Came into the store yesterday (7-24-2026) looking for one item, but found another one that I needed. The Matteson JCP rarely disappoints. I do not consider myself a frequent shopper but it works for me. I was at the store at off-peak timing, 4 p.m. on a Thursday. They are hiring a hairdresser for the salon should anyone be looking for one. Lots of sales but the item that I chose was not eligible for a discount, which is posted on the JCP webpage (Champion fitness wear). Not many shoes but this has been true for some time. Very nice sales associate at the check out location, other associates around the store. They are bilingual. Give it a try. read more

This store is ridiculous from the salon to shopping in the store! You place an order to be picked up and always cancel out! Then there goes the salon! The stylist scheduled me and left me hanging! No apology, no Hi, no nothing not even acknowledged! Last time going to salon. I was a faithful customer, not anymore! Bad customer service in store and salon! read more

I do consider myself a shopper and everyone have places that they like above others. JC Penny is a go-to for me and my mom. This location in particular, is always nice because it's usually not packed. I like the soft atmosphere since I'm used to more chaotic shopping experiences. I never had an issue with finding anything I was looking for, but the few times that I needed help I was greeted with smiles. They have changed the outline like any other space, but I never had an issue with re-adjusting. I had a very great experience with the Sephora one night when I wanted to get my makeup done for a special occasion. I love PCPenney and this one in particular is usually kept pretty nice and clean. I literally just had to walk out though because the customer service was so appalling. Literally the only pro of this JCPenney is it's tidy and well kept appearances. Of all the times I have came here though, they NEVER have enough cashiers!! Plan to wait in line for at least 10 minutes. It doesn't matter what time or what day you come here they WILL NOT HAVE ENOUGH CASHIERS ON DUTY AND YOU *WILL* WAIT IN AN OBNOXIOUS LINE MOVING AT A SNAILS PACE. Now my experience today? I walked into the Sephora part of this department store. Only one woman working the whole thing. I inquire where an item is and she points me in the direction and that was the extent of her "help." I go to the product shelf and one of the items I was looking for was not displayed where it would have been if they had any for sale, so I bend over to look in the drawer beneath to see if they had any left over. Said employee quickly runs over and tells me I cannot be looking in there and that she was busy with a makeover so she'd be with me shortly. Like really? Instead of just taking ten seconds to look in that drawer that I already had open to see if they had the product she slams it shut and rushes back over to continue with whatever makeover she's doing. I wait for over ten minutes and she never comes to help me. No consideration towards me at all. Whatever, so I start looking at other products and a few minutes after I see her patiently helping another guest (it did not seem as though she was still doing the makeover she was so busy with so I assumed she was free after her convo ended with this other guest). So again, I ask her if they had these new items I was looking at in stock and am told the same story "how she's the only one working and busy with a makeover but will call for someone to assist me." What the...? She was literally just helping someone! At this point I felt she was just being rude to me for whatever reason and didn't want to assist me. To her credit though, I did see her on the phone calling for help... however, ten more minutes approximately go by and nobody ever came to help!! So again I am just sitting there twenty minutes wasted still waiting to be helped. Finally she gets done with this ever so important makeover she was doing and I kindly walk up to her to inquire if anybody is on their way still or yet (I know I sound like a nag, but seriously lady...) and she tells me "well they should be but maybe they got busy." Wow. Nice. I ask her for help ONCE MORE and she says she is now helping somebody new and will be with me after. No offense but she already knew I was waiting for help, why would she take somebody else first?!!! Very rude!!! Whatever. I wait around even more and finally she strolls over some minutes later. I inquire about two different products that were on the shelves that I wanted to buy and she looks and tells me they're out. So to sum up my review? The Sephora inside this JCPenney's SUCKS. Wasted a half hour of my time with staff refusing to help me and ultimately not even having the desired products I wanted to begin with. They don't keep up well with their inventory and everything is always sold out. WASTE OF TIME!!! Don't go here looking for anything that's popular or up to date makeup wise, Sephora can't keep up with demand apparently. Regarding JcPenney's itself too: HIRE MORE CASHIERS AND QUIT BEING SO UNDERSTAFFED!!!! They just lost several hundred dollars from me. Guess I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

**portrait studio review** My mom purchased a Groupon to get some family photos done while my brother was in town. I am pretty biased against portrait studios, since a lot of the photos can seem subpar. So I came in not expecting much, but I'm really pleased with how they turned out and I'm glad that they proved me wrong. The groupon included a 15-minute photoshoot, a CD with 3 photos, 2 sheets of printed pics and a 30% discount on any purchased prints. The photographer we had was amazing. My sister has a disability and can be hard to work with, but she was really patient with her. The pictures she took of us really captured our family to a T. She even had us do different poses and then did just the kids, then ones with my mom, etc. My brother was curious if they would kick us out at the 15 minute mark, so he timed it. It was 16 minutes, so they really do stick to the 15 minute thing if you have a Groupon. The proofs were ready within 10 minutes. Then they let you take over the computer and decide what you want. We picked the 3 best photos to put on the CD, so we can get those printed whenever we want. (They give you full rights which is awesome) Then my mom picked the two sheets she wanted, while my brother and I ordered a few extra sheets. After the discount it was $7 per sheet for regular photos, $10 for "enhanced" photos then $18 for collage photos. My brother and I paid about $40 total for our selected photos. The prices per sheet (with the 30% discount) were actually a lot more reasonable than I had expected. If you include the pictures we printed + the Groupon, we spent about $70. I'm very happy with our family portraits and I feel that we got a great deal. I'm really thankful to our photographer and Groupon for giving us a chance to get some new family pics. read more

An exceptional store in Matteson, which is becoming rare these days. The store is clean, well stocked and there are usually enough cashiers. Employees have always been friendly towards me. Bathrooms are clean, parking lot is well lit. I like their selection of mens clothes though the mens shoes could use some more variety. The sales they run here are pretty nice with frequent sales and extra % off coupons. If I'm shopping Penney's, I'm shopping here versus fighting the crowds in Orland. Downside is that a lot of businesses have left Matteson so your shopping choices are quite limited if you're coming to this Penney's. read more

I shopped here before Christmas and I am surprised at the selection and service. The ladies clothing section has very pretty, feminine clothing. Very well stocked and a lot of associates ready to help you. Also, has a nice baby/children's section with many sizes of clothing available. Are you on a budget and have small children? I don't get all of the negative reviews. Customer service is a big issue with me and the service at this store has always been excellent.

Went for Nike sandals, they said they had in stock on the app when I got there there was only about 3 pairs of sandals and they were size 8 , and there was single pairs of sandals laying all around , they were un organized and boxes had the parts that said the size of them ripped off, only reason I don't rate this one star is because some of the staff is nice and I like the franchise. read more

Horrible, horrible customer service. I just left this store after waiting and asking 15 minutes for assistance. I aproached a sales associate walking the aisle and asked for assistance in the women's underwear department and she nonchalantly let me know she works the jewelry department. She said go to the shoe department because someone else was seeking help in the same department and she thinks the associate is in the shoe department. She made no effort to call for assistance. I went to the shoe department and, of course, no one is there. I go to the front and ask the cashier if she could page someone. She points to the jewelry department and tells me to go stand there by the cash register while she pages someone from the jewelry department to help me in the women's underwear department? Could it be the same girl that told me she doesn't work that department? Well I guess I will never know because aftera few minutes waiting no one showed up. I guess that aren't concerned about making a sale. I won't be coming back to that store again ever. And it was not crowded nor was there a line at the registers. read more
