Bit disappointed and don't think I'll be returning. No seasonals displayed so asked what they could do. Owners suggested a pumpkin latte. I asked for oat milk. Tipped 2$ for an almost ten dollar total on a 12oz. The latte doesn't provide sweet pumpkin profile but rather bitter. I heard them saying almond and can only conclude that's what they gave me. read more

I was on a layover and stopped by the Java House for an iced latte before exploring the city. The embience in this coffee shop is very relaxing and you can tell there is pride of ownership. There were lots of available tables and I was greeted by two lovely smiles/warm welcomes upon entering. The icing on the cake was that one of the baristas (and owner I assume) checked in on me to make sure I was enjoying my drink, that's a nice touch! For nearly 20-years, Java House has firmly stood its ground on the corner of Evergreen and Columbia. Between successfully competing with other local cafés and surviving the tragic Starbucks pandemic, I was intrigued to stop by and experience first hand what keeps this place thriving. The very moment I set foot into the shop, I felt like I slipped into a sitcom. Between the general vibe and the regulars jump starting their morning with "the usual," I couldn't help but wonder if Java House was Vancouver's equivalent of Cheers or perhaps a more appropriate comparison of Café Nervosa on Fraiser. Whatever the sitcom, I must have stuck out like a sore thumb, because after I ordered my latte, the cheerful barista working commented "Oh! This is your first time in!" Now, I will admit that I have a freaky memory when it comes to remembering names and faces, but even I was baffled how she knew this given how long the shop has been around. Quickly wiping the surprised look of my face, I said "Yes it is!" and the lady proceeded to thank me for stopping by and gave me a warm welcome. After this random but much appreciated welcoming, my drink was ready and I was off to conquer my day with my caffeinated sidekick. With just my first sip, I began to understand why this place has been rockin' the couve for so long. The combination of strong yet smooth coffee and a super faint (and not overly sugary) vanilla definitely fit the bill for my ideal yummy latte. For kicks I went back on a Saturday morning to see if I would have a similar positive experience. Needing a java jumpstart to my day, I cut to the chase and ordered a cup of the daily house blend (Panache's anniversary blend). As with my first experience the baristas working were super pleasant and I ended up with a mean cuppa jo. This time however, I stuck around to correct some papers while I enjoyed my bevy. To my surprise, this was a wonderful spot to get some work done, and as an added bonus it was a sunny day so the natural light/caffeine combination put everyone in a wonderful mood. Between the awesome drinks and friendly staff I now understand why this place has kept busy for so long. Java House defiantly earned a spot in my favorite Couve coffee shops, and I have a feeling it won't take long before I become a usual like the rest of them! read more

This place is as good as it gets. The owners Cora and Lonnie are really kind people, and they make delicious drinks & treats. I just moved to Vancouver a couple months back, and checked out Java House one of the first days here. Fast forward to a couple months later, I walk in for another one of their amazing Chai Lattes, and Cora remembers who I am! I was stunned. She asked me how the new job is going, how I'm liking Vancouver/Portland, etc. I was very, very impressed. Beyond feeling like you're actually connecting with somebody rather than the fast-food feel you get at Starbucks, Java House has a great product as well. That is, they have probably a dozen or so different coffee beens from which you can choose. I'm not gonna lie, All those that I've tried have been pretty damn tasty. Check this place out if you get a moment. Or, grab your laptop and work from here one morning. It's a great place and you will feel like a regular. read more

This place can be really small sometimes it just depends on how you look at it, but the last time I went it really was smaller and it reminded me of willy wonka and the chocolate factory and how you would go down the hallway and everything would get really small and you get really big. Then I realized this was not Willy Wonka's chocolate factory this was just a coffee shop and I was left with just me and a cuppa coffee. Each person inside this coffee shop was most likely on Adderall because they did not move from their devices or books for literally hours. I thought that maybe it would be a good idea to buy them something to eat or drink so I went around and I gave my business card out and ask everybody if they would support me and my trip to Uganda. I'm only able to visit Vancouver when I'm home for college holidays, but Java House is almost always the first stop I make. The lattes feature the coffee as they should and are not drowned out by sickly sweet syrup as is done at most chain coffee shops. The tea selection is not extensive, but the loose-leaf teas (the three I've tried) are excellent. As mentioned in the other review, part of the reason I like this cafe is the conversation with the friendly owners and baristas. Also the glass windows lining the front provide a nice spot on the weekends to enjoy the sun and people watch :) read more

