Two other floor people whined about the engineered wood and the prefinished hardwood and how much they didn't like working with it, and Juan was like, "Ok, yeah, let's fix it up for you!" He spent time with me to figure out the color, made adjustments in the plan when we realized the risers couldn't be salvaged, and was just fabulous to work with. I've already recommended him to a friend and will have him restore my grandmother's cedar chest. One floor refinisher was almost 2x Juan's price, and one was 1.5x more, and neither were very nice. Mr. Monteiro estimated the job, reasonable enough, so I hired him. After a month he finally committed to come. Then there was another delay, then he committed to "Thursday". Because the room is the kitchen, we had to move EVERYTHING out the day before, even the fridge and stove, and "camp" out in the dining room with a hot plate and cooler. After several additional delays (the result of alleged wrecked trucks, malfunctioning equipment and "other jobs") we're still waiting for urethane to dry 10 days later! Though the finished product looks nice, it's not the color we decided on, and there's fine dust everywhere in the house! Blocking off other rooms was only haphazardly attended to. I'm just relieved that this aggravating ordeal is - sort of- over, and look forward to eating something other than canned ravioli and weenies in two more days.
