The atmosphere was great! Came here during the holidays, which is a very popular spot for the OHV community. The burgers smelled fantastic, so of course I had to try one of them! I had the Ortega burger and with a side of nachos. It was a delicious meal to complement the perfect outdoor weather. Service is very friendly and inviting, especially Lety, the owner of the restaurant. She is such a sweetheart who made us feel very welcomed! If you're ever in the area, either passing through or riding some quads, give this place a try. They have live music as well! read more

So we happened upon this spot because we were driving back from Mammoth and had to use a restroom. Little did we know that this was not some run of the mill convenience store but a super cool spot. It's one of those off the beaten path experiences that you can only find on road trips in the middle of nowhere. In the courtyard you feel like you're stepping back in time, and in the back there's a large outdoor music venue. Unfortunately there were no shows at the time we were there, but I definitely want to come back and some point to check out a show there. Everything has this high desert retro vibe. This is the best place by far, frees I love the green hill is my spot to camp. Dirt bike riding is my favorite thing at desert...

While I was never much into the off road scene, I used to come along for the ride to Jawbone as a younger man with some buddies. While they were whooping it up kicking a ton of dust in the air on BLM ground, I was usually off looking for snakes and minerals and scorpions and geckos and other desert critters. Years later, I brought my own kids out to Jawbone Canyon in my 4WD and we took the backroads up into Red Rock... they enjoyed the critters as much as they enjoyed watching some dudes shooting rifles and handguns out in the middle of nowhere. As the sun went down, the jackrabbits, geckos, and snakes put on quite a show for us crossing the road, and I fell just a little more in love with the area. For the most part, we blow through here on our way to the trout waters of the Eastern Sierra nowadays, but when we have time to kill, I like stopping in to the Jawbone Store. There always seem to be travelers here with stories to tell, and the vibe is always family-positive, even if it's a little rough around the edges. Once met a man old man here who was riding his bicycle from Argentina to Alaska... and man, he had some stories. An older biker dude came up and put his arm around the cyclist's shoulder, handed him a beer, and said, you're almost there buddy. Laughed all the way to Bishop about that one. Gasoline is expensive here, drinks, food, and snacks are a couple bucks more than your local Ralph's... and totally worth it to stop in here and dig the patio, the property, the laid back high desert vibe that is defined by resilience, resolve, and relaxed. Stop in and get a cold drink. It's still a ways to Mojave from here. read more

We were on a stretch of hwy that didn't have a gas station within a one-fourth tank of gas worth of distance so were thankful to see this place. Staff was very friendly. Apparently there's a lot of cool stuff to see/buy here. Will try to stop by next time if we're not pressed for time. read more

Store has basic essentials. Gas price was a little over $6 a gallon, only a buck more than normal gas prices. It is a roll up pay then pump system. Restrooms are only open during business hours and I was under the assumption they would have some available around the clock. I asked where they would have some and I was told there are portapotties through out the grounds however didn't find any. We even rented a couple quads. One regular size and one kids size 50. So much fun!!! Prices were to be expected, very high. And for those trying to find any info about the canyon it's self like I tried, I reccomend coming fully prepared. It was absolutely freezing and the wind was the icing on the cake. No running water or restrooms anywhere. But if you are prepared you will have quite the adventure. Lots of sand trails hard and easy. I would be back but perhaps during spring read more

What a total rip off is what my 12 year old boy said after I put some gas in the truck. Not really I said, thank god that this place has gasoline for all the dumb assess like myself that didn't have enough gas to get to the next town. Yes, it's true I paid double for gas but thank god the owner puts up with all the state of California BS and has gas because my family and I would have either pushed my 4000 pond Toyota Tundra a few miles or we would have experienced a long day in the desert while we waited for AAA to show up. First off, this place looks like an old rundown auto shop right out of the movie urban cowboy. If you ever saw the movie then try and remember where Sissy worked, this place looks like it will do for when they make the sequel. There's a dirty little dog running around the front of the shop greeting customers as they arrive, there are also a few abandoned cars and possibly a few abandoned buildings surrounding the main entrance of the store. Yes I did go inside and from what I can tell it's like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere. I saw a man talking to a handful of teenagers, they look like they were riding in the area. The man behind the counter was giving them directions to some of the better places to ride. There were lots of cold drinks, water and beef jerky like snacks. Almost like the famous slash X bar off the 241 in Barstow only without the bar. So enough with the detailed information about a little tiny gas station/liquor store on the middle nowhere, please do me a favor, if you're in the area and you need something cold to drink or even some gas, stop in and give these guys some business. They saved my ass today and I'm very happy that I found this hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. I'm going to try and stop in and buy something here every time I pass this way. My brother and I took our 12 year old sons Matt and Jose gave them a great tutorial. As a matter of fact my son was doing donuts within 10 minutes. Thank goodness we found this little hidden gem in the middle of no where! We were super short on gas with no gas station nearby for miles and we were running low on snack options. This store had everything we needed and some. They're actually more than just a convenience store they rent out atvs and other dirt toys. So, this is where you stop when you are spending the a day or two out at Jawbone Canyon. Jawbone canyon is BLM land and allows for all kids of cools things such as off road vehicles, shooting, camping, etc. The store itself is kind of small and kitchy and is always a welcomed when you have been out in the hot sun for a few hours. Prices are a little high, as you might expect so it is usually cheaper to stock up before you go out to Jawbone. Having said that, this is a decent joint with a grill, a small amount of clothing, etc. Meh. read more

This place is a little off the beaten path, The gasoline prices aren't too bad considering where they happen to be located. They make some awesome beef jerky. The prices are reasonable. I recommend that you stop by here on the way to Red Rock Csnyon. They also have a good selection of snacks, soft drinks, and alcohol. read more

Iv been riding the Mojave desert sence 1975, then discovered bonks jawbone store in 1979, a awsome little place to rest and have a cold one, my son was only 4 years old riding on my tank from dove springs just for a ice cream samie,, when it burned down it was like losing a family member,, then out of the ashes jawbone came back to life,, its my favorate place ever!!! The food and the people are unbelievable cant thank them enough for all their hard work to make it a family paradise the chilidogs are the best ever!! the owner here really saved me one night when I was passing through and I needed some gas and had nothing left in the tank. He was closed, but I saw somebody nose and around outside so I asked him for some help and he helped me out and gave me some advice driving through the desert, which is always fill your tank as soon as it gets down below half. Customer service here is old-school. Old-school in the most basic sense that if you need help, they will help you get whatever you need. Case in point, all I needed was a postcard and a stamp, and the gentleman just gave me a stamp after I bought some postcards of Bob the 100 year old desert tortoise. It's not often to find such kindness. The visitor center here is incredibly educational and there were some great children books and books for pre-teens and teens that I regret not buying as Christmas gifts. I highly recommend taking a drive through the desert and stopping here. I never could have imagined that it would be so beautiful, educational and people would be THIS friendly. read more

Bobby (who owns the place) is awesome! What a nice guy. My car broke down in the middle of the night a few hundred yards from Jawbone Station and Bobby must've seen me because he came by to offer help. He told me he owns the gas station and if it was gas I needed he could help me out. I was 40 miles from home and didn't have a spot to tow my car to (with the 7 free miles I had from AAA) and he was nice enough to offer to let me tow my car to his property. What a help that was! He's a super cool guy, really friendly and very helpful. Definitely going to stop by again during my travels to say hi and grab a Dr Pepper! read more
