I purchase my first VW in 2013 (1973 Westfalifa), after driving it home, I notice that the transmission was leaking, and there was also a few electrical issues. Knowing nothing about VWs at the time, I did a quick Google search for VW shops in my area, and Vintage VW was one of the most highlighted results, so I gave them a call, and they came and towed the vehicle that week. The following week, they did a general inspection and Rick emailed me the results. I agreed to pay for the work, so they started on their "3 phase plan". So about a year later, and over 3k spent, it was finally ready to be picked up, however, when I got there, it actually wasn't ready (engine wasn't even installed). I waited for two hours for them to get it ready, but while I was waiting Rick said something really odd to me. He said something along the line of how "old vehicles sometime just won't work", which is something you don't wanna hear from the mechanic you just gave $3,700 to. About 13 minutes after driving the VW off the lot, the engine lost power and was smoking. They came and towed it for me, but the guy (one of the sons) who came to help didn't have much to say about the breakdown. Later I found out that the engine was poorly installed with bolts missing, and that play cause the flywheel to break and input shaft to be bent. Since I already paid them $1k just for "phase 1" to do the engine bay, I decided to switch shops, I had them take it down to a shop located in Woodstock, the owner is a family friend and he agreed to look at it for me. Frank (new mechanic) pretty much told me that I had gotten screwed, based off of his inspections and seeing the Invoices. I was way overcharged for the work, and that most of the work was done poorly, or not all. Last time I spoke to Rick I got the impression he never worked on my Westfalia, that he had his garage monkeys work on it, and some of them looked under aged! I had my trust betrayed and my ignorance taken advantage of. Going there will be one of my biggest regrets of my life. read more

Charged me $2500+ for new cylinder head install on a beetle. Bolts were loose and had a spark plug fly out while driving. Had to bring the car back multiple times because it was never running right, and they'd keep charging me to fix something that was never done right to begin with. Would not recommend. read more

Not happy with service. We understand things happen, but didn't expect additional damage to our bus when we picked it up with no e,plantation. I felt there was something weird going on over the last few weeks. Now, it makes sense. Saw work on others and was impressive. Not sure what happened here. Owner is a nice guy. So not sure why the deception regarding damage that mist likely was an accident. Looks like someone rammed the front. The emblem is half missing as well as a huge indentation and a huge gash. Not sure how in the world he thought we would not notice. read more

Brake Booster line not secured, melted to engine, no power assist to front brakes. Rear brakes not adjusted at all ( Adjusters Completely Bottomed Out)! No front no rear no problem! Told them my wife would be operating. Charged for new fuel pump, got a old one that leaked. Throttle cable was tangled with gas line and not working properly. Leaking wheel cylinders. Severed bolts that hold on CV axle, only three of six present, CV parts all over the road. Paid for engine rebuild w new seals, the engine blows oil like the deep water horizon. And on and on and on..... If these folks are mechanics, then i"m an English Major! read more
