a big retailer. I never got used to them and my eyes felt strained. I decided to try a local doctor to see if I got better results. Dr. Hong is an outstanding doctor! She took the time to explain what my eyes were doing and answered all of my questions. She is a true professional and very kind. When it came time to find a new frame, something I always find arduous, Sarah came up with some great options for me and found the perfect frame very quickly - very comfortable and very stylish. After several weeks of wearing my new glasses I am thrilled I found Dr. Hong and Sarah at Modern Eyes. They are my go-to for all eyewear! I can see much better than I could with my old glasses. read more

Modern Eyes Optometry is the best Optometry office on the Monterey peninsula. The office is always bright and clean and has top tier eye glass frames anywhere. Dr.Hong has been our primary Optometrist for my family of five for the past seven years. She is very knowledgeable and thorough in her eye exams, and she always takes the time to explain any concerns that might come up in our exams. Her patience and professionalism is always appreciated. Recently Dr. Hong also handled a situation where an order for my glasses were back ordered much longer than anticipated. Dr. Hong took it upon herself to contact the lab and find out why there was such a long delay on receiving the glasses and identify when the glasses would actually be delivered to her office. Between Dr. Hong and her wonderful assistant Sarah Modern Eyes is the only Optometry office that we will continue to see year after year. read more

Dr Hong is amazing! She's sweet, smart and competent. Asisstant Olivia is also very polite and professional. Service was fast and easy. Everything was done in less than 1 hr. Had my first eye exam in over a decade and enjoyed the whole experience. I usually have some anxiety for any medical appointment but Dr. Hong and Sarah helped me feel comfortable by talking me through the process and helped me understand my eye health. I was able to order my first pair of glasses as well as sunglasses and they let me take my time as I tried on a bunch of the styles they had in office. Dr. Hong is so nice and personable. Her exam is thorough and her depth of knowledge is amazing and so helpful in seeing if anything else outside of just eye-related matters is going on, with recommendations of what other type of follow up may be needed. Her offices are immaculate and well organized. Sarah, her assistant, is top notch, knowledgeable, nice, and very approachable with any matter (as is Dr. Hong). And, if you have problems with figuring out what frames look good on you, they both are very helpful in guiding you to a decision. They have a nice choice of fashionable frames. Dr.Hong is my hero. She saved the day when I was in a tough situation. I'm a painting contractor, got something stuck in my eye recently, and was unable to continue working. After calling many other eye doctors that wouldn't see me without an appointment, Dr.Hong fit me into her busy schedule within an hour. In less than 15 minutes upon my arrival to her office, Dr.Hong gently yet effectively removed a large piece of debris from my eye that I wouldn't have been able to extract myself. Dr.Hong's office followed up the next day to make sure I was healing properly. She is very kind, generous, compassionate, and professional. I'm ever grateful to the Modern Eyes Team. Thank you and keep up the great work! read more
