The place to be on a Tuesday night! The music is always incredible and so soulful, and the crowd is a blast. I always find myself dancing and singing the night away with new friends. Not to mention the views and the interior are stunning!

    Is there an age limit?

There is an age minimum because of the bar. No age limit at all for jazz lovers. Mostly a mix of 20s and 30s plus some 40s and up. All good and all vibing with the scene.

We were sat and quickly helped by our server. Every thing we ordered was top tier, the drink was strong and the food was delish, my Hubs especially liked his Japanese Chicken. We watched Wizard of Oz, and it was beautiful on a big screen. The show comes with a short chat with a film critic, his words were very insightful and added to our appreciation of the film. I've already planned my trip for the next movie.

Now in 2023 performing La Cage, Drag Show, very loosely referring to the movie La Cage aux Folles. Announce yourself to the reception. Pass through a bookcase disguised door like at the Magic Castle and enter a crimson velvet tinged world of Cabaret.  Comfortable sofas for the big ballers while the rest of us are relegated to tall bar stools with no back. Don't get too toasted & sloshed or you could fall back backwards.  3 man band starts playing stalwarts of the American Song Book about 15 minutes before show time at 7pm. The doors open at 6pm. The 2nd show starts at 9pm.  You can order a short list of bar food, and there is a full bar, but obviously no loud blender to disrupt the show which runs around 90 minutes. So it is possible to dine before or after at French influenced Shirley where you get a 15% discount showing your La Cage tickets.  Then doing a post prandial libation at the Lounge or an alcohol based Milk Shake at 25° to make it a full evening at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Drag is a venerable art form. In Shakespeare's time, the Globe Theatre had only male actors so Drag was de rigueur as well as the ancient Japanese Kabuki Theatre which is still all male to this day.  Host Tommi Rose, 47 year Drag veteran originally from the La Cage aux Folles Night Club in the 1980's as well as at famous Finocchio's in San Francisco during the 1970's, does a flurry of 13 costume changes ending with a silver beaded dress weighing 28 lbs.  A Marilyn Monroe, who is a dead ringer to the original, performs flawlessly channeling her inner Monroe. Lady Gaga makes an appearance lip synching to songs when she sang with Tony Bennett. The in between acts had a "Cabaret" Berlinesque feel that Liza Minelli would have been pleased.  The Torch Song finale was a rousing, feel good rendition of "I Am What I Am" from the song originally introduced in the Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles.  It was a poignant song that makes no apology nor excuse for who we are. And that is the way it should be.  Enjoy the Drag!!!  PS Get rid of the annoying two pillars blocking the view of the stage.

We went on the last night of this season which turned out great as it wasn't crazy busy and the tshirts were cheap! I had read some things that people were disappointed this year and that the experience was shorter and different from years previous but as I've never been I had nothing to reference so I enjoyed myself a lot. I don't want to go into too many details as to ruin the fun but there were some scares (nothing over the top), and it wasn't super crowded. And it was fun interacting with various characters and being in a small group. I really liked the behind the scenes tour that we got afterward, as the gentlemen who took us around was really knowledgable about the show and it was pretty neat to go behind the scenes and witness other people experiencing the show...we got a non-scary behind the curtain point of view. My hub and kid still enjoyed the experience even though it was different from years past. The gentleman explained that each location has its own set of complexities and things they do at one location might not be able to be done at another. Seemed on point to me. Looking forward to going with them again next year. It was really fun to be part of the show with my family. I really liked that they had a "hold your arm up policy" for the scaredy-cats like me. I went in knowing that I could hold my arm up and protect myself from the scary if it got too bad!! This experience is pricy for sure but I felt the set up and experience itself was on par with the cost. Someone has to pay all the actors and the rent. I liked going on the last day as it wasn't super crowded and we were able to enjoy everything. The VIP package was worth it for the behind the scenes tour. We could have also sat at VIP only places to have drinks but we had our kid with us so it wasn't that kind of night.

