Probably the best experience I've had with any specialist. Had an appointment with Dr. Kalkanis at 9:00am. Arrived at 8:55 and was pleasantly greeted by the receptionist. Sat down for less than 10 minutes when I was greeted by a nurse who escorted me to an exam room. She asked several questions regarding my visit and left after telling me the doctor would be in in a few minutes. Dr. Kalkanis entered the room at 9:07. Asked me all the important questions regarding my issue, listened to my comments/questions and gave me the advice and directions that I needed. I waiting about 2 months to get my appointment that was supposed to an hour long visit. I arrive about 15 min early to turn in my new pt paperwork. I'm taken back 45 minutes after my scheduled time. After signing a form saying they charge for no shows and cancellations. The nurse or assistant had more bedside manor than Dr K did. He spent about 5 minutes with me. Didn't listen to my concerns. Like someone else mentioned. He was very dismissive. I have two insurances one being Molina and one through my employer. Another negative review for Kalkanis. Just like all the other reviews, I left feeling belittled and as if I was an inconvenience for the doctor, if you can call him that. For starters he cut me off 3 times repeating the same sentence while I was trying to translate. He kept interrupting me as if I was a child being reprimanded. And when I asked about the main reason/problem for what we came in for, he completely disregarded it and talked about hearing loss. The main reason we came was not even mentioned and completely ignored. He didn't bother reading the medical paperwork I filled out; clearly he just wants you in and out of his way. He practically left the room before I could say thank you or goodbye. Coming here was a complete waste of time and even days after it still left a bitter taste in my mouth. First of all, He Sucks! Out Loud, with Cold Silence! I went in for an ENT consult to determine if I needed to get a sleep study for apnea in order to get a CPAP machine. He barely looked at me, did not really even listen, was distant and cold. He then proceeded to "TELL" me that I did not need to see a Pulmonologist in order to go forward with a sleep study! He then prescribed like 8 different pills and nasal sprays that I needed to take or use daily that were supper expensive and I would have to always take them! He was "Garbage"! I later got an consult appointment, sleep study with a Pulmonologist and found out that I was in dyer need of a CPAP machine, due to the fact that I stopped for 50 seconds of every minute of every hour! That seems like I would need assistance in order to sleep well! Dr. "Krap-can" was not only not helpful, if I had gone with his recommendations and prescriptions, I would have been out money, time and hindered my process to getting to a healthy resolution! ***MISDIAGNOSED*** ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE DOCTOR WITH THE WORST PERSONALITY!!!!!! Typically, when you read one of these irate yelp reviews on a doctor's office, they trash the staff. This is not one of those reviews. I have zero complaints about the staff working at this office. They were nice, efficient and accommodating! Dr. Kalkanis on the other hand should NOT be practicing medicine of any type. We went to see him for my 14-year-old daughter. She sustained an injury on the soccer field a couple weeks ago and took a very hard headbutt to the face. We had facial x-rays done at urgent care and they showed that she had a nose fracture and a deviated septum. Her nose was visibly crooked and she was experiencing breathing issues at the time when we went to see Dr. Kalkanis. He entered the exam room with a terrible disposition and the most dry personality. He looked up my daughters nose for a quick second and felt around on her face. When I expressed my concerns to him about what the facial x-rays had revealed, he assured me that what she was experiencing was sinus/allergy issues and was very quick to write her a prescription for asthma medicine. He spent less than five minutes with us , buried in his notes and writing the entire time. He had a very dry personality with zero empathy. He repeatedly told me that she had no fracture and no deviated septum. He didn't even look at the facial x-rays or the report that I had brought in. He said that she needed to be on Singulair, which is an asthma medicine.....every night before bed and Flonase in the morning during the day. He spent less than 5 minutes with us and we left not feeling good about what had transpired during the appointment. This was after waiting an hour in the waiting room that not one patient was in when we arrived. Fortunately, I was able to get my daughter in with a different doctor the following day. We ended up seeing Dr. Benjamin Roberts over at Tri valley ear nose, and throat in Murrietta. The most amazing doctor! That is all that I have to say! He ended up confirming that my daughter did in fact have a deviated septum and a displaced nasal fracture. She ended up having surgery 4 days later for him to reset her nose. He said that we caught it just in time because it's very difficult to reset a broken nose after 10 days has passed from the date of the injury, She is now currently 7 days postop and doing amazing. I am so happy that I listened to my instincts and got a second opinion. Dr. Kalkanis is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Do yourself a favor and go see Dr. Benjamin Roberts or one of the other doctors at Tri valley ear nose and throat!!!!!! I would have left 0 stars if I could have. read more

