charming and historic carousel in brooklyn bridge park! the tickets are cheap and it was a lot of fun (for an adult's inner child, too). You can see the water and manhattan skyline as you go, and it usually isn't too crowded during the week or in the winter (it still runs -- it just has the clear doors drawn). highly recommend stopping by this spot

$3 for an adult ticket. What a treat. Empire Fulton Ferry area. Right by Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. There's an indoor food court and restaurants nearby.

This is such a beautiful carousel by the waterfront. You can see the "box" when walking towards Brooklyn on the Brooklyn Bridge. The carousel is encased in a glass pavilion cube, so it will not be affected by the elements and people can see it. It was built in 1922 and in 1984, it was restored to its original colors and wood carvings of the 48 horses. It brings such nostalgia. The ticket is $2. I didn't get on it but I watched and the music played was from Mary Poppins. Really a piece of art and old world charm to bring back childhood memories of getting on a carousel.

I went on Jane Carousel day which was a free for all day and only lands one day of the year. The line was pretty quick at most 15-20 min wait and the ride was 3 minutes long. The only think I didn't like was that some of the middle horses didn't go up and down so I really had to figure out which middle horse does that for my toddler to enjoy it as she didn't like the ones that didn't move. Lucky we were able to do this multiplied times so she was able to enjoy it. Very nice view outside and there is also a food court nearby.

Never too old for a carousel. Super cool carousel and you can't beat the price. Incredible views of Brooklyn. Worth it.

This was the most fun i had in such a long time! I've been dying to come to the carousel, so it was nice to see that it was right outside of the time out market. It was freezing this day, so there was no line, and it was pretty much empty. The tickets were $2 for admission to ride, and you got your pick of whichever horse. The views was breathtaking! Omg! The carousel takes you around a couple of times at a nice pace. Mask Are required to ride. It took about 3-5 mins all together. I felt like a kid again lol. So much fun. You're never too old to ride a carousel. Highly recommend if you haven't been. I can only imagine how packed it gets during warmer months. See pics below

We took our grandson here to ride this landmark carousel housed inside a tall, square, bright glass enclosure with the magnificent Manhattan skyline and a gorgeous setting sun serving as back drop. What a picturesque setting! Since a child under 42" + 1 adult chaperone share one ticket at $2, it's a real bargain. The beautifully restored, well-maintained wood carved horses and carriages (built in 1922 per date etched on pavement nearby) looked marvelous. Bright, happy smiles on the faces of children, and grownups alike illuminated this special space.

It was closed today. Not sure if it's because of covid or what but they should update their hours. I was hoping to take the kids and mom on a carousel ride. Either way the view of the Brooklyn bridge and Manhattan bridge and east river as well as the NYC skyline are amazing.

David and Jane Walentas were two of the nastiest human beings that I have ever met. They had more unscrupulous business deals than I would like to mention. My review however is about the carousel, not David and Jane. Jane's Carousel is a hidden gem that is nestled in between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge's on the Brooklyn waterfront. The carousel was built in the 1940's and was painstakingly restored by a team of artisans fifteen years ago. To get there take the A train to the High Street station, or use a Citibike. The fee is only two dollars, and it is a very nice ride. The view's of the East River and Manhattan are spectacular as well.

When it only costs "two bucks to pony up," then you know you've got the best deal in town. Jane's Carousel was perfect. It was easily accessible, offers scenic views, the line moves quickly so short wait times, and there is stroller/scooter parking. As a child, I enjoyed my trips to Coney Island so it feels great to share a childhood memory with the next generation. My son was captivated by the beauty of the horses and loved the ride. No fear, no tears! He already put me on notice that he wants to come back for another lap. I appreciate the staff's efforts to sanitize after every ride to keep riders safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It is certainly great to see Brooklyn slowly come back to life.

Rumor has it that Jane has restored this carousel and boy am I glad she did. Wonderful lady redeeming childhoods across the Big Apple. For $2 you can take a trip down memory lane, well worth it. If you think you're too old for this, you're holding yourself back, just let it go. read more

Such a beauty. Every time I go to Brooklyn Bridge Park, I'm always taken by how gorgeous the design of this restored carousel is. The glass casing around it is sleek and the perfect complement to make the ride possible rain or shine. At just $2, it's about as inexpensive NYC can get and it offers an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline. Grab a picnic blanket and lounge on the nearby lawns afterwards for a great afternoon out! read more

