We purchased a cabin here in 2022 with intent of moving to another marina. Upon getting to know…read morethe staff AND owner we decided keep cabin here. The change made since we have arrived are INCREDIBLE! Many of the old boats left from previous ownership that were dilapidated have been removed which has made the Marina look sooo much better! The increase of options in the Marina store with merchandise / food has expanded (not to mention the fountain drinks AND adult beverages). The pricing of adult beverages doesn't leave you wishing you had stopped in town, in fact some are cheaper than you can buy at the grocery! And entertainment???? July 4th fireworks last couple years has been pretty awesome! Every other weekend live music has been great (may be one who ended the night in Rocky Top with New York / New York but I don't see him back on the calendar! lol) And if you do have a cabin at Straight Creek and haven't ventured up to the Marina when they have an event, I hope you do! Great group of people are there! Moving on to staff...FIRST, let me say what they do is not contained inside the Marina store and the gas pumps. These employees take care of a heckuva lot more behind the scenes that what anyone cares to think of. Strong winds can come thru and break a line and a cabin gets loose, as a result a water line breaks free (sometimes unknown until cabin / boat owner arrives), oh and let's not forget (we've all been guilty) some forgot to arrange to have their tanks pumped and they call upon arrival wanting an immediate fix. The entire staff does everything they can do take care of all the requests we send in in a timely manner. Have there been hiccups? Suuuure, none of them are Gods but in moments when i've seen them stop to take a quick breather...I've seen them jump back up on to the next task. If you are looking for a new Marina home I hope people will give Straight Creek a look! I don't think you will be disappointed with what the Marina and its staff have to offer!

The Sinks is a lovely waterfall along the river. There is a small parking lot with about a dozen spaces where we found parking. An observation area is a short walk from parking. A sign describes the area and that the falls were manmade. During the late 1800's the river was used to transport logs/timber to the nearby town of Elkmont. After a storm, flood waters caused a jam in the river. Dynamite was used to restore water flow. The blast resulted in a twist in the river and creation of the waterfall. A set of stone steps leads up a hill, offering lovey views of the falls. There are dozens of waterfalls in the Park. Sinks is one of the few that is drivable, which is great for people that cannot hike. I picked up a Waterfalls map at the visitor center that I found interesting and informative. Parking passes are required to park in the lot. There are no amenities at the falls. Plan 15-30 minutes for a stop and photos.

It's super busy in the summer, so just be prepared for that. We had to wait about 15 minutes for someone to leave so we could park. That wouldn't keep us from going back, though.

Some areas of the road could only fit 1 vehicle at a time, with a drop off on one side and a mountain on the other. Thankfully, we didn't encounter anyone on our way in or out. I had seen someone saying they had a hard time getting in and I had called ahead of time to ask if we could easily get in and the lady that answered acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. Once we arrived, I immediately didn't want to stay and went to look for something else, but there was no cell service. The signs were all faded, so not sure where to go to check in. We finally figured it out and went to the marina to check in. If you have any mobility issues, you will not be able to get down the ramp to get to the marina. One of the reasons we chose to stay at this place was because they had an on site restaurant. Once I saw the marina, I didn't want to eat there. Everything is run down and seemed dirty...Maybe it was just run down and old. They are listed as a resort...I can't imagine what part of this place is resort like. The pool hasn't been usable in years or maybe even decades and is fenced off. There is no where to swim or enjoy the lake, other than with your water toys. The lady (I think there's only 1 person and she may be the owner) that checked us in said we may or may not be able to pull through in our pull through spot, but that we can back in. There was a small ditch in front of the spot, so backing in was not possible. By the way, there are a few full time RVs and a few cabins and only 1 spot open for overnight guests. So, it's really not a campground or RV park. We squeezed in and lost a couple trim pieces along the way. Then when we got parked, our front door is just steps away from the back of a cabin. So there was no sitting outside and enjoying the lake or the scenery. Only 4 good things about our stay...They had a nice, wide ramp to put your boats and skis in. The person that maintains their grounds does a pretty good job. They have gas and good WiFi (our WiFi didn't work, as there was no service). I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but this place did not feel restful and vacation like. I wanted to save others from the same experience.

I am not a huge fan of smoking and they allowed smoking in the dock where everyone was eating. I get that it's a free country, but maybe have them smoke away from families with young children? Overall the kids liked the pizza and their pretzel and cheese so they were happy. Not a bad option if you are on the lake and want something to eat.
