I visited Dr. Ge for the first time today for a second opinion on my cataract surgery conducted by a different surgeon, and her thorough examination helped me to feel so much more at ease. While her overall opinion echoed my original surgeon's, unlike him, she took the time to explain her observations and discuss the details that led her to that conclusion. Do not come here don't make the same mistake I did!!!!! I came here to get some punctal plugs for my dry eyes. I usually go to a place in LA where it is completely covered by my insurance but I moved to OC so I needed some place closer. I talked to about 3 people in the office including Dr. Ge to get an idea about how much I would need to pay and they all said it should be fully covered just like my other doctor's office. But just in case I asked how much it would be without insurance and the doctor told me it would be around $150 for both eyes. I got the plugs and came back because the first ones were irritating my eyes and got another pair. Then a few weeks later I get a bill and see they charged $350 per eye? Even after insurance with my 2 pairs of plugs I owed over $500. When I tried to get some answers over the phone the only answer I kept getting is "that's how we charge the insurance" and that I should call the insurance instead. Very regretful that I came here and now I'm out $500 on plugs that I get for free at my usual doctor's. Even the plugs that were supposed to last 3 months only lasted a few weeks before my eyes started getting dry again. From my whole experience I can tell all this place cares about is money and they don't care if it affects the patients or not. read more

Delayed my surgery... DO NOT COME HERE! Equipment: outdated Skills: inaccurate and did not pick up how severe my condition was. Front desk: unprofessional years ago, I had an emergency condition with retinal detachment caused by the Macula degeneration, doctor Ge didn't tell me there was a detachment and ask me went back in 6 months for another exam. I felt there was a severe problem and then went to the other doctor 2 weeks later who couldn't believe how severe I was and scheduled a surgery immediately. the exam equipment in her office is very poor, I didn't get the same full range necessary equipment exam as the other doctor has, the personnel in her office are not professional either I highly not recommend her to any patient. I finally recovered due to other doctors (go to South Coast eye center in Laguna Hills) and can finally write this review. read more

We took my son to Dr. Ge and she did a great job! Kids are sensitive to having their eyes messed with and Dr. Ge was very sensitive and patient. I highly recommend her to anyone with a child, especially a "tween." She honored my son's request that the examination light in his eye be only as bright as needed and that nothing be placed in his eye. Horrible experience x 2 visits. Here my Mom and I sit once again WAITING for over 1 hour before she is even seen by Dr. Ge. Her waiting room was packed and spilled over to the hallway as all were having some sort of laser surgery! They scheduled everyone to arrive at the SAME time. I'm talking 12 patients at ONCE!! We would have canceled but we didn't think her insurance would pay to have the same thing done elsewhere. Her first appointment we were in the office nearly 2.5 hours! Ridiculous! Mass production not really much into patient satisfaction. Wonder if we will receive a patient survey? And she really doesn't talk to any one other than her staff. read more

I took my dad to Dr. Ge's office this morning for a cataract surgery consultation. Our appointment was at 8 am so only one person in front of us. The assistant, Mary who was very caring, friendly, professional, know what she was doing when doing testing on my dad. She told me that Dr. Ge is next and with 1-2 min, Dr. Ge showed up. She explained the surgery in very detailed, gave us options to choose from. You don't find a other doctor who is this nice and professional. We booked the surgery right away on the same day. Gave us the instruction, where to go, appointment for post surgery, Covid test. Over all, I recommend Dr. Ge 100%. read more

