Please take my advice and never purchase a major appliance at this store. My wife and I bought a refrigerator and requested the door be reversed, we were told by the sales person that it was 5:01pm and they closed at five so we would have to call ourselves. Long story short after 2 hours on the phone the fridge was delivered with the door hinged wrong. Tried to call store manager, he would not return messages. Went to the store and was told by Debbie the assistant Dept. Manager that maybe it would be best if I just cancelled my order and went to Best Buy. Wonderful customer service. read more

It's generally fairly messy here during the weekends and I understand that most of it it's caused by customers who don't have the decency to grab things and put them back in the right spot but also is a system of employees not even acknowledging customers or attempting to help them. Went there over the holiday weekend to find that some dressing rooms were closed and very few registers were open. Then when you're done helping yourself grab sizes and try things on you find the one register section that is open because the rest are unmanned and there is a very long line. The two employees working on register are both facing the same direction and that is away from where the customers are linking up. It's as if you don't see the massive line it doesn't really exist. I would venture to say this is a result of poor management ...any good manager would have one cashier on either side so that back up can be called when the line gets long, customers are serviced quicker (it may actually get me to consider opening a JCP card if I was going to come back)! I only go cause my friends mom likes to shop here and even she leaves feeling nauseous. No customer service, messy disorganized store, hard working staff doing all they can to keep up and people wonder why stores are going out or business. read more

Poor Customer Service, poor online ordering process, disorderly and understaffed store.... So when jcpenney gave all those coupons to everyone that was great BUT they only open up two registers one up stairs and one downstairs, there is so many people in line I mean what happened to 3"s a crowd. Anyway I went to the jewelry section cuz I see someone else there. She rang up that lady and next was my turn. Well the lady behind the counter was nice enough to ring me up. Slowwwwwwww moving lines. Store so packed full of merchandise they just have piles and roadblocks everywhere. I've had clothes from here wear out on the first day. Weird and unfriendly coupon system. I've been completely ignored at the jewelery counter twice (Macy's got the business instead, and I learned not to bother). They no longer offer scanners and yet have so many "sales" and such a confusing mess going on, you really don't know what something will cost you till you've waited through the line and ask. The only reason they get 2 stars is for some of the clothes they have. Whoever the buyers are for Jcp, they do a decent enough job stylistically. read more

I recently purchased a new home and needed a new washer and dryer. I saw an advertisement for a sale on JC Penney's appliances and went to their appliance department where I met Chris Kumar, who was one of the most helpful and courteous sales reps I have ever met. I had selected a certain brand, but needed it asap. Chris did not present me with a hard core buy-here attitude. Instead, he listened to my needs and recommended another store that would be able to deliver much sooner. It is difficult to find someone who seeks to assist the customer over trying to make a sale, and I truly appreciated his honesty! While I did not purchase my washer and dryer at JC Penney this time, I will definitely return to that store for future purchases. read more

The wait times in the cashier line have become ridiculous. The last couple of times I've been there the check out lines have been extremely long and they only have one or two people working the cash registers. I've had to wait in line 30 minutes or longer on Saturdays. I watched people put their purchases down and leave. Maybe this company wouldn't be struggling if they invested in staff and actually took care of the paying customer. Don't know if I'll be back for a while. read more

I want to show my extreme appreciation to Satarius and Derek who helped my brother and I in the men's department!! I went in store with my brother to make an exchange for a different colored jacket I purchased for him online. In their system it was showing that they had one left in store and it felt like Derek was determined to find it. They went above and beyond to help us find the exact jacket my brother wanted to make an exchange for. Derek was literally going all around the store to find it. He even checked everything twice! Satarius was a great help in ordering us a new jacket online to be shipped in store and a big help with my brother on suggesting what size he should get. He was very positive and never seemed irritated. He never made us feel like we were in a rush or like he didn't want to help us despite us not being able to find the jacket. I've never wrote a review on anyone but I felt these men needed to be recognized/appreciated for their determination and helpfulness. If there's any other way I could show my appreciation to them I would love to know! They sure made us feel VERY valued!!! read more

