Then, the next week, they delivered a roof that's still shedding nails to this day. No gutters, no pergola, and no attempt on their end to reschedule or coordinate delivery since. I have spent the intervening time trying to schedule appointments, usually with no response for weeks or months. I have been unable to reach anyone on their phones, and I have not heard from a project manager this calendar year. Look elsewhere, and never cut the full check before delivery. Wish I'd thought it through.

Absolutely amazing experience with CKN Homes! I can't say…read moreenough good things about CKN and Nick, the guy running the show. Along with Glenn, one of the gentlemen that helps manage job sites. From the very beginning, they made the entire building process smooth, stress-free, and even enjoyable (which is not something most people say about construction projects!) Nick is one of those rare people who actually cares about his work and his clients. He's hands-on, super knowledgeable, and always makes time to answer questions or talk through ideas. You never feel like just another customer with him. He truly wants you to love the home he's building for you. The craftsmanship from his team has been top-notch. Every little detail was done with care, and you can tell they take pride in their work. One of the contractors he used stained the flooring and Nick covered the expense at getting it fixed so it wouldn't be an issue since the contractor refused. He also trimmed my neighbors trees for him by request of the neighbor and paid for it out of pocket. Which was really surprising. Plus, Nick and Glenn kept everything on track and within budget, which is huge. No unexpected surprises, no cutting corners.. just quality work done right. If you're looking for a builder who's honest, reliable, and actually listens, Nick and CKN Homes are the way to go. I'd recommend them a hundred times over and will be using them for the remodel we are planning to start next year too. I shopped around quite a lot and I'm so happy I chose them.

CKN is a local Austin home builder that claims the following on its website: "Exceptional service…read morebefore, during, and after, with an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction." That is far from the case. While my one-year-old home seems well-built, CKN hires horrible contractors for many trades. Their landscaper is the stereotypical "jack-of-all-trades, master of none." The best example of this is the poor paver installation around the pool. He failed to use proper base material and polymeric sand, which resulted in the pavers sinking after six months. Less than five months later, sunken pavers became a tripping hazard, and CKN refused to fix them under the one-year warranty. Furthermore, the house was not ready on the day I closed, so CKN had to get their landscaper to address a massive stain on the patio caused by storing equipment after I moved. Two attempts to apply a skim coat failed as the coating started chipping. The process of trying to fix that was a joke, as the landscaper was sloppy. He failed to protect adjoining areas while applying the skim coat and got the product on the pavers. When replacing stained pavers, he got sand in the pool. Here are more examples: The carport has a poor quality epoxy that showed wear after a few months, and stains are permanent. From my previous experience, high-quality epoxy and application processes repel such stains and help retain their sheen. The fence painters were sloppy and got paint on the foundation and the carport walls. The fence frame rusted after several months, and they had to repaint it. After I moved in, I realized they cut corners and did not install linen cabinets in two bathrooms. They also left one landscape bed void of shrubs, which meant the pool was open to the street and pedestrian traffic viewing. They did a poor job of trimming the trees, claiming city canopy trimming restrictions that were misleading. I had to pay $1,000 for tree trimming after I moved. I do not recommend CKN Capital Group, LLC.

