During covid, our neighborhood has been bringing various food trucks to the local elementary school for food pick up. I thought that was a great idea to help support small businesses during this difficult time. And I was excited to try Indonesian food. I pre-ordered two chicken curries in the morning and all I had to do was pick up at 5:15 pm according to the instructions. When the time came, I was ready to walk the block and half to the school for pick up. At the last minute, my husband offered to drive there. Within minutes of him getting to the school, rain started to pour down with ferocious winds. Luckily, he was in the car but he ended up waiting 30 minutes for our meals when I had pre-ordered it hours ago!!! Because the truck was coming to our neighborhood, a woman and her child did walk to the truck and they were soaked waiting for their food. The chicken was a smaller portion than we had anticipated and a little bland. I expected a lot more flavor but am glad it wasn't spicy. I enjoyed the salad dressing with a hint of peanut. I did have to scoop out the dab of chilis in the salad. Lumpia and fried corn fritter were pretty good. They did try to follow my instructions with rice on the side and no utensils/napkins. They couldn't put the rice in a separate container but they did put it by itself in the one large container. I'm also glad they didn't give us any plasticware or paper products. It's always so wasteful when I know I have reusable utensils at home when I do take out these days. I wanted to like this place more. read more

My fiancé was heading back to our apartment from the dentist and saw this truck parked right outside our apartment building and she asked me if I wanted to try it for dinner. They were very grateful for our business as they unfortunately did not have many customers. I wish our building management did a better job advertising or maybe put up signs on Georgia Ave to find it. We had lamb skewers, chicken satay, and seitan and tofu entrees. Unfortunately the seitan and tofu had peanuts which I'm allergic to but my fiancé loved it. I really loved the lamb and chicken, and the lamb was my favorite. The prices were very reasonable (about $10 per entree) and they came with a veggie spring roll and a spicy salad (the sauce burns your mouth). Indonesia is such a populous country and there's not much Indonesian food in the area or even in the US unlike cuisine native to smaller Southeast Asian countries. I ate had from another Indonesian food truck in downtown several years ago when interning and dined at an Indonesian restaurant a couple of years ago in Amsterdam (where it is a common cuisine), and they definitely beat both of them. read more

Was excited to see them outside of my work, but this place is a disaster. I walked up at 11:55 and he said his grill was still warming up and it would be a 10 minute wait. I said no problem. 1 hour later I'm standing with a group of others and we all just want our money back. He doesn't have any of our orders in the system. I've watched him burn and toss 2-3 orders of meat on the grill. I finally get my food 90 minutes after I placed it. It was well seasoned but the lamb was burnt and small for the price. I feel bad for the guy because he needed help, but also don't charge close to $20 for a 90 minute wait and a subpar meal. read more

I had beef rendang and asked for extra tempe, I offered to pay extra since tempe was not in included but it was given for free. Their beef rendang is delicious. I was so excited to see an Indonesian Food Truck in Lakelands, loving Indonesian food as I do. I ordered Rendang that came with salad, rice and corn fritter and I ordered a lamb stick. The flavors of the Rendang were really good - the problems were that there was a huge piece of grizzle that was about 1/3 of the dish. That was disappointing. And then the lamb stick was nearly inedible. It was tiny pieces of lamb all loaded with grizzle and little edible meat. Then to my surprise, the salad dressing was SO hot I had to put sour cream on it! But the one piece of corn fritter was good. All in all, I will be giving a pass to Java Cove. Who ever cuts their meat for the customers needs to be a little more gracious. read more

Friendly service. The other Indonesian food trucks have better corn fritters, but both their lumpia and pickled veggies were perfectly executed. Rice was nice and fluffy, there was a good amount of heat to the spicy sauce, and I like the garnish of crispy shallots, but the beef rendang itself was kinda tough. I'd give them another shot with their kari ayam or sate kambing, I think the former would be nice to sop up with the rice. read more

I like supporting small business whenever I can, and have had great experiences buying dinner from food trucks. I pre ordered the beef rendang, chicken curry, lumpia, and corn fritters, giving the food truck 5 hours advanced notice and a prepayment with 20% tip. The food was 30 minutes late, and took three tries to get the ordered items correct. The beef rendang was almost cold but flavorful. The chicken curry was hot and spicy and also flavorful. The lumpia was excellent. The corn fritters, eaten immediately, would've been delicious, but don't travel well. The side salad was fresh and crisp. While the food is generally delicious and reasonably priced, don't bother to send a web order, and only order the corn fritters if you plan to eat them within minutes. read more

I really don't like giving bad reviews but this food truck was receiving a lot of business of people who ended up getting disappointed. They ran out of so much food, instead of giving a free drink or reducing the price or anything they wanted to charge people the same price instead of offering a reduced price for less food. To me, that seems very greedy of management and customer service. We waited 30 minutes for our food as the guy kept saying it only takes 10-15 minutes. I'm a fan of Indonesian food and tempeh, but this was really bad. I got the vegetarian platter, which I was assured was also vegan. Half the container was salad with peanut sauce. It was okay, but not exciting. Two spring rolls that were okay. Corn fritter that was [shrug] Tofu, rice, and tempeh(?) that was very, very bad, and did not taste vegan. I tried eating the rice and tofu, skipping the grey chunks that I initially assumed were tempeh (albeit not of a flavor or consistency I've ever eaten). But after a while the unpleasant taste just got to me, and I couldn't avoid the indications that something about it just wasn't vegetarian. I couldn't bring myself to try another of the grey chunks (which had a meaty look to them), and I ended up throwing the meal away half eaten. I figured I'd give these guys another try since Sate Truck doesn't seem to come by anymore. Of all the Indonesian food trucks, I have always been disappointed with this one. I don't know how one makes Beef Rendang dry, but they did it. The meat was the worst scraps of meat and I had to take a sip of water for each bite. Would have been a perfect 5 star but 1 of lumpia were empty! I look forward going back to this truck. The chef is incredibly nice and let me sample the beef rendang. This truck is fantastic, the food is always incredible and it has quickly become one of my favorite trucks in the city. Highly recommend the lamb, so tasty! The only reason I'm not give 5 stars is because of the wait time, it's only one guy in the truck and there is always a line. It's worth the 10-15 minute wait, but hard to handle when it's a million degrees outside. read more
