I'm the type who tries to regularly maintain my car. Safety is a huge concern for me. Getting stuck on a dangerous stretch of interstate or a bad neighborhood isn't my cup of tea. I also cringe whenever I hear the cost of any repair estimate but, hey, I know what's important to me. Auto repair shops, especially those in dealerships, make me quite leery. One time a dealership recommended I have my '94 Honda Accord engine flushed out at 60k miles. WTF! That particular car was a highway commuter back in the day when there was very little stop and go traffic on the Beltway. That's when I said goodbye to dealerships.
A few years ago a business colleague highly recommended JB Auto Repair. He has had many classic & current cars serviced at JB & touted that the shop was very fair, conscientious and thorough. I used them off and on for the recommended oil changes and occasional repairs (like when my digital display for the clock/cabin temp thingy died) but didn't truly realize until 2 weeks ago how good they were until the latest service on my '03 Honda Accord. (Yep, I love Hondas!) Let's put it this way. Back in the Summer of '14, I had a major service done by my boyfriend's trusted mechanic. Got all new hoses, water pump, timing chain, breaks, rotors, A/C recharged, spark plugs, fluids, etc, etc, etc. I was told the car was as good as new. To me the car seemed okay but not exactly, especially since it still had an intermittent weird noise only when I started it up in the AM. I just chalked it up to it being 11 yrs old with 155k miles on it. Getting a nice discount was helpful. Last summer, one year after that big service, I noticed some weird things going on with the breaks, plus it would make that weird noise but now it was a daily loud morning noise. My car just wasn't its ol' self! I finally bit the bullet, got a rental car then dropped my car off at JB to be really fixed. I wanted my car to be truly repaired and not rushed over so I knew it would have to have a multi-day sleepover at JB. Choosing JB and getting the rental were the smartest choices in getting what I wanted.
JB called and said my car was finally ready. I was more than elated when he said I probably wouldn't need another major service for another 100k miles, which would make the car about 20 years old. To me the car drives like a dream, just like it did when I bought her new! No lie. All the noises are gone. The gas mileage has gone back up. Everything works. And the breaks? Perfect. They said a screw was missing on one of the calipers so that was the most probable culprit for my "weird" brakes. I had to basically get another break job when it was all finished because of other issues they had found. I had a ton of other major work done so it was costly. But, guess what. JB gave me a nice little discount that was completely unexpected. They worked hard but were completely thorough in their service. Now I want to slap myself in the forehead just because I should have taken my car there back in the Summer of '14. That's what I get for listening to my now ex-boyfriend! LOL
This may be a long-winded review that may not help you. I'm a small business owner, having open my business in '98. I know what it takes in having knowledgeable staff, good customer service, taking care of people, getting the job done right, communicating effectively. JB Auto Repair rates high in all of these traits. I have never felt like I'm being "sold". If JB Auto Repair were in my field of business I would be proud to have them as a colleague and would easily admire their work. And, yes, I would recommend people to go see them! read more
