As with most Chinese restaurants, soothing flute instrumentals of popular songs are played at a low volume for customers and the tables inside are decorated with red and white tablecloths and laid out with both chopsticks and knives and forks. The menu offers all the usual curries, stir fries and starters you'd expect, but then exceeds expectations with its diverse selection of seafood dishes, all of which sound very appetising, but are sadly quite pricey. Pale, click-and-fit wooden floors and white wallpapered walls give the restaurant a sort of clinical feeling and the ambience inside definitely isn't quite up to scratch, but the staff are friendly and relaxed (they don't try to rush you out of your seat) and in my experience, the food is always of a good standard.

Seriously top notch Chinese food…read more What I ordered over 2 visits within a 4 day period... - Crispy seaweed Great little appetizer that is the perfect combo of salty sweet. Enough for 1 or 2 people max. - BBQ spare ribs NOTE: this is chinese BBQ, not American BBQ style -- so the sauce is a thick red color, that's perfectly sweet and spicy. Meat was the perfect amount of tenderness, where the meat falls off the bone, without ALL of it coming off at once. Great value, decent portion size. Enough for 1-3 people. - Duck Pancakes The name puts a lot of Americans off, but anyone who has tried this, always orders it again. I'd say 70% of the tables in the restaurant had this item... duck is really well butchered, cooked and falls straight off the bone. Plum sauce is perfect, everything perfect. So good. 1/4 duck enough for 1-2 people. - Crispy shredded beef Crispy, and sweet. Exactly what you crave when you decide it's a chinese food kinda night. I've had other versions of this where the beef strands are a little bigger, that I actually prefer, but the dish was still good. Good portion size 2-3 people - Crispy squid Salty, crispy, with sweet dipping sauce. More of the same -- another awesome dish that satisfies everything you look for in a chinese meal. Prices can run up to 20 per person for food, with approx. 1 starter and 2 entree dishes (you'll be full!)... Worth every penny and already craving it again!

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the meeting space was very good, not large, but just right for our conference and meetings. The breakfast buffet was pretty standard fare and the restaurant staff was great. Lunch at the conference was also good. The bartenders were good, but they have a very limited selection of whiskey/whisky, which was surprising. It's also a cashless hotel. There are other shops and restaurants not too far away.

On the many occasions (probably ten plus) I have been here I have never, ever, had a bad meal. All of them have been exquisite. Prices from £10 to £20 for a non-steak dish and steaks from £12 to £42, there's plenty to choose from including sirloin, fillet, rib eye and the more exclusive Chateubriand to share. Steaks are served with a salad wedge: this is a quarter of a lettuce with your choice of dressing (the garlic and parmesan is awesome). Sides include the "famous" onion loaf (amazing), crushed new potatoes (a fantastic alternative to fries), and tons of sauces including the good-as-it-sounds beef dripping. Drinks aren't too pricey but are a little on the premium side. Cocktails are £7 each (£5 before 7pm), desserts around the £5 mark, and expect a whole meal to cost around £50 per head if you're going to have a good time.

One thing to note here, you have to order at the bar to get your food and drinks put in. The beer is poured nearly perfect and the food was right what I was looking for. I was here about three years ago and it has changed a bit since then but in a good way from what I can tell so far. I'd definitely recommend stopping in here, especially if you're staying at the Village Hotel.

The decor was nice and the atmosphere was relaxed but I thought the lighting was too low. It almost felt like I was having a romantic meal! The service was good although we had to wait a while for our drinks to arrive and approximately twenty minutes for our bill. However, If the food tastes great then that's how you remember the place, right? I will defiantly remember this restaurant and come back! I ordered chicken wings with chips, which came with a salad and chicken liver skewers. The chicken liver was disgusting, as you can imagine, but I devoured the BBQ style chicken and their sweet sticky sauce made it moorish. The hand cut chips still had the skin on for more nutrition and they were lovely.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and went that little bit extra in their customer service. The decor was really interesting there was a sort of fusion between modern restaurant and old fashioned cafe. We were seated in the 'book corner' and it felt like i was on the set of Harry Potter or something, it was realluy nice and cosy. Me and a friend shared the veggie breakfast, as we were told the breakfast's are the biggest plates they do....yes breakfast at 8pm, when is not a good time to have a good ol fry up? It was alot of food for one person, so i'm glad we shared, they also kindly put all of the items with egg in it on a separate plate so as to not contaminate the rest of it, as i dont eat egg. The vegan ginger and dark chocolate tart was lovely but very rich! I'm glad I ordered a scoop of ice cream to go with it. I quite like dark chocolate as it's not too sweet but friend found it to be very bitter. All in all I would recommend it, and will be visiting again!

We visits Desco on a sunny Sunday lunch and needed food. The service was pretty poor at the bar, not sure if it was a training issue but it took a good 15 mins to get served and seated with drinks. Surprisingly our food arrived in 5 mins as it took so long to place the order. It sounded like people were waiting on coffees too so perhaps a few more staff needed for a Sunday lunch? The ciabatta I had was crispy so worked perfectly against the Cajun mayo and avocado, slice of Monteray cheese and buttermilk fried chicken (no one tell the carb police) and a side of sweet potato fries ( charged extra but still cheaper than ordering as a separate side) and coleslaw. I had that with a refreshing st clement - orange juice, fever tree bitter lemon and bitters. I enjoyed the vibe and would return but let's hope the service, toilet paper availability and tidiness of tables improves by then!

I love their Yorkshire puddings! On a busy day you could be looking at a long wait for your food. I know this because I've had to endure a few waits that are thirty minutes or longer; not good when someone else can hear your stomach rumble (yes this has happened to me) However, like the carvery, their food is tasty and I'd recommend their chicken and vegetable burgers. I've noticed that sometimes the staff are friendly and appear happy to serve you and some even have a nice chat. Other times it was the complete opposite and it took a while to get their attention let alone interest. So their excellent customer service needs to be consistent. The drinks are fairly cheap but their drought bear is watered down (probably with good reason though.) The outdoor seating area is nice but not that big. They advertise Plume of Feathers as a family friendly pub but there's nothing for children to do! So they could expand the outdoor seating area into the large car park to involve a small climbing frame.

They offer four different meats and have a fine selection of vegetables, gravy and condiments to go with the various meats on offer. They also offer an all you can eat ice cream station that is very popular with kids, a great reason to bring the family here. I have a sweet tooth and usually fill myself to the brim with the whipped delights on offer. I came here 14 years ago and ordered a baked potato with cheese. We waited for an hour and when it came it was cold and the cheese had been cut into little lumps because they couldn't be bothered to grate it. I glad to say that this has now changed with the new plush décor. The waiting times for the carvery are a lot less than their competitors. I'll be coming back again.

The Cranmore Fish Bar is by far the top of my list, the best most enjoyable fish and chips I have ever tasted and the quality rarely varies from excellent. I have been popping in here now for many years and I can only say the quality has improved with the passing of years. The young man who fries the fish here is a virtuoso master of the art, his batter is light and delicious and enhances the flavour of the fish rather than drown it as can so often be the case. But the secret is not just in the frying, the fish itself is always thick cut, succulent and meaty. What nails it as the perfect chippy is that it qualifies as an ideal "just off" in that I mean it is a great alternative to the Motorway services. Being just off Junction 4 of the M42 and close by a Tesco petrol station it is the wallet healthy alternative to the overpriced motorway services. I recommend the small fish and chips deal as the ideal meal, the large fish is very large indeed. Try it and let me know if you know better.