James has been providing me care as my Ear Nose and Throat Specialist for several years now and I am only now getting around to writing a review. His office staff are all incredibly friendly and professional. Dr. Kalkanis repaired a deviation of my septum (twice). It may seem like a small thing but he enabled me to experience a version of life I never even imagined was possible. I'll never forget taking my first breath through BOTH nostrils without straining. I literally cried, James is not just a Dr but a friend to me. He changed my life and made me feel whole by fixing my nose. I absolutely loved my care with Dr. Kalkanis. He is so understanding and patient. I had such an easy experience from the very beginning to the end! I first seen Dr. Kalkanis in January for a consult about my tonsils, I've always suffered with my tonsils swelling often & I wanted them removed they were the reason I was getting sick most times so when I went to my first consult Dr. Kalkanis recommended surgery & that's exactly what I wanted. He was HORRIBLE! First of all, I've been dealing with sensitivity to lights for over 6 months. I've been to optometrist, ophthalmologist, primary care, ER and then ENT and also got a CT scan, eye drops, everything we could think of. Anyhow, when I saw Dr. Kalkanis and explained to him my symptoms, he looked at me like I was crazy and told me that he's ENT. He told me ENT means ears, nose, and throat like I don't know that. He told me that I had no business seeing him. I tried to explain that my primary and ER doctor I saw thinks maybe sinus congestion is triggering light sensitivities, but he cut me off. He was not happy that I was not taking allergy pills everyday even though I was never told by anyone to take it everyday.... How would I know? I'm not a medical professional.... He's very dismissive and unopened to others' opinions. He does not take time to even listen. It was very unprofessional for him to raise his voice at me and talk down to me. I went to see doctor James Kalkanis M.D. for my sore throat. The way he made feel was not good. he said his going to get a scope to look at my throat but I was not comfortable when he came back with scope in his hand without glove or sterilize container or plastic bag. He came back with scope with his bare hand. The time with Pandemic it really made me feel uncomfortable. I think he should approach more professional...He was not present to talk too. I will not go back for another visit. I hope he learn to have more compassion with his client. read more

Don't bother with this guy. I've seen him twice and both times he was arrogant, dismissive, impatient, and condescending. In trying to ask questions to make sure I understood my test results, he repeatedly said "I just explained that to you" and reluctantly repeated the information. Rude! He also misdiagnosed me with GERD, despite me telling him that had already been ruled out by an endoscopy last summer, and gave him a copy of the report which he didn't even look at. I even had another endoscopy with a special test just to be sure... no GERD! He also put me on meds for GERD that are contraindicated for someone with cardiac issues, and told me to stay on the meds even after I expressed my concern that long term use of those meds increased my risk of heart attack or stroke by 70%. I discontinued the meds and got a second opinion with a different ENT whom I continue to work with and is trying multiple things to help me get some relief. Dr. Kalkanis also failed twice to get a sinus CT approved by my insurance because he did not provide adequate documentation, even though I gave him a highlighted copy of exactly what was needed. I ended up filing my own appeal and got it approved myself. My new ENT showed me that a deviated septum is most likely the cause of my issues...something Dr. Kalkanis never mentioned. I may end up needing surgery but we are trying non-invasive approaches first. The only positive thing that came out of all of this was that Dr. Kalkanis sent me for allergy testing (allergist in his office is great!), so I learned some things I was allergic to that I was unaware of before that I can now avoid. Go see Dr. Jimmy Sun instead. He actually listens. read more

I went to Doctor Kalkanis because of severe sinusitis. The first thing he ordered was a CAT scan. He completely disregarded the interpretation of the imaging and set me up for allergy treatments. The woman who administered the allergy testing, Patty, is not to be trusted. She performed the tests on the part of the arm where the patient couldn't see the injection marks and couldn't see the reaction to the allergens. Dr. Kalkanis then set me up for endless allergy injections that only made my sinusitis worse. He didn't give me the time of day or my misery of sinusitis a second thought. I quit the allergy treatments before Covid 19 broke out. My sinusitis just got worse and worse. My husband insisted that I get a second opinion. A new Dr. was able to determine that I had severe nasal polyps, a deviated septum and a facial osteoma. He performed the necessary surgery to treat my severe sinusitis. Why didn't Dr. Kalkanis find this instead of setting me on the part of endless allergy treatments that only exacerbated my condition and my misery? The answer is that he spends so little time with his patients that he doesn't dig in to their problems or he doesn't care. read more
