Great location, only draw back is they don't have a coffee shop or hot cocoa bar. Really wonderful programs that help get kids introduced to hockey and skating for an affordable price. Little Howlers is one of the best local sports programs available to Flagstaff!! Open skate is fun, one suggestion would be to make the music a little more kid/family friendly. Staff are super friendly and help to answer questions for newbies and experienced skaters alike. Program coordinators are really experienced, knowledgeable and happy to help get you plugged in. We have had a great experience getting familial with this venue and the programs. read more

Jay Lively Ice Arena is a single sheet, city run, ice rink. This rink is located on the far north edge of Flagstaff. It has single point access with ample parking, especially when considering the very limited capacity of the 2 rows of bleachers in the rink. The facility appears well run, the ice kept decently well and the locker rooms are very well planned. When you arrive at this rink as a hockey player, you immediately realize the locker rooms section of the facility must have been an add-on after the rink was built. The built on locker section is attached nicely to the far side of the boards, with the changing rooms, showers and hallway all away from the main area. The lockers are nice, spacious and well kept. The split shower/washroom facilities between the lockers contain 6-8 shower spots each, and are kept clean. Thankfully, the water temperature works in most shower heads (which can sometimes be a failing of rink facilites). The ice itself seems maintained well and the staff seems present and attentive, which can again, be a failure at many local rinks. One oddity that makes little sense is the rink policy of "no outside food", considering there is no consession, store, restaurant or grill inside the facility. Seems like a mindless edict to demand fans not bring in outside food when nothing else is available. Overall, rink appears good and well managed, and certainly a wonderful asset for the city of Flagstaff. read more

Unfortunately, this is one of the only ice skating rinks I've been to that doesn't allow a son to skate with a dad in the casual stick time. I don't know if they just don't have up-to-date insurance, but I couldn't believe it when I came there. Not to mention, it seems like their facilities are way out of date. This is one of the lower quality rinks I've skated on. It seems like this is run by a city that wants to avoid making a great hockey experience. If you're from out of the area, I would leave your gear at home (especially if you have kids that skate too). The one pro is that their staff that I dealt with were nice and friendly, I really appreciated that. read more

First, a few things you need to know: This is a government funded rink They do not make money It is the only rink in Flagstaff, and a lot of people want on. Now, on to the important stuff. Adults: $6.75 Kids: $3.50 Skates: $4.00 Calendar: http://www.flagstaff.az.gov/index.aspx?NID=2711 Chances are that if you are going to a busy skate session (Friday night) it is going to be pretty packed, so get there a little early. Parking is going to be pretty tight, especially if there are hockey games after the session. Plus, this way you make sure you get the right size skates, before the sell out (No half sizes). The daytime sessions are USUALLY empty, and a great time for beginners to step into open ice. You may encounter a busy Saturday from time to time. Find some space to sit down, and store your stuff. They have cubbies along the wall, as well as locking lockers (The cost $0.25). Your stuff is usually just fine, but be aware, they are not responsible for ANYTHING. The locker rooms are luxurious in comparison to those around the state. The dressing area was built by the community, and hockey players involvement in the design is apparent. read more

Not sure. We stopped in last week to go skating. There were so many people that we couldnt even get to the end of the line. Good for them, bad for the kids who wanted to go skating so bad. I would suggest better planning or more open skating during winter break. read more

our family traveled from page, az just to skate. we went ice skating on 12/26/14 around 11 am. The cost to skate with rentals for 2 adults and 2 kids was $33. when our family first arrived there were not very many people skating. but with time there were a lot of young and old skaters. we would go back again! pros: - there were skating assist device for free for young children. - we had fun! cons: - even after the zamboni resurfaced the ice it was still rough. - the skating assist device was difficult to use. the bottom tubbing wore through the rubber cap on the botton. so the tubbing was catching the ice which made skating a little difficult for our boys. - my skates were in bad condition. - the staff working were not friendly or excited about working. lol. read more

There were 13 people in our church youth group who went on a Saturday 2/10/18. We usually do this trip once a year in February or March. The place had lots of people. We arrived about 1:30 and left at 4:00. There was a very large group from a NAU fraternity and sorority (they were very respectful). Lots of children there too. Everyone received the correct shoes. The staff was friendly and efficient. The ice machine comes out about every hour to hour and a half. This gives the kids a chance to rest. We had a great time. THanks. Ted read more