Dr. Ge is a very knowledgeable ophthalmologist and a highly-skilled surgeon. She performed my cataract surgery, and I could not be happier with the immediate results and my new PanOptix lens. I can't wait to get the other eye done as soon as possible. My mother had the same surgery done about a year ago with another doctor and noted that her doctor was not as thorough as Dr. Ge. She is switching doctors because she was so impressed with Dr. Ge's care before and after my surgery and "envious" of my great results. If you're looking for a fancy doctor's office, you won't find one here, but don't be fooled. While Dr. Ge's office space is utilitarian, she has all the necessary diagnostic equipment to effectively assess her patients. In my view, what's most important is the skill of an eye surgeon. Patients and none native English speaker beware. This place refuses to supply patients with records of their billing and your prescription. They have proven to intentionally stall records if you are unsatisfied with their service. Double checking with another doctor, the prescription varies. So consumers beware. This seems like a questionable shop and feels obligsted to charge you for everything while providing minimal service. The doctor is ok, but the administrative staff needs a great amount of training in customer service. They are terrible and I even wonder why they have a job. It's like they are intentionally sabotaging the business. We have to suggest the doctor to change staff the next time we are in office. Conclusion, If you all have a few grand extra to spend for bad administrative service, but sort of decent eye doctor then this would be the place. We're switching and definitely not going to pay for bad customer service. Anyone else want ok care and bad customer service, please go here. Look for the females at the front desk. Dr. Ge is a great ophthalmologist. She is efficient, knowledgeable, and professional. Time with her is always brief but effective. She gets a solid four stars by herself. So if that's all that matters to you, then you can stop right there. You're in good hands. But me? Well, my main qualm with this place - and the reason I cannot rate it as even 'A-OK' - is because the paddle used to cover an eye during eye exams is not wiped down after use - and neither are the forehead and chin rests. These are all items meant to touch the face during an eye exam. The result? A plastic handle blatantly covered in greasy fingerprints, and the feeling that my nose is oily after an eye exam. Should going to get my eyes checked out involve having to wash my face afterward? I'm admittedly a bit of a germaphobe, but I really don't think this is an unreasonable expectation. Every other eye care professional I have been to always makes it a point to wipe down the equipment with rubbing alcohol before it is used by another patient. It seems to be a medical standard in this country - except at Dr. Ge's office. Other nuances: the waiting room features a torn leather couch with filling coming out, stacks of magazines whose fashions are seasons old, and a collection of preachy religious literature sitting on the end table - right next to the eye care pamphlets. read more

To be fair we never even saw Dr. Ge. I took my elderly mother to Dr. Ge's office for an eye exam. We left after we waited 45 minutes for our scheduled appointment. The waiting room was very small and very crowded. They did require masks to be worn but I was shocked that the office was ok with so many people crammed into such a small space, especially with the problems we are having with COVID. We decided to go see another ophthalmologist that took better care with their patients and saw them in a more timely manner. read more

Dr. Ge is the best ophthalmologist I have seen so far. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and caring. She patiently answered all the questions that I had. Her staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable. Her office is conveniently located right next to the new Hoag Hospital in Irvine. The waiting room is simple but well organized and comfortable. The equipment is state of art. I did not see any greasy fingerprints the previous reviewer mentioned, and their equipments are very clean. There office is fully computerized with computers in every room. All in all, I have been pleased with my experience with Dr. Ge and her office. Pretty terrific MD and an AMAZING eye surgeon! I've been a patient of Dr. Ge's for over 6 years and left my prior Opthamologist of 12 years because of his ineptitude. Dr.Ge is a GREAT MD! For my conditions, I need to see Dr.Ge 3-4x/year and she has helped me weather several medical storms. However, her MOST EXCEPTIONAL work was the eye surgery that she did on my eye, right before the most recent, Christmas holidays. I literally had lost my eye sight in that eye due to a very rapidly growing cataract and could not even see the big "E" at the top of the eye chart. Talk about terrified!!! Yet the day after she had replaced my lens, I was already seeing 20/25 - and taking no pain meds! (Only eye drops for healing.) WHEW! As expected, my vision continued to improve. What a wonderful Christmas present! I can see again and better than ever! Because of my medical conditions, I will ultimately, probably need multiple eye surgeries over the years, but I can HONESTLY tell you that not only is the offsite surgical center (in Irvine), that she uses to perform surgery, VERY comfortable and relaxing, but Dr.Ge treats each patient like family and goes above and beyond to do her surgery. WARNING!!!!!! If you are looking to get an Orth-K, please don't choose this place if you don't want to waste your time and money. I brought my son to this place for an Orth-K. After trying several lenses, they told us that they would give up the trials with my son's vision adjusted to 20/80 and 20/40. With my strong insistence, they tried another pair of lenses which brought my son's eyes to 20/30 and 20/60, and they stopped the trials and ordered permanent lenses for us. Since they can do something about it, I am wondering why they give up? I pay thousands of dollars with my son's eye not well adjusted! They told me it is my son's problem, and not everyone can do 20/20. However, I went to a different doctor, and the doctor was able to adjust my son's vision to 20/20 within a month! This confirms my belief that a doctor's skill matters! The front desk and management have a terrible attitude and always seem impatient. Visiting this place was a nightmare for us. Suppose I could rate a negative 5 star for this place. I would do that! read more

