My experience with Dr. Oakey was easily one of the best I've had at any specialist's office. From the start, the receptionist was courteous and friendly, and the wait time was negligible. What really sets Dr. Oakey apart is his dedication. He doesn't rush his patients; he takes the time to teach and explain because he genuinely cares. In fact, he actually called me a couple of hours after my appointment to share an additional finding he'd thought of after I left. Most importantly, he corrected a previous diagnosis I had received from both an optometrist and a prior retina specialist. Having the "cloud" of AMD removed--and being told I don't need AREDS--was a massive relief. After doing my own research, I found his diagnosis to be spot-on. I just wanted to say that this doctor is amazing, knowledgeable, and has the best approach and most comforting attitude. There was a point during the last visit where my husband was very stressed out about temporarily losing his sight and the way that this doctor was informing him while keeping things comfortable and lighthearted to match his personality, I was getting a little choked up and teary at how kind and intelligent they are every time we're here. I was referred to Dr. Zack Oakley by an ophthalmologist specialist for a retina examination. Dr. Zack is a retina specialist and surgeon. Going in, I had a pretty good idea what was going on with one of my eyes. Without getting in to all of the big words and symptoms, my issue affects people with Type A personalities and stressful jobs; pretty consistent. When I checked in at the front desk, the staff member was really nice and professional. The technician who conducted the tests was also friendly and professional. After waiting several minutes for the test results, I met with Dr. Zack. I was expecting the same in and out, quick explanation, and move on to the next patient routine, but I was horribly wrong. Dr. Zack explained, in detail, what was going on with my eyes. It was almost an emotional experience because I had been dealing with the issue for almost 10 years (but becoming more bothersome), and I finally received a diagnosis and treatment option. I have never experienced such care and compassion from a medical professional. Although my issue is ongoing, there is a plan. The good news is that the issue rarely results in blindness. I am writing this review for those people who is going through a horrible, horrible Retinal vein occlusions experience. I highly recommend Dr. Oakey as your next doctor. One of the reasons I highly recommend Dr. Oakey is because I have gone through multiple doctors, from Japan to United States and none of them was able to give my life back like Dr. Oakey. The first day I was seen by Dr. Oakey, I was very impressed by his ability to be able to explain what is going on with my eye and what are my options to fix it. His knowledge and professionalism made me feel there is hoped to get my life back and he will be there every step of the way. Any questions weather in person or via email, he will respond in a timely manner. After seeing Dr. Oakey, a couple of times, I asked him what the fastest way is to get my eye back to normal. He suggested an eye surgery. After explaining the procedure step by step doctor Oakey made me feel he has done this a million times with 110% success rate. After a week I had my surgery, and I couldn't be happier I had it done. After two weeks of recovery my vision was starting to get back to normal. I had a vitrectomy surgery with Dr. Oakey three weeks ago. My left eye was really bad that I could not see any letter when I was tested and I could not drive at night time. I fell down a few times in the last few months. I had postponed the surgery for a year because I was afraid of the procedure. On my first appointment with him, Dr. Oakey showed me the image of my retina, pointed out and explained to me where the problems were and how he was going to take care of it. He listened and answered all the questions I had. I asked so many questions as I wanted to know what I was facing and how to prepare for the surgery. After his explanation, I felt at ease about my surgery and trusted him completely. The day of the surgery, I saw him before and after the surgery. I had no pain or irritation on my eye and I was able to comfortably sit up, walk around and talk to my family. Moreover, the eyes drops prescription was waiting for me at the pharmacy already. The day after my surgery, I went in for an after surgery follow up. My eye was tested and he showed me the image of my retina before and after and explained what he did. He told me that my retina had more problem than was shown on the image test and he had fixed that problem. He also explained in detail about my recuperating process and what to expect. He told me to call him any time if I have any questions or concerns. After one week, I went back for another follow up and everything look great. I did call once and asked to speak to the assistant because I did not want to interrupt him with his patient, but he came to the phone and talked to me. My eye can see much better now, more than I expected. Thanks to Dr. Oakey. I highly recommend him as a retina surgeon to anyone. Appointment is easy to make, Dr. is very knowledgeable, and caring.
