Visited: 13/5/14 I…read morecouldn't fault the place really. Good service and great food. I had chilli in the skillet for the starter, and this was great. £4.85 The fillet steak was perfect - £22.50, with nice chunky chips, and succulent mushroom. I had a pint of Shropshire Gold - £2.70 A large glass (250ml) Malbec - £5.75 Definitely go back again..... Note it was quite full for a Tuesday, and we were asked if we had a reservation, but they found us a nice spot in the conservatory. I suggest you book.....

We were welcomed by a not fabulous smell, but I trusted my friends stamp and we sat down, thankfully out of stink range. Bread and such for starter, and the most rock solid cold butter I have ever met, which is a personal gripe when they give you that super soft lovely white bread, but I used my innovative streak and held the butter dish over the candle for a little while whilst the waiter was;t looking. Out mains were great, huge portions of meat, two minutes longer and it would have been too dry, but a through dousing of gravy mostly disguised that. No greens on the plate though. Mash was good, smooth, but fluffy rather than creamy slop that restaurants seem to think we all love. We both plumped for the same pud, cola cake, as it tempted us oddly (must ignore curiosity cola puns...) and it was one of the oddest textures i've had, heading towards jelly like. It wasn't unpleasant, but I would;t call it cake. Not bad, but priced at a similar level to other places nearby that pip it.

Fourth Visit - 28/5/14…read more With family. Food came out very quickly given that they had a large party. The place was fairly full again. I made a reservation this time. My wife was not impressed by the lighting, and worried about the food. She didn't feel it was cooked fresh as it was coming out too quickly. I decided to change my chicken dish from last time and had the Sichuan, but it just was bland. I got the correct noodles this time. My son complained to me that the steak was tough. I was pretty peeved given it was their decision to go for a Chinese meal from what I had said previously. They didn't have a bottle of Pinot Grigio. A pretty common wine. Pork Yuk Sunk - £7.00 Veg Singapore Chow Mein - £6.00 Sizzling Chicken Satay - £8.50 Canton Steak - £12.50 2 x Pepsi - £4.40 1 pint of Grolsch - £3.40 Bottle of Chenin Blanc - £15.50 2 x Cold sweet - £5.90 TOTAL = £70.70 Service was good. Dropping a star overall due to the food, and lacking flavours. --------------- Third visit - 21/5/14 I've dropped this down a star. I ordered the same as last time, but I swear that the Kung Po chicken was different. There was a brown sauce this time, and I even queried it, but was assured it was correct. My doubt was heightened by the fact that the noodle dish I ordered (Vegetarian Singapore Chow Mein) had pork and prawns. The waiter accepted I'd been given the wrong dish, but I couldn't wait for it to be changed. The waiter even came back after placing our order to check everything again, so I was surprised when he or the kitchen got it wrong. They were very nice about it all and did offer to change, but as I say I stuck with what I had in front of me. What I had was very nice, However, the Kung Po chicken wasn't to my taste. The place I visit in Redditch uses a clearer sauce, and Sichuan peppercorns and this gives it a nice edge to the spicyness. I did notice that they charged me for the wrong noodles at £8.00 per plate, as opposed to the one I actually ordered £6. As I ate the £8 one I suppose it was correct. £2 in the schemes of things ain't a big issue. As usual the place was really packed, and I thought we were lucky to get a table. I asked twice for the aircon to put on, or at least increase, as it was getting really hot. They opened the front door, but this did little to help. At one point I had to go outside to cool down. I thought that we were served pretty quickly given there were three large parties. Just to note that the portions are very good. I would return, but I'd be more emphatic about my order. ------------ First time visit, but colleagues go there a lot. Stir Fried Mussels (Green Lipped) - £6.50 Kung Po Chicken - £7.50 Mixed Veg Chow Mein - £6.00 The latter I should have specified a smaller dish. All very delicious. The restaurant wasn't too busy. Colleague constantly asked for praw cracker refills, and got them. Attentive staff, and friendly. We divided the bill, so with two pints added, it was rounded up to £26.00 each. I can't fault the experience.