Just recently purchased a groupon to have my kids photo done. I called the day prior and set up a photo time. My appointment was exactly on time. There's a cute/clean waiting area with cartoons on (thank goodness) though. The studio was very clean. The photographer was amazing. My kids are 3 and 1 so I usually dread "picture day". She got so many great shots of them together and individually. She was patient and nice! I loved everything about experience. Prices are great.. But the groupon made them that much better. My only complaint was it was hard to choose my purchase photos because I wanted them all. read more

This review is for the optical department. Worst experience ever. They had double booked my appointment time with someone else also, when confronted that I got here first, girl at the front said " well he booked the appt two weeks ago for the same time" OKKAAAYYYY that is not my fault. Don't book two people at same time if you can't handle it and then top of that don't make it sound like it's my fault. Besides this, department is dirty. Dust on top of frame rack, frames not cleaned, lots of fingerprints on every frame. YUCKK! There is more to the story but main thing is Stay away from this place. Try LensCrafters instead, located right next to jcpenny in the mall. I will spread the word regarding my experience here and will not come back. read more

I don't understand why I keep coming back to this store. Customer service desk personnel need to learn the meaning of customer service. I stood in line for almost 15 minutes and three clerks working but one was waiting for another customer and saw me with a return, rather than telling me she waits for me to get to the front to tell me they don't accept returns at the customer service desk and directed me to a different desk to wait in another line. No hospitality or customer service at this store! Stay away! read more

The JCPenney salon in Modesto has lost many wonderful stylist that were very talented and now its left with new stylist not ready for coloring hair or for customer service. My niece went to get her hair done with an experienced hair dresser and instead they lost her appointment and she had to go with a new stylist because her birthday was the next day and she wanted to look nice. The lady was very vulgar discussing personal stories better left outside the workplace. She burned her hair with the straightener while socializing with her fellow associates and instead of dying her hair blonde she died it orange. The salon manager was no help what so ever. They redyed her hair yet she paid over $100 for them to dye damage and redye her hair to what it was before. A waste of your time and money and a very risky chance when involving your hair. They have permanently lost our business. read more

Horrible, horrible customer service. Waited in line for 30 min. Asked an employee within the first 5min, who was pregnant and petite(unfortunately i dont know her name, she didnt have a nametag or anything) if i was going to be able to pay for my mothers credit card account, her immediate response was "you still have to wait in line." Then i said, im just asking because i dont want to wait in line for nothing. Whats with the attitude. If i was in her position, i wouldve informed the customer of the proper protocol to make such a payment on the behalf of someone else. She just said, "yes you should be able too". In my head i was thinking i asked her for that purpose, to clarify and inform me with the right information. Finallly, my turn comes, and the cashier tells me that i need the card or the billing statement. I was so irritated with that untrained employee who didnt take the time to inform me on the proper protocol to make a payment on behalf of someone else. The cashier was real nice and proffessional, but that other untrained incompetent employee really irritated me. Waste of time. read more

My fiancé purchased a ring with a lifetime warranty on it. Long story short, the ring breaks. So naturally we bring it in because again it has a lifetime warranty. We wait for over a month and it wasn't fixed. Gina, the manager, said that it couldn't get fixed but she could make a one time exception to fix it. Or even buy the ring back but I would not have that. Well it was fine for a good three months until it broke again. We sent it off again and they said they can't fix. JCP said that it wasn't fixable. Gina once again told me that she could not fix it because it was a one time thing. She told me I would have to pay out of pocket for it. Funny thing was it was at SEARS, not JCP. It was terrible service on the jewelry department. I wouldn't even acknowledge that JCP is there. I would turn the other way and head over to another store that is willing to listen to their customers. Btw Sears helped me out so much! So kudos to them! Also, never purchasing from there again! JCP, you just lost a lifetime customer over something so simple! read more
