A month ago, I was driving my old Dodge Dakato pickup easterly on Thomas Street. At Eighth Street,…read moreanother driver ran their stopsign and blew through the intersection from left to right. I swerved to my left to avoid a crash and ended up on the raised mediam. Thank God, I didn't hit a power pole or tree. So. here I am, only been here since March 13. The impact messed up my front suspension, and I am clueless as to which mechanic to trust. My truck, Greenie, will take several days to repair. I live in Marathon City and work in the Walmart pharmacy, and MUST get to work every day. So, I gingerly drove down off the medium. As soon as I started driving (slowly), both tires started squalling, Yep, front steering sector fritzed big time, and I needed to get an AWD vehicle. The best plan I could come up with was to drive a mile to a dealership near Menard, check their inventory, get recommendations on mechanics in the area, and buy a clean, AWD vehicle. SelectAUTO came up as highly recommended, though they are located in Weston. I requested that they send a wrecker, which they did, and I sailed away in a 2017 Ford Escape. Mike Molitor, the manager, is extra nice, very helpful. It took 10 days to assemble the parts and get them installed. While they were at it, they adjusted and cleaned my brakes. Nicely done! Reasonable too.!

I was referred to Chuck and Kris by 2 coworkers who indicated that Chuck and Kris were long time…read morefriends who opened a shop and did automotive work for a fair price. I will admit their prices are fair for parts and labor. That is where my good review ends. I told Chuck that if the repair wasn't done right away I wouldn't care. He had me check back in a week. When I checked back in he told me he would have it done the following week. Again I called back and he said probably this week. He did call 2 days later and it was done. I paid the bill and there weren't any issues driving it home. At that point I was satisfied that I had found a fair mechanic that I could return to until the very next time I drove it. All I did was head to the local O'Reilly's because I was changing the oil in my other car and the dash lit up with so many lights and messages from just backing out of the driveway. Apparently the axle shaft wasn't locked in place and it popped out causing the wheel speed sensor, that was working, to break and luckily that disabled the rear differential and saved the brand new axle from any damage. It ran terrible and made a rubbing noise that I traced to the rusted out dust shield behind the brake rotor that they did a terrible job of removing and not replacing. The loose axle was easy to spot because there was a wet spot easy to see near the point the axle and rear diff meet. Not locking in an axle shaft is a rookie mistake, not something a certified mechanic and shop owner should ever make. I will not be returning due to this error made by this shop that could've cost me thousands had it not occurred backing out of my driveway the 2nd time I drove car. The first being the time I left the shop. Just be aware that you get exactly what you pay for and paying a fair price at a shop shouldn't result in further damage to the vehicle, whether it was $100 sensor or $1000 in total damage. If I refer to an earlier review left by Trevor H., this type of thing almost seems intentional. Also a reason not to return.