How can you give this place less than 5 stars? People might ask what's so great about a carrousel? Well what isn't? First of all you cant beat paying $2 bucks, also location location location, its Dumbo and the view to the city it's amazing. I had my engagement pictures taken in this area and they came out pretty jazzy and it holds a special place to my heart as well. I take out of towners here and they all seem to appreciate the beauty of it. Parking could take a couple of minutes but i have my spots. Every time i have been here there is always a wedding happening and it makes the experience even sweeter. Next time you have some time to kill head out to Dumbo and experience the magic... I sound like a commercial but in all honesty you wont be disappointed, enjoy. read more

Such a dream. My dad and his siblings rode this carousel when they were just kiddies back in Youngstown, OH. My aunt forwarded me a video about it, and I knew I had to go see (and ride!) for myself. What a treat it was! Located in Brooklyn Bridge Park between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, Jane's Carousel really is the most special piece of the entire park. Make sure to check their Twitter and website for hours (hours change by season, and there is a chance it could be closed for the day for a commercial shoot!). You couldn't ask for a better view during a quick ride to feel like a kid again. This really was one of the most special moments of my life. Thank you!!! read more

WOW! A completely restored vintage carousel sitting in DUMBO. This place is absolutely amazing and is sure to delight any child (and most adults as well). The see through shelter they have built to house the ride is a perfect way to preserve this masterpiece. I am so glad the powers that be bought this this ride in its entirety and decided to spend the time and effort to restore it to perfection. These days it is almost impossible to find a fully intact carousel as the individual components have become collectible items with the horses usually find themselves separated from their counterparts and sitting as display pieces in someone's home. Thank god that didn't happen here. You can't help but be brought back to fun childhood memories when watching the carousel do its thing. If it doesn't bring an instant smile to your face, you may want to check yourself into the doctor for a quick examination because you might have a lump of coal for a heart! Seriously please check this carousel out. Its a very welcome piece of the revitalization of Brooklyn's waterfront. I hope it remains for the enjoyment of generations to come. read more

You need to visit and ride this Dreamy, Beautiful Painstakingly Restored 1922 Philadelphia Toboggan Company Carousel with carvings by master carvers John Zalar and Frank Carretta and housed in an Acrylic Pavilion designed by renowned French Architect Jean Nouvel. Jane and David Walentas spent years lovingly restoring it. The carousel was and is a work of art. Fantastic Date or an Afternoon/Evening Stroll. Plenty of nice restaurants in the area! I love great Carousel's and this one is magical. read more

Beautiful Carousel. Stunning, and thankfully not damaged much by Sandy! The glass enclosure is great! You can ride it rain or shine. Plus the ride is only $2, which is a great deal for NYC in general. (To compare, the Cyclone costs $8). The only real downside right now is that their original organ was damaged during Sandy so they are using a stereo right now. That said, I am sure they will have repaired ASAP and the whole carousel will be restored to its former glory! I have to go back and ride this when in the summer. A NY Gem. Take your out of town visitors, they won't be sorry! read more

Our family visited the carousel (and DUMBO) for the first time today. What a beautiful area and beautifully renovated carousel! It's a fun mixture of combining old and new styles between the old carousel and the much more modern, airy shelter that protects it from the elements. And super cheap -- I took my 4 year old and my 6 year old and only had to get a $2 ticket for one of them...nice! We (and family visiting from Boston) liked it so much we rode it twice. Oh, and one tip: today when we were there, we weren't asked to escort our 3-4 year olds on the carousel, despite the sign that says a paying adult needs to ride with the little ones. The staff were very kind and helped our younger ones get on their horses. I also recommend the adjacent playground -- our kids absolutely loved it with its ship theme and all. For a fun finish to a family outing here, you might want to check out One Girl Cookies, which is just around the corner. Our kids devoured the "Spiky" purple and orange cupcakes! read more

It's a carousel. It does exactly what you think it will do with no surprises. I can't say with any certainty this one was 'better' or even much different from the many others I've been on in my lifetime. You already know if you'll enjoy it or if you're a childhood-fun-hating robot. But Brooklyn was getting on my nerves today [yes, the entire borough]. And this little carousel managed to be the one thing that went right. It gave me a break from all the scowling and exasperated sighing I was so preoccupied with. Was it the beautiful views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges? The enclosure the carousel is housed in, giving a welcome and fancy respite from the heat? The tickets that look like carousel trading cards? The cheerful women working there, one of whom even complimented my shirt? Riding a horse in heels while taking silly pictures of my friend next to me? Or maybe that for less than the price of a single ride Metrocard, this journey to nowhere was more fulfilling than all my subway/bus rides of the day combined. read more