In all sincerity, I hate leaving bad reviews for companies. My preference is to fix issues ahead of…read moretime. In this case, I've tried but haven't been able to get anywhere. Based on a realtor's referral, I chose to use Allies to renovate my upstairs bathroom. This was the second contractor I attempted to use for the renovation, as the first company turned out to be a bit of a scam (I have supporting emails and reviews from their "victims"). The first contractor completely demoed the bathroom, and I already had all the materials (tile, mirror, paint, etc.) that were needed to complete the renovation. Allies said they'd take over the job and get it all done within a few weeks, which was a relief after my experience so far. My contractor was Chris. He had great reviews for roofing work, which makes sense considering that not much communication is needed between the contractor and client. I didn't learn until much later that this was Chris's first indoor renovation and client-facing job. Chris told me his least favorite thing about a job is "talking to clients." He also told me that sometimes clients have to beta-test the subcontractors they use. So, this kind of sets the scene for my experience. When remodeling a bathroom, a lot of communication is needed, especially when Allies subcontracts most of the work. My wife and I were generally happy with how the work was going in the beginning, but then Chris started acting strange and pushing back or trying to charge us for minor changes or unexpected work that came up as the job progressed. Things continued to become strained between Chris, my wife, and me to the point that we got into more than one argument or tense exchange about what was covered in the contract versus what work would be an extra charge. When the tile work for the shower started, the subcontractor added a metal trim that we hadn't asked for. Chris said the trim was standard for tile jobs, but it was not covered in the contract, so we'd have to pay extra for it. When we pushed back, he wrote a list of all the "extra" work that he hadn't charged us for, and made my wife negotiate with him on who would cover what. Toward the end of the project, we gave Chris a list of items that needed to be done to complete the renovation, essentially a "punch list" of small fixes that is normal to provide to a contractor before they finalize the job. Chris started arguing with us about reinstalling a towel holder that had been removed at the beginning of the job. He also yelled at us about all the work we were trying to have him do that wasn't covered by the contract. I was so upset that I left in the middle of the argument, so things didn't escalate between us. My poor wife stayed with him and was able to "calm him down." Although he attempted to apologize to me, I was so fed up with his behavior by then that I told him in not-so-nice terms that I was done speaking to him and that my wife would be his point of contact to finish the job. Chris's partner, Steven, ended up calling me about the situation. During the job, Steven had made it seem like their company was on the client's side and would do the right thing. During the phone call, he informed me that Chris was upset because he had underbid our bathroom renovation and had since been trying to make up for it in additional charges for work that wasn't explicitly in the contract. Keep in mind, we were paying a very large sum of money for the renovation, but Stephen told me that he would have charged much more and that, because the work they do is high quality, they generally charge more than other companies. Steven ended the call by telling me to "never speak to his employee like that again." This is after his employee, Chris, had yelled and been antagonistic to my wife and me that day and throughout the job. We had very minimal contact with Chris after the argument because of how upset we were at that point. Chris seemed happy to be finished with the job and didn't attempt to do much of a walk-through to review any issues with the work. Instead of cutting the tile properly, they tried to mask it by putting a ton of caulk, but you can see jagged edges where the caulk doesn't completely cover it. They also left nails sticking out of the side of my house due to an in-wall medicine cabinet they installed (my siding is also falling off). Their carpentry is also garbage. They installed a "slow-close drawer" in my vanity that requires a hard push and then a shove to close it. The pocket door they installed doesn't close all the way and slowly slides open on its own. I contacted Stephen several months later to try to resolve these issues. He admitted to me that they fired the guy who did my tile, but fixing it is not covered under a "workmanship warranty," which, per our contract, Allies offers for one year after the job is complete. If you Google "workmanship warranty," it is supposed to cover poor workmanship, like my tile. Stephen refuses to fix it

Allies Roofing and Construction they were in our neighborhood, passing out flyers for their…read morebusiness. I Told them I can use a new roof on my patio cover. Their rep was Luke and when he got upon our roof to look at the patio cover he and his boss noticed that our homes roof had hail damage. They took pictures of the damage and I was able to to contact my insurance to do a claim to repair the damage. StateFarm sent out an Adjuster to evaluate the damage, Luke and a couple of Allies workers were there when the Adjuster was doing his evaluations. After a few days I received a confirmation from State Farm that the roof was approved for all the repairs. A week later I received a payment for Allies to order materials to start the work. Due to rain and weather the start was delayed until it was clear to do the roof. They showed up with a crew to remove the old shingles, repaired some holes they were ready to install the new shingles. They also got approval to replace the patio cover roof panels also. Allies were fast, efficient and did great work. The roof and patio cover completed. Last night we had a Rain Storm with high winds. When we came out to survey any damage we noticed our patio was dry. Very happy with their work. Would recommend them highly as their whole team from their office to work crew. Allies did excellent work including great communication throughout the whole project.
