Extensive drinks menu, mainly wine and beer, fairly reasonably priced for pints, which is obviously the local tipple.
We were welcomed by a not fabulous smell, but I trusted my friends stamp and we sat down, thankfully out of stink range.
Bread and such for starter, and the most rock solid cold butter I have ever met, which is a personal gripe when they give you that super soft lovely white bread, but I used my innovative streak and held the butter dish over the candle for a little while whilst the waiter was;t looking.
Out mains were great, huge portions of meat, two minutes longer and it would have been too dry, but a through dousing of gravy mostly disguised that. No greens on the plate though. Mash was good, smooth, but fluffy rather than creamy slop that restaurants seem to think we all love.
We both plumped for the same pud, cola cake, as it tempted us oddly (must ignore curiosity cola puns...) and it was one of the oddest textures i've had, heading towards jelly like. It wasn't unpleasant, but I would;t call it cake.
Not bad, but priced at a similar level to other places nearby that pip it. read more