$2 to pony up! I love that they've relocated the carousel right by the water front. Putting it in an enclosed space made of glass protects you from the elements while allowing you to enjoy the view. read more

What an amazing spot for a carousel. This carousel is literal right on the water so it has untouchable views of down town manhattan. The carousel itself is actually fully enclosed so you can enjoy it rain or shine. Nice spot to visit with kids and girlfriends (same diff) read more

How can this place not deserve my five stars rating? Friendly staff and a wonderful first experience, that's all I can ask for! Love walking by and riding the carousel. I haven't rode one in a long time and this definitely brought back childhood memories. Next time, I will go on a moving one! Before starting the carousel, the staff gives a brief description of how this carousel existed in the first place. Just perfect in every way. Kids will love it and it brings out the kid in adults. I can't believe how much fun I was having on that carousel at the most awesome location a carousel could be. Such a picturesque location, almost reminiscent of a fantasy setting. Jane's carousel appears to almost be floating on the water. A beautiful place to take the family to have fun and let go of your inner child or also a wonderful place to bring a date and fall in love. Prices are very reasonable & affordable. The line never seems to be more than a 10 minute wait (if that). And it gives me the warm fuzzies to know this carousel is one that was saved from it's former home and restored to where it plays in all it's glory today. read more

I can't believe this place was surrounded by water. You can't tell right now. There was some damage done but the ride still works. This is the second time in my adult life on a carousel and it was cute and a nice time. I did feel a little weird being an adult without a child with me but I still enjoyed myself. read more

Ok, a CAT loving a HORSE? YASSSSSSS!!! This is the BEST ride in Brooklyn EVER! I loved the fact that it is close to the water and the carousel has glass doors around it! I love the whole look of it as it makes you feel like you are somewhere else! I rode the HORSES round and round again and again... sure, my tail got stuck on one of the pedals but that didn't even matter. PLEASE support Jane's Carousel... we don't have many wonderful places like this anymore... and our kids NEED to be kids just a little while longer and this is the place to be a KID!!! Or a CAT trying to be a KITTEN again!!!! read more

This carousel is absolutely magical. $2 for a whirl around; there are no crazy lines or crazy kids - everyone's just delighted to have a chance to experience this historic landmark. Everything is vintagey and gently beautiful. The horses on the inside move up & down; the horses on the outside don't. Do NOT get attempt to get off your horse in the middle. Have a fabulous time :) read more

For just $4 you can take yourself an your date on the ride of her life at Jane's Carousel. While it's not as exhilarating as I once thought it was, the nice breeze of the water can take you to the track - as if your wooden horse is this close to getting that bunny. Live a little and remember to bring hand sanitizer. read more

this is a classic ride for all young children. I've been here twice with the kids and it's affordable for everyone to ride. they even host parties on site! I will have to look into that as I think it's a great venue for the little ones. beautiful location with beautiful views that the whole family can enjoy. read more

On a nice, hot day such as today, it's great to walk over by the East River right near the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. Nestled right in between them is this carousel, which seems almost out of place and yet right where it's supposed to be. As part of DUMBO, you get the notion that this carousel adds to a hipster kind of feel of the area. This isn't a bad thing by any means because when you walk up to Jane's carousel, you might take a look at the tourists and little kids and their parents riding it, but for $2 you know you probably are going to ride it too. My girlfriend and I did just that and it brings out a nostalgic feel to hear the music play and spin slowly as your horse moves up and down. Look out and you'll see a beautiful view of the river and the bridges which brings the experience altogether. Overall, Jane's Carousel isn't anything out of the ordinary and could be overlooked when down in the area, but it's really worth a stop and a spin. read more

A brilliant and unique place to call Brooklyn's own! If you approach as the sun goes down, it's a downright magical experience! The music, especially with the twinkling of the lights and the bright faces of the children running up to ride it, are a welcome addition to this space. The views here are 100% NYC, so it's a great photo op if you visit, and even better if you live here like we do. Stunning at sunset, even weddings and groups getting together here now and then for photos, plus a few models here and there strutting for their photoshoots. read more

A great use of $2 while in DUMBO. You pay for your ride at the machines around the cube and hand the employee the card when boarding. Ride it at dusk when it's still bright enough to see the views of Manhattan, but also the light of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges will be on to make the sight even prettier. read more

