Had a pleasant experience here today. It was my first time trying this spot and I'm happy I found it! I got a beef burrito (no pico de gallo or sour cream, added salsa verde). It was sooo good and a large portion. Very flavorful and the salsa verde added the perfect amount of spice. My boyfriend got the birria tacos. He has come here a few times and said they weren't has good as they consistently were in the past, but the sauce to dip in was delicious. Clean inside and quick service. Cozy, multi latina cuisine spot that provides welcoming service, warm atmosphere and stellar dishes! They are BYOB which is nice they provide chilled glassware. Clean and minimal wait times. Their pastor tacos are great! Heartily filled! Tried their chicharron ceviche which tasted like a summer beach treat! One of the best spots in the neighborhood! Delectable and diverse pan-Latin menu. We enjoyed our chiles rellenos ("stuffed jalapeños") and pechuga a la Colombiana which were quite good. The horchata is amazing and delicious! I also loved the chicharron which was freshly hot & crispy though it was mostly fat over lean. Yuca fries I've had better - it wasn't well-seasoned - so a bit disappointing, but came with a mojito-garlic dipping sauce. Service was good though we were the only ones there on a sleepy weekday night. I'm wary of menus that try to pull off too much (like multi-ethnic Asian food menus which are almost always mediocre in every category), so not everything is as authentic as can be, but this was not bad and we wouldn't mind returning when we are in the area. I have to say the receipt was confusing as there's a 4% presumptive credit card charge added (which you can deduct if you're paying by cash) + a 15% automatic gratuity no matter the party size. I tip at least 20% so no problem, we paid cash on the full bill and rounded up, but it was annoying having to figure out what we actually owed before the 19% "surcharge" was slapped on. It just felt deliberately misleading. So make sure to look over your bill. read more

Sadly, the service here isn't the best--I've given them several chances. The food is decent, though. My favorites are the lomo and the shrimp mofongo. I've recommended it to others who ended up hating it, but for me, it's okay--not exactly something to write home about. read more

An in town place that we like. Service is always good and friendly. We were the only people in the place on this night as it was about 8 pm. We had the guacamole with chicharron on top for an appetizer. It was delicious but I'm sorry way overpriced. I believe it was 19 or 20 dollars. Come on. The tacos are delicious and one of my favorites here. Sandra had a traditional Colombian dish with beef in a brown sauce. Very flavorful and tender. This place has some great options for various Latin American cuisine. I loved the flavors and the portions were decent. The decor and ambiance are where it's at though, although I'll miss the old Mexican place selenitas that used to be here but they really overhauled the location and it looks spacious. I have enjoyed the food and often pick up take out food, but yesterday I have to believe the cooks were not the same and something went totally wrong. We ordered appetizers and other items and feel strongly that the food was not up to the level we have received previously. The meat in the tacos, flautas and other items were simply not fresh --recalentados! No good. Empanadas seemed okay, Nachos and Vaca Frita were also not as usual... sad ... very sad! Was looking for something different (out of the usual area, anyway) and found Jardin Latino here on yelp. My wife saw Yuca Fritas on the menu and she was IN! The restaurant is a smaller store-front place on the main drag going through Pompton Plains. It's nicely done and very clean inside (restroom as well) and the waitress was amazingly helpful and super friendly. We were both "haven't eaten all day" famished, so we may have over-ordered: shrimp and avacado ceviche (fabulous- so much food) an order of nachos with beef (so so- sort of... ehhhh) and of course, an order of Yuca Frita (yuca French fries) which my wife gobbled down in no time flat! I ordered the Mahi fish tacos- very nice- and my wife got the Lomo Saltado (Peruvian dish) which was a huge portion and enough to bring home. Between the 2 of us- and all the apps and entrees- it was just over $100 with a healthy and well-deserved tip. read more

We picked up dinner here the other day. For the most part the food was tasty but the lost stars for a few things : 1. We were told 45 mins to pick up our order. We got there at 45 mins and had to wait another 35 mins for our 3 meals 2. My order of fajitas came with chicken, peppers & onions. That's it. No tortillas. No sour cream. No cheese. No salsa. Nothing. And I paid $15 for that. When I called about the missing items they apologized and said I could come back and pick up the items which I declined Will I got back again ? Maybe..the food we had was tasty. But honestly there are a ton of Latin restaurants in the area that do a better job. read more

Just tried this place for the first time and overall a good experience. Stopped in during lunch hours and dinned in, food came out pretty fast which is good. The menu features all types of spanish cuisine from Mexican to columbian and Peruvian to Dominican. I ordered the Steak and Onions with white rice and beans, it was very good. Rice was fluffy and fresh. The beans had good flavor. The steak also was cooked perfectly. My only complaint was probably the price of the dish. Sorry this isn't positive support of a local business but a few reasons I would not go back. The empanadas I was served tasted of slightly rancid beef. The ropa vieja mofongo was served nearly cold. Nor did it taste anything close to freshly made. (My guess, it was from the freezer or fridge and microwaved). The bill was presented with a credit card surcharge. I paid cash but i had to do the math myself to exclude it. And a mandatory 18% tip was also on the bill (for two people). The waiter was pleasant and the service was good - but there was hardly any other customers in the restaurant and the diet soda taken from the refrigerator display was warm. read more

Called restaurant next day and girl that answered rudely asked why didnt she call them then on Easter and was very dismissive. After eating here a bunch of times, I can honestly say this place is great. Latin fusion at it's best. Menu is divided up by country which is great to find what you're looking for quickly. Poor management. Doesn't know how to honor a reservation for only a party of 4. Looked for parking, arrived 10 minutes late and apparently that's the Grace period but NOONE tells you that when you make the reservation. They make up rules as they go. At the same time, another party arrived after us and they had the same exact reservation time. Staff was completely unprofessional and rude. Instead of pointing fingers, how about work on keeping customers. They didn't know what they were doing. I been to other restaurants where they know how to handle the situation accordingly, you honor a reservation or accommodate. Second time here, what a shame. This place lost customers. read more

I cannot say enough about this little gem. I do not normally write reviews, but, felt a need to support this amazing Columbian/Peruvian Restaurant on the main drag in Pompton Lakes. You will NOT be disappointed. We go numerous times a month and have always had the most delicious suppers. My husband LOVES their Steak Fajitas. I highly recommend the beef nachos, beef mofonghitos as well. Oh, and it will be hard, but try to save room for dessert, the CHURROS are out of this world. It is a BYOB and ever so cute in side.
