Only me and one other student showed up, and the place smelled like a sweat-fest (those ballerinas before us must have been workin' it). Teacher was casual, a very talented choreographer, and hungry because she kept going to the side of the studio to eat her dinner in between instructions. I didn't sweat (again, I think my body was tricked by the studio's aroma into thinking it wasn't necessary) but I did feel challenged by the routine. Only about 1/3 of the class time was dedicated to dancing; the rest was warm up moves, funkywalking across the floor, stretching, and ab exercises. The music choices were contemporary which was a plus. I would have liked to learn a longer routine than three counts of 8, but its all good.

We came into Supershag to get help with our first dance for our wedding. We were very clear about…read morewhat we were looking for - some simple and fun wanted simple choreography. We were promised curated lessons but the instructor gave us a very cookie cutter routine that didn't fit our music at all. When we arrived for our second lesson, he didn't have any recollection of our song, nor what he taught us the week before so we ended up spending another $113 on a lesson where we learned nothing new. Our instructor was very nice but it was very apparent that we were not a priority and were getting "one-size-fits-all" lesson even though it didn't suit us work with us or the song. If you're not interested in formal lessons I would recommend going somewhere else! Before starting, we purchased a 5 lesson package, discontinued after 2, and weren't even refunded half of what we paid - even though we didn't take the remaining three lessons which I think is really unfair.

However, it appears that the studio is still run and owned by Robin. I have the most amazing memories from my time at WCDA, and for that I'm extremely grateful. I remember that the instructors were so kind, the studio itself was beautiful and in a great location, and the recitals were organized and well-produced. I praise WCDA for instilling a sense of positive self-esteem in their students and providing such a sacred space for creative self-expression. I'll never forget the pure joy and excitement I felt on the day prior to our recitals that they hung up the photos of our dance recital costumes we'd be wearing. So many sequins!

And the atmosphere in general is exactly what any parent should look for in a dance studio for their children.

While we were learning basic steps, standing in lines, they had us rotate so that everyone got a chance to be in front. They also had us rotate when we were partner dancing. I liked getting to dance with lots of different people, and it was nice not to have to worry about being a wallflower! The teachers are great, too. Very upbeat and good at explaining things. Yay! I would actually like to come back for more classes, but I do find the website a little confusing. I found it hard to tell exactly how to pay and when the classes started. I could be just being thick.

(If you want to tap dance to I'm a little teapot, go somewhere else.). The classes are mixed level, yet due to the smaller size, there is still quite a bit of individual instruction. The dancers support each other and value individual strengths.