I never quite got the offspring thing together, so the ghost of my unborn children ride in circles on Jane's magical roundabout. Poignant and beautiful it is one of New York's latter day treasures. The carousel itself is what ? 100 years old ... but this magnificent housing on the waterfront is modern, new and a perfect dream of a place to bring your children, imaginary or other wise. read more

This restored 95 year old merry-go-round is just so beautiful to look at and watch as visitors, young children and their parents ride round and round to the sound of fairground organs as their horses prance near the East River. The first model was originally installed in 1871. The Carousel is one of Central Park's most popular and famous attractions. The animals were taught to start and stop with the sound of a foot tap from the ride's operator above. The carousel installed at Central Park today is the Friedsam Memorial Carousel. It is considered one of New York City's finest examples of American folk art. It was crafted in 1908 by artisans Solomon Stein and Harry Goldstein. It features 57 hand-carved brightly caparisoned horses, two ornately embellished chariots and a mechanical organ. The structure was found in an old BMT trolley terminal at Coney Island. It was donated to Central Park by the Michael Friedsam Foundation in 1951. A ceremonial marker was placed on the exterior wall of the carousel building on the carousel's dedication day on July 2, 1951. This carousel was notably mentioned in J. D. Salinger's novel "The Catcher in the Rye" and is featured in the Marvel TV series "The Punisher" (though filming took place at the Forest Park carousel in Queens).

The Carousel itself is the main attraction of course, though there are other rides for kids that range from a train ride to a recently added mini ferris wheel dubbed the "Woodhaven Wheel." Ticket costs for the rides vary, but the last time I checked it was $35 for a 10-pack (i.e. $3.50 a ticket). The space for the carousel is for 50 people because that is how many chairs they have available. We had over 50 people there and you never felt crammed or squashed. There was SO much space. We had entertainers come and they had room to set up and put on their shows as well. They park provides 6 rectangular tables for guests to sit at as well as 3 other tables that could be used to food, gifts, favors..etc. The carousel operator ( I wish I would have remembered her name) was amazing- she was so kind and attentive and even gave the baby a t shirt! The staff working at the concession was also so helpful in letting us unload the food and drinks prior to the party start time. A special thank you to Emily who really went above and beyond to make sure everything went right. The weather was perfect too and it helps that the entire carousel section is covered so even if its hot outside, it was nice and shaded. Our guests were raving about this party for many days afterwards. We even had many native Staten Islanders who had come there for the first time. They will definitely be returning. I want to have every party there from now on. It was created to serve patrons of the 1964 New York World's Fair by combining two earlier carousels, both of which were carved in Coney Island in the first decade of the twentieth century by renowned carver Marcus Illions. The two historic carousels used for its construction were the Feltman's Carousel (1903) and the Stubbman Carousel (1908). While the 1964 World's Fair was going on, the carousel was located in the Lake Amusement Area. In 1968, the carousel was moved to its current spot which is adjacent to the Queens Zoo. In 2012, NY Carousel Entertainment was awarded the contract to operate the Flushing Meadows Carousel. The company made cosmetic repairs to the machine, repainting it, sanding and staining the historic wooden floor, and adding new fencing to the entire area. The following year, Fantasy Forest Amusement Park opened. The carousel was joined by additional rides which include the Corona Choo Choo, the Twirling Teacups, the Bouncy Baja Buggies, the Corona Cobra Coaster, and the Queens Motor Speedway. My family and I recently visited Fantasy Forest Amusement Park while we were spending the day at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. We spent the morning at the Queens Zoo and the small amusement park is conveniently located next to it. Although there aren't many rides at Fantasy Forest, the ones that they do have are very fun. We told our sons that they could pick any two rides to go on. First, they both accompanied me on the Queens Motor Speedway. My sons liked how the cars quickly zip around the corner during each course rotation. Afterwards they both accompanied my wife on the beautiful carousel. Overall we had a fun visit the Fantasy Forest and we hope to stop again on a future visit to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park!

