James Movers was recommended by our real estate agent as he had used them to move a piano. The owner Kevan did the quote and at that time he seemed very professional. We used them to move from a 3 bedroom house to a townhouse. Big Mistake. They charged us 50% more than their quote. Breakage was more than expected to pictures and mirrors. One of his employees was rude to my wife during the move. To top it off he ended up blaming us for his problems and the overcharge. read more

I moved a piano as a recommended piano mover. Big mistake. Damaged a wall as per pic. Movers immediately were on the phone to the owner Kevan who offered a choice of a discount or to have them fix. I chose to fix as I am a renter. They confirmed they would arrange in the coming 2 weeks and contact me to have fixed. They never contacted me again. I tried contacting them via email, phone including to the company owner's personal cell phone. I was ghosted. No response. Why offer if no plans to follow through? Disappointed. As their response was this evasive, I have to wonder about them handling my household items and being in my home. Would NOT recommend James Movers as a result. read more

WHAT HAPPENED: The owner of the company, Kurt showed up to move an expensive piece. Kurt did not speak to us when he arrived. He walked past us while we were out-front waiting to greet the movers at the front of our house. He was rude, full of arrogance and would not listen to our experience moving this item. The item is made to move on it's back, not it's side. I tried in vein to explain that to the Kurt, the owner of James Movers. He arrived in a negative mood and was not fun to have to try and deal with while moving a very precious piece. There was absolutely no customer service through the whole experience with him, AND HE'S THE OWNER!!!. The guy who sets an example and sets the culture and tone for his employees. We also had a two thousand dollar piece of glass shockingly just laid down on some pebbles & rock grit right beside Kurt. I immediately picked if off and kurt jumped out of the truck, where he was and yanked it from my hand without comment. At this point you have that feeling like we have made a mistake by letting this unprofessional individual in our home. It went down hill from there. My wife is fighting breast cancer at the moment and we REALLY did not need the added stress! They are supposed to specialize in piano moving etc. The owner was TERRIBLE to deal with in every way! It was a lot of added stress trying to deal with during what is almost always a stressful experience, moving an expensive item and not knowing who and what is going to show up on moving day. Kurt for example! The rest of the crew was good. The owner, Kurt however, was unprofessional and our items were damaged! This is not the first time dealing with this company either. My partner booked them by accident this past time. The last time we used them it was the worst moving experience we have ever had. The crew leader was awful (Tim), he didn't pack the truck correctly and left us with a third of our items to just figure out how to get them where they were supposed to go. We brought the boss out (Kurt) to our house before the move to make sure they would be able to take everything in their truck. I was assured that they would and on the day of the move we had to deal with Tim, the crew lead who had a really bad attitude. We had to scramble to hire a second moving company to finish the job at the last minute. That company was great! It was another awful experience with Kurt & James Movers though! Pros: The three movers. Quick, efficient,strong (!) and professional. The move itself went well and smoothly. Cons: The administration. The pick-up was fine (a couple of hours later than booked, but that can't always be helped), but the delivery was an entire day earlier than booked (!) - luckily someone happened to be home, albeit unprepared, and then the company sent an invoice and complained that they had expected payment on delivery (well, if you had delivered on the right day!). In addition, when booking three weeks before the move I had made a special request but was not informed until the night before that they were not able to fulfill it, which left no time to make other arrangements. On the other hand, they were able to provide an accurate quote at the time of booking, which is unheard of with moving companies. In short, a better than usual experience, but make sure to have all details confirmed in advance and double-checked the day before (things went wrong even though it was all documented in e-mails). read more

James Movers was highly recommended by a friend. Being a senior with a fixed income I wanted a mover to give me a fixed price for the job. I ended up paying a premium amount to get a fixed rate. They were higher than other quotes but I trusted them to treat me properly. First mistake!! I was moving from BC to Alberta and had a friend to receive my goods in Alberta as I would not be there yet. Second mistake!! He did catch them trying to hide the damage to my antique sideboard. It was not until I got there that the extent of damages and loss was tallied up. They also charged $90 more than the contract price with no explanation. When I contacted the owner he offered me $100 for damages. This means he really only offered me $10 for damages since he overcharged me $90. When I questioned this he ceased communicating with me. Some items went missing, lost, or stolen, they never reached Alberta. I feel that I was treated unfairly as a woman and a single senior without the means to fight back. read more

I called them having heard that they have been moving pianos in Victoria for many years. I was told that moving furniture covered about 60% of their business. So I decided to hire them. I regret doing so. My first contact with Kevan James, co-owner of James Movers was by phone. I was surprised he did not offer to come by and provide a proper estimate. Instead it was a quick phone conversation and three guys were booked for a two bedroom and den move. It was only when I sent him an e-mail to confirm our conversation did I receive a response. His communication with us was often slow and left us wondering at times. To that point, their truck even showed up a week early. I ended up needing only two guys as we had done a lot of work ourselves leading up to moving day. The move out was fairly seamless, taking about two hours. I was told by the movers soon after arrival that it's always quicker on the other end, but that the whole job should take about four and a half hours in total after doing a quick walk through of our home. Six hours later in our new home...I was pressured to make full payment to the driver. I tried to explain that we didn't have internet hooked up, but the driver and Kevan were insistent on getting paid before leaving. We had to go through quite the ordeal to make payment. Yet, the paid invoice I received later indicated that the customer could pay online if they like or simply send a cheque. I was not informed of that prior to making payment. If you've moved before, you would know firsthand what a moving day can be like. Your mind is pulled in 15 different directions at the same time. So, it wasn't until a bit later that I realized the company billed me for their break time during our move. In fact, I caught the drivers sitting in their truck eating McDonald's food that was brought to them on site. In addition, my wife and I decided to grab a Subway sandwich on the way over and offered to buy the two drivers a sandwich not knowing about their prior arrangement. So, in addition to their other lunch, they took at least half an hour to enjoy a free lunch on my time. No wonder they wanted to get paid in a hurry and leave. Our move was not without some damage either. An office chair was dropped and sustained some damage. We are still waiting for a part that he promised to drop by for us to secure the back of the chair. I raised the issue with Kevan James. It took two e-mails and about a week before I received a call from him. I still had to explain things before he finally agreed to refund some time off our bill, although nowhere close to covering the extra hour and a half we paid on the move in portion which took almost twice the amount of time as the move out. Most movers would agree that a move in should take less time than a move out. Replacement of a damaged custom pleated lamp shade will likely have to come out of our pockets as we haven't heard back from him on this matter either. It's interesting to note that their website claims they are honest, reliable, efficient and careful. Having hired them, I found out the hard way that this is not true. I strongly disagree with their false marketing claim and also question their business practices. There are certainly better moving companies in Victoria that truly live up to their word and reputation. I would definitely not include this company in the selection process for any future move, unless it's a piano. read more

What an awesome & I would go so far to say awesome job these young men did with our move. Reasonable, yes by all accounts. Prompt arrival time, cautious with your furniture.
