I've been coming to the small Gurtner Dental offices for dental care all of my life, so I've had…read moreboth of the Gurtners - Maggie and Stephen - as my dentist at different points (one works primarily with kids, the other adults). They're definitely a great pair; I can only assume that I don't outright hate or fear going to the dentist as much as the average American because I've had relatively good experiences with these two. I won't even pretend that I've always been the best at taking care of my teeth (boy, was I a challenge to deal with when I had braces and did absolutely nothing in the ways of caring of my teeth!), but they don't hold it against me (openly anyway). These days though my visits are actually usually fast and pretty painless, with the occasional additional matter that requires a little more than a basic check-up. Whenever I come in the staff is always interested in hearing about new developments in my life, which is sweet of them. And the office, which isn't the biggest place in the world never seems too packed or noisy, which is a plus in my book considering that I can be a little stressed waiting for my appointment to start as I hope there isn't a new problem with my teeth. I definitely think this is a great little business run by a great pair of people, and I totally recommend this office to anyone in the area who's looking for a new dentist.

The Dentist did not even take time to introduce herself to me, and was very blunt and uncaring with treatment plan. I understand the practice is busy, but you should still take the time to make people feel comfortable, especially when it comes to dealing with their children. Our last appointment, things really took a turn. The staff seemed frazzled and I heard tid bits of conversation that seemed there was tension. The older dental hygienist at the McLaughlin location, was seeing my child. This is the second time she has worked with my child. I was not a fan the first time as her demeanor did not seem kid friendly (tone, easily frustrated, off comments to my child.) I chalked that one up to a bad day. The latest appointment, had me frustrated. She spoke to my child with a very frustrated tone. He asked her to not have the gloves near his lips but instead of talking through the situation, she told him, well they are there and you are lucky your mom helps you with your teeth. Mind you, my child is not even 5 yet. These comments continued along with increased frustrated breathing and eventually rolling her eyes at my child. She then said, yeah, we are not doing x-rays. He cannot even handle a cleaning. I then stepped in to floss his teeth as he gave me a look as the older hygienist became more frustrated. She then asked him about a toothbrush and he stated which one and she did not listen to his words and grabbed a random one and handed it to him. She then went to check her schedule and words were communicated between her and another hygienist. She left and then came back to tell me the dentist was running behind and she had to move on. I asked how long and she shrugged and said I don't know. At this point , we were waiting for 15 minutes for the dentist to check his teeth after cleaning. I told her I can wait 10 minutes and then I will need to go. She relayed the information to the dentist and then came back to tell me she let the dentist know and had to move on. 10 mins passed and I had to get my kid lunch and off to school..at this point we, were there for an hour for a cleaning for a 5 year old. I told a younger hygienist beside us that I am not too sure who I need to tell but we need to go. I took my child out of the chair and left. A few days later, I received a letter in the mail that the dentist was withdrawing professional care for my child. I spoke to the Practice Manager. Our conversation was very unprofessional and unproductive. She told me I have no clue what I am talking about , laughed when I was discussing my concerns and overall had a poor understanding from a client matter. She also stated to me that I have no clue what is happening in their office , which I agree, but also told me I do not know how the medical field works and I need to change my perception. Unfortunately, this did turn into a who can talk louder as she interrupted me constantly and did not care what I had to say. Her immature demeanor on the phone when trying to discuss my concerns about the staff being overbooked and my child waiting in a chair for 1 hour was horrible. Recently, my husband lost his job from Covid and I was in a car accident limiting my hours! He recently got a new job and we waited the three months for insurance. Our children's six month appointment was scheduled today and we were so glad that we could could keep our appointment and provide them with the new dental insurance card! My husband actually emailed the insurance company this morning to make sure everything would be ok and the insurance provider provided him with what he needed to give to the doctors office. We got the kids out of school 15 to 20 minutes early because we live 25 minutes away. We drove to the office and provided them with the new insurance card. The office staff proceeded to tell us that they called the number on the card, and couldn't find any of our children on record. Also, first let me preface this by stating that two of my children have severe anxiety already! They tell my husband that he should try to call and see if he can get a hold of someone because there is nothing they can do at the moment. We have now been sitting in the waiting room for about 15 minutes and my son is getting very anxious and physically sick by the minute from his nerves ! I go through my email and find what I'm looking for and I go up to the window and show them my husband's benefits and the dental package that the company has sent to him justifying his benefits! The office staff was incredibly rude, they basically would not go out of their way to help us in anyway to make sure that my children could be seen now with their appointments! We also had to make the. six months in advance! They office staff proceeded to make us sit in the waiting room until we got an answer back from our insurance company. In the meantime, we finally get a hold of someone on the phone and we then go to the front desk and they told us we were too late now! They tell us after 20 minutes and all of this time wasted that we could pay out of pocket, which we would have done originally or at least until someone from the insurance company returned their call! But they wanted payment you front even though we would have given them our credit card info just in case! They then told us it was too late and they could maybe take two out of the three kids because they needed to leave by 5 o'clock and they have another person coming in. They said they just couldn't accommodate all three and we would have to make another appointment and come back! This is completely unacceptable especially being a pediatric dentistry! The way we were treated and how smug and cruel they were especially in front of my three children is completely unacceptable! Needless to say, we will not be going back there ever again! I truly hope no one ever has to deal with something like this even during this pandemic and already stressful time! I hope no one has to experience the humiliation, panic and inhuman experience that my three children had to witness today! When our world is already a scary place and you try to teach children to see the good in everyone especially with Doctor's and we as adults try to model that behavior to our children, it's times like this, it makes me absolutely sick that our children are seeing how cruel and mean adults can be! I am absolutely appalled with Dr. Cupelli's office staff's child like behavior , their inability to accommodate my and my children's needs and and their non professional manner! I don't think she is qualified to be a dental tech. I watched her do my son after myself and the same thing. We will not be returning here EVER. We were both complete in under twenty minutes and she attempted to reschedule before we were done. No X-rays taken on me(first time here) or my child's filing was not completed which was the whole point of this visit for him. The dentist stated he would be right back to fill it but we were basically pushed out the door by the tech and she said reschedule to get it filled when the dentist clearly said he would be right back.