I'm happy with the doctor's technical ability, but during this time of Covid, I would expect much better hygiene. First, the doctor opens the door to the exam room with bare hands - a door that had been previously touched by staff. Then she used the computer keyboard, again bare hands, again previously touched by staff. Then during the exam, she reached up and pulled my eyelids up and down - with those same bare hands. I was so shocked I couldn't even say anything. Shouldn't she have at least washed her hands or put on gloves between the time she touched the door handle and keyboard and the time she came within millimeters of my eye. The eye is one of the entry points for Covid - she should know this. She should at least let patients know she's going to do this and give them the option of pulling on their own eyelids. So now, I'm wearing a mask at home to avoid exposing family members if I've been exposed by this thoughtless absence of hygiene, and will also avoid going anywhere for the next week. Even though she's a good doctor, I won't be going back. Even my podiatrist put on gloves before looking at my foot (though maybe for a different reason!) read more

Dr. Ge did a very thorough exam (much more thorough than any Opthamologist has ever done). She communicated the results articulately and gave follow up instructions for the care of my eyes. This may seem like something any doctor would do but I have found it's not the case. Burnout or lack of interest ...... I'm not sure. But Dr Ge took time and had patience. Recommend her highly. Dr. Ge is great. She goes through the exam pretty thoroughly and doesn't try to sell you unnecessary products and such like some other doctors. two complaints though: 1. her office's frame selection is super small, and of that super small selection, one section of it is only for patients with a certain insurance. 2. she doesn't always tell you everything that is wrong with your eyes. She will write it up in the report she sends to your primary care doctor but she won't tell YOU unless she thinks it's necessary. But as a patient, I would like to know everything that is wrong with my eyes and not have things be held back. Aside from those two things, she's a pretty good doctor. read more

Dr. Ge is nice. However, her office staffs are unprofessional. One of the staff named Sophia is very rude. She insisted the information she provided me is correct. I had my insurance company got on the phone told her she is wrong. And the next day on my appointment, the office staffs still argued with me and insisted they were right. The office staffs told me dilation is not covered as part of routine eye exam and I would need to come back next time. I contacted with my insurance company before I come in for second appointment. It turns out dilation is covered as part of routine eye exam. And because I didn't do dilation at the same day as my routine eye exam, this procedure may not covered by my insurance company in future appointments. read more

I was a little hesitant seeing the 2.5/5 Yelp review after my PCP referred me to this office. Now I'm very happy with the visit. As most reviewers commented (I read filtered reviews as well), Dr. Ge is patient, caring, and professional. She listened to me carefully and addressed all my questions. After all the exams, she referred me to another specialist who can help me further. The staff were very helpful as well. After I explained why I need to see the doctor as soon as possible, I was asked to go to the office right away. The referral was also done as an urgent one upon my request. Ive been going to Dr Ge for more than a year. Her visits are consistent and shes one of the top opthos Ive been to. The wait can suck on certain days so its best to ask the front desk whrn are the slow days when you wanna go in and out. Dr Ge also does alot of things that even a neurooptho can do. For me, Dr Ge has been a one stop optho compared to most of other opthos in OC. I kinda wish noone reads this because I like my visits short!! Shes amazing tho. I know you will like her. read more

I went to see Dr. Ge based on my insurance provider and she did a nice job with taking care of my eye issue. Unlke the first doctor I went to, she was by far more sympatheic and showed general concern for my well-being and was not just out to see how much money she could get out of me. I was nervous about having the eye surgery, but Dr. Ge was very careful and I did not feel any pain at all! This was a huge relief and I was on my way home in no time at all. I had developed a serious case of Red Eye after working round the clock for 30 hours. They were so messed up, my wife had to drive me from work to the doctors office.
