Excellent food, service and ambiance. Fresh, local ingredients. Although they have a service bar this place is not a bar.

We ordered a mixed grill each and when it came my wife said that her sausages were not cooked. I tried mine and agreed that they were not cooked either. We called the waitress over (who turned out to be the manager) and told her that the sausages were not cooked, sge duly took them away and said they would be cooked some more. When they came back we noticed that they were hot in the middle but didn't appear to have been put under the grill as the outside was the same as when we sent them to be re-heated, we could only come to the conclusion that they had been re-heated in the microwave, which didn't make them amore palatable. The eggs were also over cooked. The worst of all was the gammon seemed like it had been salted to extinction and I mentioned to the manager that it was the saltiest Gammon I had ever had. She did offer a free sweet each but we declined, she also took one drink off our bill. which was appreciated. All in all not a good night. I hope that this review is accepted not as a criticism but as a wake me up call before their standards drop too far. I hope that the service and quality of food return to what it was when we last visited last.

With both an indoor and outdoor children play areas it certainly caters for keeping the halflings entertained. The menu isn't really that special, it's a chain after all but the it has got more finesse that a wetherspoons - not that thats hard. They push the rotisserie chicken here, you can get 1/4,1/2 or a whole chicken but I've been disappointed by this as with other chain pubs that do this. Your supposed to be able to order your size of chicken the sauce its spent to be coated with and then things like chips, salad or rice. But the chicken is often dry because it is not cooked in the sauce, that comes in a jug and personally I just find the whole experience a let down. Other items on the menu are much better and the roast dinners are pretty good, again for a mass produced sort of place. You get full table service, including drinks the portion size is in some cases too big but it does attract the type of customer that wants value for money not necessarily quality. I would eat here over places nearby like the Woolpack and any Wetherspoons, if I wanted a roast dinner though I would personally opt for a carvery. The decor is certainly different with a country meets french shabby chick meets lets stick roof tiles to the walls, but oddly enough it kinda works.
