I've been coming here for years and I love this place. The coffee is high-quality, super inexpensive, and it honestly has some of the friendliest staff I've ever met. I pay less than $4 for a jumbo iced coffee and I open my laptop and do work here whenever I need to get out of the house. They create a really cool environment with a mix of chairs, couches, stools, and small tables. And the constant circulation of people In and out means it's very rare to not find somewhere to sit. And just the nature of Hermosa Beach tells you the people watching is awesome too! They also have a pretty large range of baked goods in the morning, I've had the bagels in the coffee cake and I loved both. I needed a pick me up after a leisurely (not by choice) lunch. It was grey outside and despite wanting to curl up in sweats it was St. Patrick's day so I figured caffeine would give me a necessary boost. On Sunday morning we oder a double chocolate chip regular size for like $5 and a house coffee($2) with a brown sugar coffee cake($3). The double chocolate chip we enjoyed definitely can taste the chocolate. The house coffee is bold for that quick fix. I would like more options of coffee flavors when ordering. The house coffee cake was my least favorite the toppings of brown sugar was just that no coffee taste, the bread was under flavored. The service was pretty efficient, the staff friendly and welcoming. The coffee shop had no line or waiting time to oder, has patio and inside seating, coffee shop is nice clean and comfortable beach setting. Iced lattes are horrible and have no flavor (even when you ask for a flavor in there). I keep going back thinking the next time it will be better and it never is. Much better lattes elsewhere- maybe their normal coffee is good, I just don't get how it is always busy. read more

Always so friendly! They usually have 1 bakery item that is gluten free - today it is a blueberry muffin. It's oversized and delicious. They also make drinks with coconut milk upon request and have stevia! The setting is like an old bungalow but there is plenty of room to read or be on the PC. read more

so, I might actually be writing this review FROM java man right now. Not sure if that makes me biased, but also, oh well! Its tasty. When I need to get away from my apartment and work on 'studying' Java Man is an excellent option. Its really cute and homey and reminds me of places that I went to in portland -- it has character unlike coffee bean/starbucks! They have good coffee, the tuna sandwich is pretty fabulous and there are plenty of tables close to outlets and free wireless! check, check, check. I like Chocolate Cake! And this place has at least 3 varieties of it at any given time! With a full selection of fresh brewed coffee's, teas, and specialty drinks - there is something for everyone to wash it down:) WiFi is free! Bring your LapTop! On some days acoustic performances are a fresh surprise as are the artworks on the walls that are ever changing (because they are for sale). Parking is on the street and is hit or miss dependent on the time/day. The location is a converted house and has a unique ambience. Bathroom is tiny and for only one at a time. Lots of tables, some couches, and various seats. Overall a great indie coffee shop with more character than the chain stores. read more

It's our local coffeeshop. I've honestly had coffee only once here and it was quite decent. It is always somewhat busy, very pet friendly, with friendly folks around. Outside and inside seating, I believe with WiFi and breakfast burritos. We always walk by during our strolls to the strand and enjoy knowing or neighborhood​ shop is doing well. I like Java Man. I like the location, close to free parking up the hill, by the social scene, and also so close to the ocean. I like the comfortable home atmosphere inside and the many tables an chairs inside and out. I like the drinks and snacks selection. I like that if you check in on Yelp you get a free cookie!! Soleil S. and I stayed here for a few hours girl talking, people watching, and relaxing. Even after they closed we moved to the clean benches just a few feet away. Such an adorable little coffee shop. I've only been here once but I can see a long and bright relationship budding with this place. I had the coffee of the day which was butterscotch. The coffee didn't taste extraordinarily like butterscotch but it wasn't bad nor was it very expensive. It's so homey inside. I'm torn on this review. They have great coffee, delicious baked goods (MORNING GLORY MUFFIN!) and good iced drinks BUT the service is TERRIBLE. I frequent here often because it's the closest coffee shop to my office, meaning I would be somewhat of a regular, but apparently these guys who run the place are allowed to just treat you like you don't matter. There have been numerous times where they've straight up given me attitude for my order, which isn't hard to make, or rolled their eyes at me. I always tried to be friendly, since I figured I would be seeing them often, but doesn't seem to matter to them. Also, I wish it didn't feel like I was in a dirty living room of a random friend in college. :( Too bad they've got me hooked to their drinks and food! read more

Cute little locally owned coffee shop. As with all coffee shops, I go mainly for latte's. I'd go there more consistently if their latte's were more consistent. If they are busy with a long line, expect your latte' to taste more like a coffee with a thin layer of foam on it. Burritos are a great value. I like the rotating art display. read more

Java man coffee is my early morning spot when I need to hurry and. get to work. They are the only coffee spot in downtown Hermosa that I have found that opens before 7:00am. It's better than Starbucks/dunkin but not quite as good as some other local shops. I can't say much about the one muffin I had it was a blueberry with cream cheese. I am a huge coffee lover. I rated this coffee shop a three star because of the quality of the coffee. The two men who worked there seemed to be a bit flustered but they were friendly. I ordered an iced latte with soy milk and white chocolate. I saw them make my beverage, and I work at a coffee shop. The man made me an iced coffee with soy and white chocolate. Now knowing mistakes happen, I asked him, is there espresso in here because I don't taste it, and without hesitation he said yes there is. Now it's okay to make a mistake but to lie about it all together is not okay. Might give this place a second chance but I doubt it. read more

Vibe is cool if you've been there before, but the small ordering area can get crowded and locals treat you like an idiot if you don't seem to be following the unwritten rules. I love Hermosa Beach and I love coming to the area during the morning. This is one of the few places that are open so early, so props to this place for providing a space for all the early birds. It's a very cozy coffee shop, and it looks a lot like a home transformed in to a cofee shop. There are tons of drink and food options, including breakfast and lunch foods. I went with an ice blended mocha and plain bagel, which were only okay, but I'd like to come back and try some of their lunch menu items, as well as their warm drinks. What I like about this place is the ambience inside and outside. Inside, there are three nicely decorated room areas with ample seating: long tables and short tables, armchairs, and couches. If I lived in the area, it would be a great place to study. There is also no shortage of outlets for you to juice up if you bring a laptop or your phone charger. Outside, there are several lawn furniture tables set up right on Pier Avenue, so if the weather is nice, it's a great place to relax and soak in Hermosa. read more

I like this coffee shop for 3 reasons: 1. While they have a low fat and a gluten free muffin option and substitutes like almond milk, they haven't gone totally overly health sensitive like many shops in LA and also serve things like homemade rice crispies and chocolate chip cookies that taste a bit like snickerdoodles. I've had the chai latte and pumpkin latte and they have good spice and aren't too creamy. They also make seasonal treats. All for maybe the most reasonable prices in town given their location. 2. They know their customers. The guys I've seen here are very friendly as in "hey Nieghbor, what's up?!" kind of way. They know the regular orders, where people like to sit if they stay... I dropped my cookie once and they were like "we can fix this" and just gave me another. Lastly, it has a kind of worn in feel that you want in a "my regular coffee shop". The furniture is randomly collected pre-owned types with some proper thick tables. The inside is bigger than it looks from the outside, with a wall that creates sections and is well laid out to sit in groups or grab an armchair to read on your own. Maybe living in England with the neighborhood pubs furnished this way just makes me partial, but I just think these things make it feel personal and cozy, despite being well-lit (light is something you don't find in English pubs and cafes). The outside tables have umbrellas if you just ask. Overall: good products at a great price with local shop charm. read more
