Fantastic Experience for Our Group Event! I recently organized an after-work event for 20 people at Japango, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! From the very beginning, Manager Hayden was incredible to work with. He coordinated everything with me by email and phone, was responsive and accommodating, and made excellent recommendations for our set menu. He truly had all the bases covered--beef, chicken, vegetarian options, and, of course, mountains of amazing sushi! Everything was delicious, and the service was outstanding. We also added a birthday celebration, which the team handled with ease and made feel special. Even some of our non-sushi lovers commented afterward about how great the food was! The event room was fantastic, and everyone loved the jellyfish tank--it was such a fun and unique touch. A huge thank you to Hayden and the entire Japango team for making our event such a success. So glad we found this place as our go to sushi spot has been going downhill lately. Japango has a really cool vibe in the restaurant with a jellyfish tank. The sushi bar is in the back of the restaurant with seating available. Our server was great, since it was our first time in she did go over the different menus for us. We ordered; Crispy Brussels Sprouts - these were really good and have a slight kick of spice to them. Would definitely order again. Miso soup - good flavors but neither of us had any tofu pieces. Two salmon hand rolls - really tasty! Would order again. Hawaiian/rainbow roll - loved this roll, the California roll inside was really good and the fish on top was fresh and tasted great. Montana Roll - this was so tasty! Some restaurants will use a torch for beef on sushi and that's all you can taste but that wasn't the case here and the whole roll was really good. California Roll - we were still hungry and ordered this and their cali crab mix is really great! We also got a pot of the Lady earl grey and it was really good. You do get a lot of tea from the pot and we wanted to take a to go cup with the rest of it but they don't have hot to go cups, which was a bummer. Like many of you will do, I ignored a lot of the red flag reviews because of the ambiance and hope of good sushi in FoCo. And like many of you will do, I left feeling like I won't need to go back. The food is fine, but they're trying too hard to be upscale. With small portions at high prices, you can get away with it if the food is absolutely amazing, but missed that part; it was just fine. We got some sashimi moriawase, but the server didn't bother telling us what was what-- but disappointingly, she didn't have to because there were only three VERY THINLY sliced kinds of fish. (See pic) We also ordered the lobster potsticker (don't call it a potsticker if the bottom is not seared, it's just a dumpling.) which was mid, as the kids say... Definitely not a cheap place to go, but the quality here is amazing! I've been twice so far - sat at the bar both times. Service the second time was incredibly attentive and I enjoyed a few things off the happy hour menu - a glass of house red, the hamachi jalapeño (so fresh and savory) and then the Gilded Bee roll for $2 off. The first visit we tried the Heart's Desire which is quite similar to the Gilded Bee but with serrano chiles and sweet mayo instead of a habanero and lemon masago and black truffle honey. Both are absolutely delicious - highly recommend! I never finish an entire roll myself, but I couldn't stop until it was gone. We got the Magic Mushrooms the first visit (avocado wrapped with seared salmon, topped with dynamite sauce) and they were delicious, albeit the salmon quite fishy. We finished on the Green Tea Crème Brûlée which was OUT OF THIS WORLD, and paired it with a piping hot cup of their green tea. The first visit took a while to get acknowledged, and also about 15 minutes of us waiting to get change, but the second time more than redeemed. Came here for the first time my wife had the bento box with the salmon and it was definitely delicious. The teriyaki sauce was not too sweet. If you get a salad, remember to ask for the ginger. Sesame dressing the default seems to be some kind of a ranch which is house made but the ginger sesame is spectacular. I had the special roll Kitsune Kiss beautiful balance of flavors a little bit spicy super delicious. I would definitely get it again. Everything was fresh and clean. We will be back. read more

its rare and unfortunate that i feel the need to write a less than positive review but this is mostly to help people know our experience before spending hundreds. the good: the cocktails were delicious and worth it, the bartender special on happy hour was DELICIOUS, so kudos to the bar team. our service was really not good ( coming from people with much grace and service industry experience ) on more than one occasion when a question about something on the menu was asked she responded with "i dont dont know" instead of finding an answer. we were a group of 6 and our checks were split up wrong, which is fine stuff happens, but only 1 of the 3 couples had the automatic gratuity on (with no prior notice) which made me feel weird. the food itself was just okay, the sushi was tasty but the soup and appetizers were not good and not worth the price, and quite honestly there is better sushi in town for the prices they are charging (15-22 per roll) there was also a group of very rowdy children screaming for quite a while right next to our table, and while thats not entirely the restaurants fault it was still incredibly inappropriate and annoying. all and all, i probably would not go back, but if i do it would be for drinks at the bar. read more

