I love how this little section of the Tri-Taylor area has this gem in the neighborhood! Jarabe is legit good Mexican food. Their meats are well marinated and spiced and taste great in any form whether it's a torta, burrito, or taco. I tend to veer towards their tacos more because they have $2 taco Tuesdays and $2 horchata that is a huge crowd pleaser! My favorite taco of theirs is the el pastor (remember to ask for pineapple with it!) and birria (lamb). Their tacos can stand on their own but the homemade salsas really help put it over the top earning it 5 stars. There are 3 types of salsa of varying spice levels to accommodate every taste. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! Unfortunately their home location is closed due to a fire. However, they have a shortened menu at the new Revival Food Hall in the medical district. Please support them in the food hall because this place is truly amazing! We enjoyed everything about our experience -- from the staff to the food. The man who took our order was so nice, answered all our questions about allergies, and even gave us samples of their house-made drinks (highly recommend the hibiscus lemonade - very refreshing!). They mostly serve tacos at this location -- each order comes with 2 tacos. We ordered the beef tacos and fish tacos (4 in total) and it was plenty for us to share. They made the corn tortillas in-house and cooked them straight on the grill for us, which makes for a nice crisp. The beef was extremely flavorful and had a bit of a kick, but nothing unbearable. We loved the battered cod with the cabbage and chipotle mayo. All delicious flavors and we loved them both. Highly recommend. In addition to the tacos, we got some chips and guacamole to start. Loved their guacamole. We also got a box of churros for dessert. They were very sweet and doughy but what I liked about them was how small they were, so it's easier to eat and share. I love birria tacos and I have finally found a place close by that makes awesome ones. I just wish they come with cheese and I wish they came with slightly more meat, but I am not complaining! These are amazing as they are already. The dipping sauce is very very good as well. I personally love their fish taco as well. I used to get food from Jarabe's Abuelita truck years ago in RN. It was always more delicious than you could imagine from a truck and the chef/owner was always so nice and friendly. Jarabe was always on my list and I just hadn't made it over despite it being less than a 10 minute drive. Finally made it and glad I did. I ordered through their site for pick up and the food was ready when I got there. Jarabe did not disappoint and Im so glad I made it over. Guac & Chips - So good! Many times when I order guac and chips, something is off. The chips aren't salted, or the guac isn't tasty. Both were perfect and I liked that the order could be guac and chips for 1 or 2 depending on what else you get. About the size of what you get when you order a guac from Chipotle. FINALLY got to try this place after hearing so much about it. I had 2 tacos Al Pastor taco that was good. Meat was flavorful, however nothing spectacular. Carne Asada taco WAS spectacular. This used to be my favorite spot. It has moved and it has changed. I found them at their new location and ordered a burrito bowl online. I picked up my bowl and it was awful. The delicious flavors that I loved so much are no longer there. My bowl tasted like it had ginger in it and I got mostly cabbage and very little rice or black beans. The shrimp had no flavor. Incredible. Absolutely incredible. My friends and I ordered an array of items from the menu. I personally had the steak tacos / rice and beans. It was all really fire. I saw a couple eating burrito bowls while I was ordering and got tempted to order one because of how amazing they looked. I coincidentally met the owner during my visit and he was very down to earth, accommodating and enthused about serving my buddies and I. I love that. You can tell a lot about a Mexican restaurant by their salsas. If you try out a new spot and they have bunk salsas, put ur tail between your legs and accept the fact that you're about to have a mediocre meal. Not at JARABE! They served me up 4 different salsas with my homemade tortilla chips. All of which had entirely different textures and flavor profiles, my taste buds and mind were both blown at the same time. I had the chilaquiles verdes and sampled three different types of tacos that sounded mouth watering. Results were as great as expected! The chicken was juicy and full of flavor and he chips had a great crunchy but not too hard texture. Chips come with three different types of dipping sauce which offer the pallet three variations of spicy flavoring. I am yet to try a single thing on this menu that didn't completely hit the spot (even the vegetarian food is phenomenal)! My very favorites are the chorizo breakfast tacos, and ANYTHING with the chicken Tinga. All of the meats and vegetables are cooked perfectly, expertly seasoned, and served up in any vessel that wets for whistle (I'm taking to you, burrito bowl ladies). Not many people get to make it over to this area, being closer to the VA and farther from university village but this little restaurant is the bomb! My gf lives close by and we heard they served breakfast tacos here at jarabe. It's definitely a little nook with odd hours, but the food is fantastic and the complimentary chips they serve you look deep fried, are extra flaky and wonderful with accompanying salsas. All the tacos here are under $3 and they are some of the meatiest and most packed I've ever had. The al pastor here was tasty and was prepared with small pineapple chunks for sweetness. The tender carne asada came in large chunks but was a little lacking in the salt. I found that weird because the carne asada breakfast taco, which looked the exact same as the regular carne asada taco, but with egg and cheese was so much better. After seeing the good reviews I decided to try it, ordered a steak torta and a quesobirria dinner and it was all disappointing. The torta steak was cut in huge chunks. The quesobirria tacos were very soggy, as if they were just doused with the consume, they looked like wet laundry. The overall taste of the food was very bland. Being Latino I was very disappointed and certainly not recommending this restaurant to anyone I know. The guy said there wasn't any remaining, so he could not sell us any. No problem - we ordered other kinds of tacos and burritos - but, as we waited, he decided to cook up a new batch just for the inconvenience and for us to try. Solid gesture for sure. I was stunned not only by the mushrooms, but also with how the other flavors came together to form the taco/burrito. We've been back since, and each time we return, we try different toppings/types. None have disappointed. The team is always very friendly, patient, and clearly loves what they do on a daily basis.