There generally ARE people there and you will see them pass by but you can find spots where you are out of view if you want to sunbathe there. What Happened to Plum Beach?…read more Two years ago, I gave Plumb Beach five stars. It was a peaceful little Brooklyn treasure where individuals, couples and families relaxed, people walked their dogs, windsurfers enjoyed the water, and others simply came to enjoy nature. After visiting last weekend on July 28, 2026, I barely recognized it. The issue wasn't the normal sounds of people enjoying the beach. It was extremely loud amplified music from large speakers that could be heard far beyond the groups using them. A senior beachgoer objected when a massive 4'x 3' speaker, positioned only about 10 feet from him and his wife, was turned on at full blast. This couple, along with dozens of other individuals and families, had already been peacefully enjoying the beach before a group of approximately 20+ people, (including babies) arrived and set up beside them with a large tent, enormous speaker and barbecue grills. When the gentleman objected to the volume, the music was initially turned down. Shortly afterward, however, the entire group packed up their tent, speaker and belongings and relocated approximately one city block farther down the beach, near where I was sitting. They then turned the music up extremely loud again. What demonstrates just how excessive the volume was is that even after moving that considerable distance, their music could still be clearly heard back where the gentleman and his wife had been sitting. Near me, it was so loud that I couldn't hear my small personal radio sitting beside me. I watched other beachgoers become frustrated, pack up their belongings and leave what had been a peaceful beach before this group arrived. TO BE CLEAR, this is not about the type, language, or culture of the music. It could have been American, Caribbean, Chinese, Pakistani, Russian, or any other genre or language. The issue is not the music itself--it is the VOLUME. No one person's music should be so loud that everyone around them is forced to listen to it or leave. Public spaces are meant to be shared respectfully so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy them. A few days later, I returned to Plumb Beach hoping my experience had been an isolated incident. Unfortunately, what I found was even more discouraging. The area where the large gathering had been was covered with garbage. There were beer bottles (including broken glass), food containers, disposable plates and cups, plastic bags, charcoal remnants, citrus fruit, and even soiled diapers scattered throughout the sand and among the protected dune vegetation. These aren't just cosmetic issues. Broken glass creates a hazard for people, pets and wildlife, and trash left in the dunes damages one of the most environmentally sensitive parts of the beach. My concern has never been about families gathering or people enjoying themselves. It's about respecting a public beach that belongs to everyone. If you can carry coolers, grills, diapers, food, beverages, and supplies onto the beach, you can carry the empty containers and garbage back off the beach. Plumb Beach WAS one of Brooklyn's peaceful hidden treasures. I sincerely hope stronger enforcement of littering, noise, grilling, and dune protection can help restore the beach so future visitors can enjoy the natural beauty that once made this place so special.

Books and reading material are permitted. You must provide and use your own padlock. They suggest a combination lock. No Electronic equipment, including cell phones. Only white t-shirts are permitted in the water. The staff was professional and courteous. Instructors were eager to answer any questions we had, however I was disappointed because my son arrived for advanced swimming lessons and the children there were clearly not ready for advance swim lessons. The instructor said she had to give instructions based on the skill set of the group and that was basic 101. My son was bored and we gave up our coveted lottery spot to one of several children on the waiting list. I'm seriously unhappy with the instructions, but I blame that on the parents not the swim instructors. However the facility was impressive and squeaky clean.

It was a sad day when someone broke into our garage and stole it (cutting the lock and all), but I knew I'd need a new one. Even though Habitat couldn't source the bike I was looking for (we are also in the middle of a bike shortage if you didn't know!!) they were completely up for assembling one that I was able to locate myself. Picking up the bike in the middle of a pandemic was smooth with social distancing outside and proper precautions being applied. I checked in and within a few minutes my ready to go bike was brought outside so I could pedal away. They're my go to even though it's not in my hood, and it's worth it. That was only discovered after I went back multiple times and pushed for them to keep looking. It did not seem like the bike had been properly test ridden before I was told the issue was rider error. Communication was also difficult, and the overall attitude I experienced from staff felt passive aggressive rather than helpful. I was largely left on my own trying to sort out what was going on. They also replaced the wrong bolt on my saddle. When I asked about replacing the correct bolts, I was told they did not have the proper ones, and the issue was not properly resolved. After multiple visits, repeated charges, poor communication, and the real problem being missed until I pushed for further inspection, I would not return.

I was worried when I saw images of Jane's Carousel after Hurricane Sandy. It looked like the carosel would be water damaged and maybe my kids would miss out on this awesome, family friendly activity in the heart of Brooklyn. My kids love picking out their favorite horse to ride (one has his favorite; one likes to ride a different one every time.). You may think it's a fun thing to do whether or not you have kids with you, but trust me; if you try to ride and you don't have a kid, you just feel strange and a bit pervy. Maybe you could babysit a kid for a day or something if you wanted to go and you didn't have a kid. read more

I've been going to this place for over 10 years now. Not only is it located in wonderful River North, but it has consistently amazing food. It's Spanish tapas, but they also have entrees, and delicious desserts as well. The price is pretty reasonable for downtown Brooklyn, NY , and I recommend sitting on the first level for a lively multicultural atmosphere.
