I purchase my first VW in 2013 (1973 Westfalifa), after driving it home, I notice that the…read moretransmission was leaking, and there was also a few electrical issues. Knowing nothing about VWs at the time, I did a quick Google search for VW shops in my area, and Vintage VW was one of the most highlighted results, so I gave them a call, and they came and towed the vehicle that week. The following week, they did a general inspection and Rick emailed me the results. I agreed to pay for the work, so they started on their "3 phase plan". So about a year later, and over 3k spent, it was finally ready to be picked up, however, when I got there, it actually wasn't ready (engine wasn't even installed). I waited for two hours for them to get it ready, but while I was waiting Rick said something really odd to me. He said something along the line of how "old vehicles sometime just won't work", which is something you don't wanna hear from the mechanic you just gave $3,700 to. About 13 minutes after driving the VW off the lot, the engine lost power and was smoking. They came and towed it for me, but the guy (one of the sons) who came to help didn't have much to say about the breakdown. Later I found out that the engine was poorly installed with bolts missing, and that play cause the flywheel to break and input shaft to be bent. Since I already paid them $1k just for "phase 1" to do the engine bay, I decided to switch shops, I had them take it down to a shop located in Woodstock, the owner is a family friend and he agreed to look at it for me. Frank (new mechanic) pretty much told me that I had gotten screwed, based off of his inspections and seeing the Invoices. I was way overcharged for the work, and that most of the work was done poorly, or not all. Last time I spoke to Rick I got the impression he never worked on my Westfalia, that he had his garage monkeys work on it, and some of them looked under aged! I had my trust betrayed and my ignorance taken advantage of. Going there will be one of my biggest regrets of my life.

A huge THANK YOU to Ian, and staff at Vintage VW, for such amazing care of my sweet girl. I can't…read moretell you how much I appreciate your understanding, passion, hard work and love you put into every vehicle that comes your way.

CHAPTER 2 This is an…read moreupdate for the incomplete review posted on 12/04/25. It has come to light after step 2, that Roland Tires did not attempt to deceive me regarding a needed rear brake job. I visited the store with the owner [Mark Roland and his service manager this morning to compare the rear brake pads with the remaining life according to the Lou Sabb Honda. Upon removing the wheels a visual review promptly revealed that the drive side rear brakes had approximately 1MM of life remaining, as was originally repprted. At Honda on 12/04 I was told and given fresh paper work reporting that there was 6MM of pad life left in both back wheels [2 inside and 2 outside pads] The visual inspection today disputes that and I have photos to substantiate it. A visit with Honda is scheduled for 12/11 to inquire why false reports was given twice! They send me out on the road with dangerously worn rear brakes TWICE! Bottom line, I am asking that the original complaint I authored on this site be ignored since it was incorrect in the final analysis. I further request that my advisement of Roland's doubtful trustworthiness be ignored. I was wrong, and I am looking into the trustworthiness of Lou Sabb Honda NOW! Thank you, Mark Roland Regrettably, Paul G. Jasper