Wow, Fort Collins needed a great sushi restaurant. Long overdue. So good, so fresh. Decent service. Great atmosphere, we sat on the patio to people watch. We got so much food and all was great! I got the Prickly Oasis and the Sandy Beach. Prickly Oasis was my fav out of the 2, Sandy Beach was also very good but was a little out of place - should've been drinking it on the beach. Husband got the Japango soda and enjoyed it. For apps we got miso soup, tempura veggies, seaweed salad, hamachi carpaccio, and edamame. All were really great, we even got a shrimp on the tempura veggies that was misplaced. We didn't mind! For our meal, we got Hiro, Kitsune's Kiss, Hearts Delight and one of the specials called something like When Tuna meets Scallop. Hiro and Kitsune were our absolute favs. Hearts was a close runner up. This is my favorite sushi place in Northern Colorado right now. The happy hour offers $2 off rolls plus other specials on drinks and small plates so that is when we try to go. I love the spicy tuna roll, the gilded bee roll as well as the one that features kobe beef. The service has been excellent. I also get Vegas vibes inside - the classy kind - with their sleek furnishings and the cylindrical jellyfish tank that really makes a statement. We came tonight to celebrate our anniversary and Valentine's Day and all I have to say is although there is a little bit of a wait to receive your food if you can be patient, the wait is WORTH it. Went here for lunch with colleagues a week or so ago. The sushi was very good, as always, but the service was beyond slow. One colleague got a tempura shrimp box lunch after about 15 minutes. The sushi for the other three of us didn't arrive for another 35 minutes. The manager apologized for the wait which was nice and agreed to reduce our tab. When we got the bill, he had discounted our lunch by 10%. I found that to be quite inadequate. Before I give my review this is more for the owners than the general public. I know you have only been open for about a month, but you need to hear this feedback so you might consider adjusting your business model. First off I travel extensively. I am a foodie and a chef and well versed in sushi and sashimi. In fact, I won't eat sushi in my hometown as it is substandard in my opinion. As far as the quality of the food you have that nailed. It's probably the freshest sushi other than Uchi in Denver. The reasons for the two stars is due to the ambiance and service. Being our first time eating here we were a party of six. We were sat in the middle room to the right that has the glass walls. This is the first problem. Inside the regular main seating area the dinner guest noise is acceptable. Inside that glass room the noise is extremely unacceptable. I would guess a decibel rating in excess of 100. It was so bad our waitress could not hear us. By the time the room filled up with other guests I had to put tissue paper in my ears to ease the pressure. In effect, those glass walls create an echo chamber. We could tell that it's annoying to your wait staff as well. Please consider cutting those glass walls to a half wall to relieve the sound pressure. If I eat here again I will definitely request not to be anywhere near those rooms on the right. As far as the service I want to be fair to our server. Given the difficulty hearing she may not have heard, although she said she did, but then again the pressure in the room makes it difficult for the wait staff to function. I ordered the sashimi ultimate and requested no salmon as my wife doesn't care for salmon. We were told this would be possible. When the food arrived there was salmon. I pointed it out and she said she would take it back, but our orders were so scrambled I told her it was fine and to leave it. I didn't want to cause anymore chaos. In addition to the salmon there was a cucumber hand roll on the sashimi plate. I order sashimi because I do not care for hand rolls or white rice. Given the cost of the ultimate sashimi plater I was very disappointed to see a hand roll. Not good. As I said we were a party of six. Two sets of three on one tab. We filled out two menu requests and they were both handed in at the same time. However, the plates came out mixed up and hellter skelter. Part of our party could eat while the rest had to wait at least 10 more minutes. Very awkward. Last but not least your bartender and drink expeditor need more training. We ordered an appetizer with our drinks. The appetizer came, but no drinks. By the time the drinks arrived the appetizer was gone as we had sufficed to drink the water. In addition, you appear not to have enough cocktail glasses. We ordered some nice, expensive cold saki and part of our group got glasses the size of thimbles while others got a glasses the size of a whisky rocker. My feedback may seem harsh, but I am just being honest. You were not busy this night. The restaurant was only half full so there should be no justification for the hectic dinner. We dropped some serious coin on that dinner and it was not an enjoyable experience. In closing I will reiterate that the sushi and sashimi were extremely fresh. The sushi here is great and the overall ambience is really well done (particularly for Fort Collins, which lacks higher end options). The front of house really struggles in terms of speed, hospitality, and overall attention to detail. We went midweek and the restaurant was less than half full. Somehow, it took 30 minutes to get drinks and over 2 hours to finish dinner for 2 of us. We were there 1 hour & 20 minutes before getting our sushi. Definitely needs to get dialed in. read more
