Why do I go to Java Man? Because the coffee and baked goods are delicious, the staff is crazy fast and now all I have to do is walk in, say nothing and they are making my coffee because they all remember what I order. Love love love this coffee place. Excellent baked goods (was even given an extra cup cake to take home) and delicious coffee. Have had frapaccino's, hot coffee and iced coffee and all were a treat. One afternoon I had their "pasta" greek salad which was actually a pasta salad on top of a green salad with honeylemon dressing and it was so delicious. Cute place where alot of people set up their computers. I have seen people meeting up to give another an iphone tutoring session to people just doing their own work on an ipad. I had the decaf blended mocha which was delicious but my favorite was my sister's Mexican chocolate latte. It was the perfect balance of espresso & Abuelita hot chocolate. Not sure if they use Abuelita but it is very similar. Just had brunch at Abigail's next door so did not try their food but the pastries look amazing. I've been looking for a good breakfast burrito so may try that next. read more

Java Man is fantastic. Free wi-fi and good coffee with friendly, attentive staff. It is in a great location in Hermosa right by the pier.

It's great if you can get them while they're open. I work around the area and when I need a good cup of Joe before 6pm, I head over there. Great assortment of tea and good pastries. Service is fast. Sometimes I get a sandwich there too if I need a healthy meal, quick. Nice cozy place to hang, too. This is my preferred coffee joint. read more

i love my Java Man!! I only dropped it to 4 stars because they changed their hours to permanent winter ones, closing at 6. This is a true bummer because I used to hang out here til closing at 10, either chilling with friends or grading papers. The guys are super fun, but yes, they can be a bit boisterous! I've been coming here since 2004 and still love it!! When I was battling health issues, the guys made me a special sugar free & caffeine free drink that was still tasty. Their pastries are so delish, and recently they've started carrying some gluten-free goodies, which makes me happy since that's how I eat now! I only wish they stayed open later and would bring their happy hour back! Love you guys! read more

I came for the breakfast burrito because I saw good reviews for it. Unfortunately, it wasn't good. Not horrible, but not good. The tortilla stuck to the wrapper they use, and they were actually pretty small. The coffee was nothing special at all. I got a white mocha and it was bitter and flavorless. The WiFi is HORRIBLE! It was so slow! Nothing would load. All in all, not a great cafe. read more

I am a regular here at Java Man, but I must say that there are a few things here that really bug me. Iv'e been asked on a number of occasions to move to a smaller table during non-busy hours since I was by myself. The individual tables are barely large enough to hold a laptop much less anything else. Secondly, I had just settled in at my table recently and planned on purchasing something eventually, and a worker came over to me to specifically tell me that I needed to buy something and that I couldn't just use the internet. I also agree with another comment that was made on here.....the workers are ALWAYS yelling. I don't mind the busy atmosphere, but they literally scream across the place at each other. Very distracting and annoying. Lastly, don't plan on using a credit card for anything less than $5. This used to be my favorite coffee house, but they have become very unwelcoming and certainly don't make you want to patron their business read more

Love, love, love Java Man :). The coffee is tasty and the staff are awesome! Nicholas and Daniel are usually there when I go in and always have my coffee ready for me...they are SO friendly and that goes for the rest of the staff too!I I go there pretty much every morning before work to chill a little and people (or dog) watch a little or read etc.... I have met a lot of really great people over the years! They also have yummy burritos, pastries, muffins, oatmeal and more. The owner also owns Ocean Diner, another great local place to visit :)). I honestly find them a little pricey for the amount they give you. But what they give you is amazing. This is my go-to hangover coffee spot cuz i feel like they make it a little stronger/bitter than most. Big fan of the white chocolate mocha. Service is great they are ready to whip you up something the second you walk in. The atmosphere is very pleasant comfortable and quiet its built out of an old 1920's beach house so its practically historical. Its walking distance to the beach so if you just want to get a good cup of somethin and walk down its a pretty awesome afternoon. read more

I've been going to this place for years and really enjoy the atmosphere and coffee;however have always had a problem with some of the staff that work there. They can be very rude and they talk about the customers in Spanish. Fortunately or unfortunately,I'm fluent in Spanish and caught everything they were saying. Also, one of the guys gave me a hard time and started arguing with me in front off all the other customers becasue he didn't here what I ordered from the other guy. He was really rude about it and I almost called the owner,because I like this place and hate to see it get ruined becasue of the rude staff. Anyways, Java Man you are a great place but need to fire most of your staff and hire more friendly people that make you feel welcome. read more

I came here with expectations of this place being friendly, homey, and a good place to get some work done, and I wasn't disappointed. The food and coffee however, didn't really satisfy me. I got the chicken pesto sandwich, if I remember correctly, and an iced latte with almond milk. The latte wasn't that special and tasted acidic. I don't have a refined taste in coffee and I can't really tell good from bad coffee, but I know it's not that great quality when it's acidic and sour (or at least that's not something I look for in a latte). The sandwich came with an apple and bag of Lay's chips which were a nice surprise since I hadn't seen that on the menu description. It was much bigger than I expected, which could be considered a good thing, and it was stacked pretty tall. However, it tasted mostly of mayo (the chicken was mixed and had a chicken salad or tuna sandwich sort of texture) and I didn't like the kind of bread it came with. When I ordered, the man at the register asked if I wanted rye or sourdough, and I said sourdough, but I would have liked it better if the bread had been from a crunchy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside loaf instead of the kind of bread loaf slices you find in kids' lunch sacks. The space felt nice and homey, with 3 rooms connected by doorways or a wall opening. There are plenty of outlets available, so I'd say it's a solid place if you want to study or work. For this reason I'd come back and order a different coffee drink and food item. It's also very close to Hermosa pier, and there is metered street parking. read more

I usually don't write reviews on places unless they're really good or really bad. This place is the former; really good! My wife and I popped in for a coffee and were greeted by two super-friendly guys that seemed really passionate about providing great service. They quickly whipped up our orders and had us on our way. Great little spot to grab coffee (which doesn't get that gross burnt taste of say...30 minute old Starbucks, or even Catalina Coffee Co.) and their baked goods are top-notch and large; unfortunately, it gets punished--staristically speaking, that is--for one of their particularly loud staffers. When you've got your headphones on, with the muzak up, and you can *still* hear the screeches at the front counter, you know you've got trouble. Would be great if one of his mates would pull him aside and tell him to cool his jets. read more

If you like a neighborhood coffee house, this will be perfect for you. I work from home and sometimes take my computer over to Java man to do work because it is a great atmosphere. I'm not big on coffee, but they have bottled sodas and other drinks in addition to coffee. Its usually pretty quiet inside. The only downside is that the wifi sometimes has issues, and it is not air conditioned (which is only a problem on the hottest days here). read more

Java Man is a nice quaint place with a homey feel. The coffee of the day was very good and the 50 cent refills to go was awesome. I also had a Poppy Seed muffin with Almond shavings and it was one of the best muffins I have had in a long time. If you want a break from the factory people pusher coffee places, definitely stop here and enjoy. read more
