Um. This restaurant is actual gold. My fiance and I passed by here a few weeks ago and had to stop. I had pot roast with mac n cheese, greens, and rice (that comes with it?) My fiance had pork chops with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was so freakin' good! The mac n cheese was probably one of the best I've had (although I do prefer mac from the Slab in South Shore), but this was great! The only disappointing thing was the mashed potatoes literally had no flavor. And I could tell they were probably from a box. Other than that, I'd go back here every week if I could! So good!

BBQ meatloaf, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuit
Danielle R.

Needed something new to eat on lunch and wanted to try out this soul food spot. Never heard of them before so I was curious on how the food tasted. I ordered the BBQ meatloaf with macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy and biscuit. The meatloaf was just ok. The Mac and cheese was bland, as was the mashed potatoes and gravy. Not only was everything bland but for $16.00 the portions should have been bigger.

My last meal from Jamisons

I'm so disappointed! When did you start adding sugar to the cabbage and making dressing with sweet cornbread? Get the previous chef/cook back! I really can't eat this! I called the regards to to inquire if they had a new chef/cook. The manager said all the recipes were the same I don't think so! I want requesting a refund or anything just letting them know my observation Tjis will be my last meal from Jamisons!

I was so disappointed in this meal!

Food was absolutely disgusting and I tried 3 different items. I'm giving them 2 stars for service and desserts.

I had the catfish combo with cream grits and shrimp, and it was amazing. Everything was flavorful, cooked to perfection. The bacon was so good and crispy. The only miss was the apple crumble was cold but I'm not sure if that was on purpose. I was expecting it to be hot. The greens were fantastic as well. I would go back and order the same thing again and again.

He had curly hair, was light skinned, and appeared to be either a waiter or busser. While we were seated, he bumped into my chair at least three times and even hit me in the back of the head while trying to move around the area. He apologized each time, but after it kept happening, it became frustrating and uncomfortable. He was also spraying 409 heavily at the table right next to us while we were eating. It was so much spray that I genuinely felt like it may have gotten on my food. On top of that, he repeatedly dropped things around our table and seemed to have a difficult time maneuvering through the dining area. It honestly made me wonder if the table placement itself was part of the problem The food service was also disappointing. My meal came out first, and I had to wait quite a while for my sister's chicken biscuit. When it finally arrived, the chicken was not cooked all the way through. My pancake and bacon were both good. I just wish the overall experience had matched the quality of those items. Between being repeatedly bumped into, being hit in the head, cleaning chemicals being sprayed next to our food, and undercooked chicken, it made the experience difficult to enjoy.

We started with the biscuits and pimento cheese. This isn't your grocery store variety of pimento cheese. It's a mix of sharp cheese and peppery pimento that pairs perfectly with the biscuits, that have a sweet honey coating. Next was the perfect gumbo. Spicy and full of chicken and Andouille sausage, it's some of the best I've had, outside of New Orleans. We shared the half chicken and spare ribs. The chicken was perfect, along with squash, green beans and tiny tomatoes. I absolutely loved the tender spare ribs. This place just screams love. They food is all about the love of family gathered around the table. The whole feel is about family. From the cozy seating, to the music in the background! 10/10!

Nice and cozy inside with an open kitchen. The place was very clean and not too loud. They had some nice old school soul music playing in which I liked. Everyone talked about how stellar the service is but we didn't experience that. Our server Alex was a nice gentleman but he wasn't very attentive to us. He seemed to give the other tables a lot more attention than he gave us. 5/10 for service. I still tipped him 25% but he didn't deserve a 10% tip. The food made up for his lackluster service. We ordered The Short Ribs, Bone in Pork Chop, Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Cornbread w/Honey Butter & the Banana pudding for dessert. The short ribs came on top of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes with a very savory gravy. This dish was spot on, tender and everything was seasoned to perfection!! It comes with some fried onions on top which added a nice touch to the dish. 10/10!! The Bone in Pork Chop was decent. Very tender but the flavor was basic at best. My wife & I agreed that it was a mediocre dish. 5.3/10. Now the sides were absolutely delicious!! The collard greens were so flavorful. Some of the best collards I've ever eaten. Cooked perfectly! 10/10. The Mac & Cheese was also amazing! Baked and homemade with a nice crust of cheese on top! Easy 10/10. The cornbread was pretty good. It paired well with the greens. Slightly sweet but not too sweet. 7/10. The banana pudding is something that got rave reviews but it was just ok to us. Nothing special as I make a better banana pudding. 5/10. I wouldn't get it again. All in all it was a very good meal. We will definitely return. As we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Check them out if you haven't. You won't be disappointed. 8.5/10 overall. Remember ALL reviews are subjective

Our server, Miguel, was phenomenal. She was attentive, fast, and gave us some spot-on recommendations. Per her advice, we ordered the deviled eggs with jalapeño, hands down the highlight of the table. The deviled eggs with paired with that subtle jalapeño kick was absolutely perfect. For the mains, the chicken and waffles were good, carrying that solid comfort food flavor you expect. The waffles were a bit soft for my taste. To drink, the sidecar was mixed perfectly, well-balanced, crisp, and hit the exact right note. Giving it 4 stars only because while the mains were good, the starters and the outstanding service from Miguel were what truly stole the show. Two minutes later, I assume a manager(since he did not introduce himself), brings dark greasy chicken on a plate with mashed potatoes and salad. He condescendingly said, let's see this is hot enough. Our server comes backed shocked that the chicken is there already. The chicken appeared to have been old chicken sitting under a warmer that they dropped in grease. It tasted burnt. Another manager came to inquire as he saw we weren't eating the chicken. We asked him to remove the chicken and we'll eat the sides only. He offered to try again. We said no thanks. Why should it take 3 times to get fresh, hot, almost $40 fried chicken? The bill came with the chicken till on it even thought we sent it back. We politely asked him to remove that charge. The manager had the audacity to say "come back next time so we can get it right". Really? We're is the customer service? Our dinner was ruined, No gift card to come back? We have frequented this restaurant for years. This is not Yardbird Quality. Shame on you Chicago

I told her that this place reminded me of a higher end Paje's (Paje's was a Soulfood restaurant that was popular from about 2000 to 2006 here in Chicago located on Milwaukee)! Surprisingly, she said she used to work there and gave them the idea about selling the Kool-Aid in the mason jars, which was an excellent idea. I couldn't wait for her to get her liquor license because I saw that same Kool-Aid in mason jar in other pictures on Yelp which had liquor added! She was so excited and such a nice woman. She introduced me to her daughter!! She was just so happy to be there eating her mom's delicious food! I asked Chef Royce could we take a picture with her and we had a nice conversation!!! There were three major misses: 1) NO COFFEE was available until we were halfway through our meal--10am breakfast on a Sunday and no coffee is available//REALLY(?); 2) It was much more humid inside than was necessary given the temperature outside--turn on your air//it was stuffy; and, 3) I specifically asked in the reservation notes to be seated as privately as possible as this was an HR-related business meeting. I was seated one foot away from another table when other seating possibilities were available that were more private--clearly my note was not looked at before I was seated even though I asked if she'd seen my reservation. After being seated I asked if I could slide my table over as there was a wide open table to my right but a table a foot away to the left. The hostess accommodated the request, but 15 minutes later someone slid a table from the row in front of us to the space directly next to our table. The breakfast was good--"Big Benny" (Eggs Benedict's) was delicious according to my guest, and the "Make It A Classic" (2 eggs, hash browns, toast, bacon or sausage) was as advertised.
