Southern Maine Windows and Siding - Top mitered corner not secured by nailing. Wind blew it off.

    Southern Maine Windows and Siding

BUYER BEWARE!! SHODDY WORK, NOT TRUSTWORTHY,!!! We…read morecontracted with Southern Maine Windows and Siding to install new Marvin windows and Certainteed Cedar Impressions vinyl siding on our Wakefield, NH home. We selected them since they were listed on the Harvey Building Products web site as being Certainteed Certified (they are no longer listed as such). They installed the windows without any sheathing under the nailing flange of the windows so the windows were inset into the wall. The exterior trim which they were supposed to install could not be put on, so they had to redo the windows. Then they did not use enough clips to hold on the trim so the owner had to remove all the trim and install the right number of clips. The siding went up over existing house wrap which they were supposed to replace. Patrick insisted that they were putting up new house wrap but when confronted with photos admitted that his crew was lying to him. They did a poor job of lining adjacent sides so that the mitered corners did not fit properly. They neglected to use starter strips on corners so there is nothing holding the bottoms in. They did not nail the top corners so the wind can blow them off. (See photos) The siding on one side slopes down 1" so that the corners could not go on so they fudged the siding on the adjacent side (which was previously installed) by dropping the course over the slider by 1" in 18" ( See photo). We did not notice this until the following Spring at which time Patrick said by text that he would take care of fixing it only to ignore us. So here we are, look at the great siding photos on a job that cost over $10,000.

Was lied to from the beginning and now…read moreafter a job that would take a "few weeks" that is still not finished after 4 months, I'm stuck with having to find someone else to finish the job. He now refuses to refund the money I paid to him to order a door, plus he owes a money to a local Marine veteran who he hired to haul away waste. Avoid this con artist at all cost.

I paid them for a job in April 2021. The owner's daughter has a very sweet and professional…read moredemeanor. And she has promised numerous times to get the job done. She sounds most sincere. However we are now in November 2022 and there has been absolutely no attempt to complete the portion of the job that remains undone. I drove to their office which is a warehouse with closed garage doors and a very large lock bolted to the entry door.

Dealing with the owner directly, Extremely poor communication. He was suppose to show up multiple…read moretimes and never did.... No call or text indicating he wasn't coming... But was quick to cash the deposit... Requested copy of contract emailed to me, and took 2 weeks to send paperwork... Noticed an omission in contract and he took another 3 weeks to send corrected contract, all the while said he would start the job and then never follow thru... Had to threaten we were going to contact a lawyer if no contract was forwarded. When they finally showed up, 9 weeks later, he had sub contracted the job to another party... I stopped to check progress and I was asked by the sub contractor for payment for previous jobs... Indicating the 3rd party didn't even know who he was working for... Never got any warranty paperwork... This was the second time I used them (shame on me but was hoping first time was a fluke). First time I used them, Bid the job in July and I indicated that needed work was urgent as I had an active leak, Staining on ceiling. I was assured they would be there in a timely manner ( most likely early September) When it came time for the work date they delayed 7 weeks... By then roof leak caused full failure of ceiling sheet rock.. causing me additional cost. Owner agreed to lessen $1000 but was still a major hassle. His saleman Curtis, is a salesman of broken promises... They could have at least sent a crew to replace the area of leak, a dormer, (as Curtis said they would) and then returned for main roof... Job sites were left a mess, nails in driveway (resulting in two flat tires) , workers left beverage cups, snack wraps and trash blowing around property. Despite having a construction trailer on site, they filled my trash barrels with construction waste... NO PRIDE.

Maine ProRoofing - This is a siding job we finished. The siding is plygem in the color acorn. And install burnish slate metal fascia around the whole building

Mike Fox from Maine Proofing came out, walked on the roof, saw the existing patchwork and leaky vents that had been caulked some time ago. He agreed that there was enough slope for a metal roof. I chose a dark blue, standing (hidden) seam. I learned that the roofing was supplied by Maine Amish. I was happy to buy from a local source. Once the dumpster arrived, he and the crew got the job done in three days. The sheathing was intact and did not need replaced. I decided to have the shingles removed, and that was done. He and the crew installed new boots for the vent and caulked them--one of the old ones had a large hornet's inside! They installed a high temp ice and water shield over the whole roof. This was covered by a snap lock standing seam metal roof, 19 gauge, I think. They installed rake trim along the rakes and the gable ends complete with starter J channel, and Z closures at the cap installation, and used Geosill and butylene sealing tape where needed. The debris was cleaned up, at least 99%. I'm happy. I did not get the chance to borrow their ladder to take pics, but my stepson went up and confirmed that it was well done. Thank you, Mike and crew!
