Went in for a coffee and ended up getting their soup of the day. The grilled cheese was AMAZING! The sourdough bread was sooo crunchy and delicious. This had to be one of the best grilled cheese I've had so far. Loved the ambiance of the cafe! Highly recommend getting this dish! My coffee was great too!

A breakfast plate contains three slices of toasted bread, two boiled eggs with one partially peeled, and a small jar of jam. The plate is placed on a wooden table, and the toast appears golden brown. The eggs are peeled, revealing the white and yolk. The jam jar has a black lid and a label indicating it is raspberry jam.

What an adorable spot! So many coffee shops feel dark and closed off. The seating area here was vast and the ceilings were open and tall. The staff was fantastic and welcoming, as well as helpful when trying to ask questions about the menu. I had a chai coffee latte, which was absolutely delicious. I requested it be made "not too sweet" and it was perfect. My breakfast date and I both had the same breakfast item...which was pretty disappointing. We ordered poached eggs, which was served with yolks over hard. I've never seen poached eggs this way - I was looking forward to some runny yolk to use on the delicious sourdough! Since both of our dishes were served the same, we amounted it to a different version of poached eggs and I ate around the hard yolk. I also brought home two of the enormous chocolate chip cookies that were gooey and perfection. Would visit again if downtown South Bend but would study the food photos before ordering!

A printed menu from Java Cafe lists various cocktails and their prices, such as Mayberry Mayhem, Caffeine Is Calling, and Cold Cold Heart. The menu includes drink descriptions and illustrations of cocktail glasses. It is placed on a light-colored, textured table surface, with part of a person's leg and a patterned paper visible nearby.

    Caffé Capriccio - Ube Cookies

We went with a party of 5 and there is only one table that fit us but luckily it was open. I would suggest going early because they sell out fast. It was very busy when we went but it was worth it. I really liked the Ube cookie and the sandwich I got. They warmed the sandwich but not the cookie (I also didn't ask them to). The Ube cookie had coconut in it and I'm not a coconut lover but it was subtle enough that I like it!! Coffee was great too!

Located next to Brasserie 23 and some nice apartments, the exterior of this café immediately gave off European café vibes. Inside, we were greeted by the staff and looked at the menu for a bit before ordering. About 5 minutes after ordering, we received our drinks and food from a few kind, fast, and professional baristas. There is free wifi and the two unisex bathrooms are clean. There is also a lot of places to sit and we saw a few students working on homework while sipping on their matcha lattes. The prices for everything is overall decent but still a little high. Bakery goods are priced well while the drinks are maybe a dollar too expensive. They only use locally sourced whole milk in their drinks as well, just an FYI. All around the cafe are various things for sale, like local coffee beans, glass jars of that whole milk, and yummy loaves of sourdough and foccacia bread. I am from out of town so I didn't buy any bread or milk but I wish I could have! As for the food, everything was indulgent and delicious! We ordered a lot. I got a cinnamon churro latte with GORGEOUS sky design art. The taste was pretty basic - Like a cinnamon hot chocolate. Very milk forward. My bf got a chai latte. This had strong flavor. I should get a different drink next time as I only like to pay $7 for drinks that are unique! My bad! So after we each had an indulgent caffeine drink, we then had a breakfast sandwich. I got the turkey/bacon and my bf got the sausage one. Bacon was good and slightly fatty and the bun/brioche bread was really poofy! After an hour or so of conversation with my bf's family and friends, we then shared an almond fragipange cookie (thiccc and moist) and a blueberry coffee cake slice. Both were great! We had the coffee cake at his home and enjoyed the cookie at the cafe. The cookie was just like the cookies from the famous Levain cookie chain. These are the kind of cookies you can only have infrequently because they are so high calories, but boy, they are delish! I already followed Caffe Capriccio on Instagram so I can keep track of limited time drinks and desserts! I'll be moving to this area next year to be with my boyfriend and am happy to say that we will definitely be back!

I don't view this as an actual coffee shop but more of a quick service establishment. The pastry proportions sometimes disappoint me because they are more expensive than they should. I got their unsweetened matcha once and was terribly disappointed. I honestly couldn't taste the matcha. I think that ABP in Hesburgh library serves better coffee, and it's worth the short walk over there.

The smoothies are pretty good. I think I've had the Orange Sunrise and the Bangin' Berry. I'll probably try more, but of those two, the Orange Sunrise is better, hands down. I've never had breakfast here, but they do offer Quorn substitutes for anything that comes with chicken, so there are plenty of vegetarian options for a place with such a limited menu to start with. It's located in the Duncan Student Center, which is the building they attached to the west side of the football stadium. The cafe is near the north entrance. There's lots of seating, but some of the stools are annoying tall ones, which seem to be all the rage these days, even though they're uncomfortable. The good thing about the tall stools is that they have these special metal baskets at the bottom so that you have somewhere to put all your junk while you're eating. I can see this coming in handy when the weather's bad, which it often is in South Bend; you don't have to sit against your wet and/or cold coat.

I was in a hurry to get to work, so as soon as the waitress said they had Sloppy Joe's for the daily special I immediately said "Fine, I'll have one". 15 minutes later I got my sammich and fries. The first thing I noticed was they were a little stingy with the meat. This Sloppy Joe cost $6.00 and the bun was ALMOST covered with meat. The next thing I noticed were the INCREDIBLY GREASEY fries! I picked one up and it was mushy and SATURATED with grease/oil. (see photo) ALL of the fries were soaked through and though with oil and not a crispy fry among them! I ate one and left the rest on the plate. Another customer sitting across the counter from me saw me wagging the mushy fry like a wet noodle and I heard him tell his friend "Maybe we better NOT get the fries"- GOOD ADVICE! The waitress must have sensed better than to ask me "How was everything?" as I paid the bill. The Sloppy Joe didn't taste bad- but it sure wasn't worth $6.00- and the fries were inedible. With a Coke the entire bill came to $9.01, about $4.00 too much in my opinion. I doubt very much that I will visiting Jennie's anytime soon again.
