Damn good steak, amazing chicken tenders, and good beer, quiet environment, and fast service.read more

My husband and sleepy toddler were in the car so I ordered a steak with veggies (asparagus) and a burger (also with asparagus on the side) to go. I sipped my beer, enjoyed watching the activity behind the bar, and occasionally looked up at the hunting show playing on tv. We were staying at a hotel and didn't have a steak knife with us, so they were nice enough to slice up the steak so it'd be easy to eat. We enjoyed our dinner and then enjoyed the final few slices of steak for breakfast. It's obvious the building and equipment have seen many years, but that fits with my expectation for a saloon in a small town in Montana. It could have been nice to find a shiny and updated space, but it wouldn't have felt quite right. I think they'll be happy to make some upgrades at some point, though. The only downside was that they forgot about me when it was time to pay. One of the bartenders (owners?) gave me my food bag but didn't have the card reader with him, so he said he'd deliver some food to a table and be right back. I then watched him take other orders, teach another bartender how to make a drink, etc. At one point the man who grabbed the seat next to me got a menu so I tried to get their attention, but they walked away without checking on me. Eventually (10+ minutes later?) I got a different bartender's attention and was able to pay. Lesson learned? Unless I'm in no hurry, don't keep the tab open (even if I am considering ordering a second beer) and just pay early.

Kinda amazing in a town of 900 in Montana in the shadow of its better known cousins (Bozeman and…read moreWest Yellowstone), Ennis Montana is home to The Continental Divide restaurant. Our meal tonight was pretty much perfect. The restaurant set back off 287 just in front of the Ennis RV Resort. Understated interior with big windows looking out on the Madison range. Not many tables so a reservation likely a good idea. Paced our service, no one rushing us. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we left around 9:30. Wonderful, seasonal menu, that proudly presents both Wagyu and Montana beef at its finest. Had a hard time making choices as there's so many items on the menu, I'd love to try. I did pass on the oysters that are flown in every day. But that was very tempting. I ended up going with the golden beet salad, which was outstanding with a raspberry vinaigrette. For my main course I couldn't help but go for the elk loin, two beautifully cooked rib on loins medium rare. Incredibly tasty and tender. For dessert we sampled the lemon cake and the flourless chocolate tart, both mouthwatering. There's a really nice wine selection that offers both by-the-glass and bottles. Amazingly found a 2017 Heitz Cellars Marthas Vineyard cab that paired up stunning with our elk and filet mignon. Entrees included tender but crisp asparagas and wonderful spaghetti squash. The food was ethereal, and the service was wonderful, always there butt not intrusive. I'm a huge fan of this place after just one visit, and trying to come up with excuses to come back.

The chef's came to everyone's table to discuss the menu and presentation of the gorgeous dishes. The lavender honey butter with the fresh bread was unique but so good. Fresh ingredients on every dish. Everything was plated well and tasted just as good. A family of antelope walked by the big window as we ate. Very cool. The menu changes often , so be sure to try all the unique fresh dishes.