The VIP room was pretty empty as well. And you're not allowed to bring outside food or drink. Some shirts and hoodies for sale but pretty lackluster overall. Many people complained about the plot, but I went in with no expectations and had a good time. If you reframe it as you somehow fell into hell and need to escape, then you'll have a great time. Don't think too deeply. The actors, ambiance, decorations and room setups were well done. The ice room could've been colder with some dry ice. I do think it's pretty steep for a 35 minute escape maze and the behind the scenes was cool but short. The whole experience took us an hour, including bathroom breaks. I recommend going early because it seemed like the actors don't get a lot of breaks so I'm glad I got to see their more passionate acting when they're not tired yet. I think it's good to try once as a beginner but definitely more excited to try other productions like Willow.

A neat experience but somewhat pricy considering all the extra fees/add ons and also tips and drinks were not included- the $200 food package does come with drinks (not even soft drinks). In addition, there was a service fee for each package that you purchase as well. Parking is a block away and no valet - plan ahead. We thought the food was just OK. Every dish was cold which we thought was odd. We had a birthday in our party and I even emailed them asking to see if they could put a candle on the dessert - they said no but they will be doing something special. I also noticed others who celebrated birthdays had happy birthday written next to their name - that was not the case in our party. On top of that, at the end of the night they gave us a bill for a meal that we prepaid in full. I'll review them separately. Brown Betties: When was the last time you saw an amazing burlesque show?? If you haven't seen the Brown Betties, you are in for a TREAT!! The writing, acting, singing, and dancing were spectacular! I loved the show because their talent held the audience's attention while capturing many of the experiences men and women have in relationships, and giving fair attention to both. My friend and I left raving about the show, and telling our friends not to miss out when they have another chance to attend! My only advice is that I would get the dinner/seat reservations in advance if they are available...the food was excellent, and the show is even more enjoyable with a seat!! I would definitely attend again in the future, and hope new shows are offered. These incredibly talented women provide entertainment with a twist in all the right places! BYOB (Be Your Own Betty): The Brown Betties hosted a wonderful private party for my birthday a few days after their show. Having seen their moves on stage, I knew I would not be disappointed! However, my expectations were exceeded! They were professional, reaching out to me before the event to answer questions, help with advertising, and asked for my preferences regarding refreshments (which were amazing!!). On the day of the event, they came early to set everything up, and did a beautiful job transforming our space. The women were very gracious, and my friends quickly felt comfortable with them. They did a spectacular job of leading us through exercises that had a profound impact on how we viewed ourselves as women--my friends are still talking about this experience to this day! They also taught us routines and moves that helped us find our "Inner Betties". Finally, they had a few tricks up their sleeves to make sure we would never forget this day, and that the lessons we learned would help make us better women to ourselves. At the end, I felt that the entire experience was entertaining and personally valuable...reflecting lessons and experiences I wanted to share with my friends...I didn't have to do any of the heavy lifting for my party, and was able to truly enjoy it as a guest! I recommend the BYOB experience for a special birthday, ladies night, bachelorette party, or whatever you have in mind. Gather your friends, then call Brown Betties...these women have it covered!!!

Inside | Elegant decor, moody lighting, and the velvet blue curtain stood front and center, as well as the stage set up with equipment for the musicians and recording artists!! There was a variety of seating areas! Some were right by the stage, others were at wide velvet chairs near the back, including seating at the bar! It's actually a large space, once you step inside! We selected a table right in front of the velvet chairs, which was perfect! Not too close to the stage, not too far, but just right! I would easily select the same seating again! I'm not sure how you grew up but, with us, music was always involved in just about everything. The Good times and the bad times, from childhood to adulthood. That being said, when the Blue Note opened my wife basically went wild. At this point, I have to keep an eye on my calendar, because on any day I'll have a concert to go to. The spot is nice and intimate. With the stage being front and center, there's almost not a bad seat in the house. They offer a full service menu, with cocktails, appetizers and entrees. There's a 20.00 pp minimum for food and/or drinks. We go for the music not the food. I usually order a cocktail and fries. On the latest visit my wife had the Rosè Cenote and I went with the Blackberry Djinn. Pro tips: It's open seating (the host seats you based on how the venue is filling up) and shared tables. So if you want to be front and center you should get there early. The later you show up, the chances of you being a little towards the back is higher. But as mentioned earlier on, the place is small and intimate, so there's not really a bad seat. They also offer bar seating. Keep an eye on their calendar to find your favorite artists on their list.