Stepped into Java House totally unplanned. I desperately needed some caffeine after stuffing my face full of tacos from next door. They may not serve some fancy-ass coffee, like most of the Portland coffee joints, but whatever they are serving here is good. My cappuccino was strong and expertly made. I've been hanging out at Java House for years and look forward to the years to come. You won't get better service or warmer smiles anywhere. My current drink of choice is espresso with a shot of cream and it's a match made in heaven with any one of the fabulous pastries in the case. And it's such a joy to go to Java House and find an assortment of pastry that isn't the same assortment you see at every other coffee house - Plus, they discount whatever is left after 2 PM!! If you need internet access or are part of a large group you will also appreciate the wifi and the expansive seating area in the shared atrium that is full of beautiful art. read more

The owners, Cora and Lonnie have owned this place for 25 years and have an exceptionally loyal customer base for good reason. Their baked goods are great (Marsee Bakery provides them fresh every day). In my opinion, they make the best lattes and Americanos in the Portland/Vancouver area. This coffee shop shares a building with Woody's Tacos, an art gallery, and a couple other shops. The shops are all built against the outer wall, leaving a large, indoor, common area for customers to gather in. There are multiple square, and larger round, metal, patio tables and chairs. A large water fountain sits just outside of Woody's Tacos and stairs lead to bathrooms on the east end. You do have to grab a key from one of the shops to get into the bathroom. Java House has a long, metal spoon attached. Java House, itself, has limited seating along the counter, and some people-watching bar seating along the window. They have a wide variety of teas, and make an excellent chai. Their coffee is bitter and out of dozens of tries, has never been good. I love the common space for larger gatherings. The teas are great. Hence, the "a-ok" rating. The employees are always happy and have a big smile. They don't have many food choices at all. They have no savory options for gluten free or vegans. There is street parking only. Unless there's a major, downtown event, we've never had an issue with parking. read more

They were serving a dark roast blend with silk in the name, but I can't remember the whole thing. The service was surprisingly warm and friendly. The owners, Cora and Lonnie, have developed great rapports with their regular customers and always welcome newcomers with big smiles and fabulous service. My husband loves their coffee and I love their steamer with soy milk and that frothy foam topping with a sprinkle of cinnamon. All their beverages are tasty! This has become my go-to coffee shop in Vancouver! I am a writer so I am a bit picky about coffee shops because I spend so much time in them. This one has delicious espresso (I always order a double Americano), a bit bitter and strong flavor, which is how I like it. Their pastries are delicious, and they have a nice variety to try. Not much in the way of savory or lunch stuff, but I don't come here for that so doesn't bother me. The staff are incredibly friendly, and always have big smiles. My only small complaint is that there is one power strip for the whole place so I have to try and find a seat where my cord will reach, but I have been able to do that almost every time so far. Quant coffee shop nestled into Dwtn Vancouver. Lovely staff and owners. Delicious fresh brewed coffee and quite the selection of Fresh Java House coffee beans. I ordered a Tall Triple Soy Chocolate Mocha. I inquired about their version of Mexican Mocha, which she immediately offered to add free of charge! How kind. My dad order what he described "a much simpler order" of a house coffee and loved it! Great cafe and the open collective foyer area between the buildings exterior shops is quiet and great for relaxing with plenty of fantastic art work to peruse by. Loved my visit :) read more

It sits on a busy corner in the downtown area, has floor to ceiling windows perfect for sipping coffee on a rainy day, a friendly atmosphere and coffee that stands apart from any other shop in town.
