James's Gourmet Pies is my go-to every holiday! Wow! Just WOW. These pies are THE BEST!!! I'm really passionate about my holiday desserts, and I'm so happy to have found James's Gourmet Pies. James is also an absolutely fabulous human being who puts love into every single dessert he crafts. For me it's like a touch of the happiest part of my childhood, complete southern comfort food. The sweet potato pie is out of this world, and the pumpkin is always perfection. I don't know how he gets the pie crust so perfectly buttery and flaky, but that's the best part for me. I highly recommend the banana cream & the buttermilk too!!! The mini pies are just as amazing as the full size. James provides amazing pies, amazing service, and such excitement to the season. This year I'm ordering early. One year we braved to the mall to pick up because I had forgotten to order ahead. Thankfully, it wasn't a problem. Ridiculously satisfying food. Confessions of a pie eater: 1. I heard about Utah's best sweet potato pie and it put me on a mission. I went to the Salt Lake City farmers market for one reason and one reason only. I confess, I bought a full pie and three cookies. 2. I've had a lot of sweet potato pie in my years. From Hawaii to California and any state I visited, I've tasted many versions of sweet potato pie. I confess, this is my new favorite. 3. I love the thick texture of this sweet potato pie filling. It's not too sweet and you can taste a hint of cinnamon. I confess, the pieces of pineapple takes this sweet potato filling to a whole other level of pie goodness. 4. While I cannot speak about shipping and handling for those outside of the SLC area, I do know that I will visit the farmers market when ever I need to fix my sweet potato pie crave. So I ordered a pie on September 1, 2021 and was supposed to be here by September 3rd (2 Day Shipping) That didn't happen they emailed and said the orders are backed up so they will ship my pie off on September 7th. I'm like ok I'm not in a rush to receive my pie no problem. So finally the contact me the pie will be shipped September 8th ( Wednesday ) So I finally received my pie a week late but I was excited to finally try it. I have never been a fan of pumpkin pie but I've heard my husband wax poetic about sweet potato pie for years so when I saw James Gourmet Pies being sold I knew I had to buy one for research purposes! All I can say is WOW!! This pie is amazing!! The depth of flavor is out of control. It has almost a brûlée like crust on the top that I am a HUGE fan of. Look, I'm no expert. But pies? Pies are definitely in my wheelhouse. I mean, I do know my way around a pie in the kitchen, and when it comes to pies in town I have probably had about as many of the notable as one can. But this is, after all, just one man's opinion. And what's this man's opinion? This is the best sweet potato pie in the city, and ranks up there among the very best any-kind-of-pie you can get in this town. I came across James at the farmers market, which is a great way to get his pies if you can find him. He was all smiles, very personable, and explained the pies and family recipe. We were about to get dinner, so we grabbed just two mini pies and went off to eat. We ate dinner from a local vendor, and then remembered the pies and had them for dessert. Wowza. Well.... we made a beeline back to James at his booth to buy two more minis for the road. The pies are sweet, yes, but it's the pineapple kicker that really makes it special. You can get mnis or full, and you can get them frozen or ready to eat, at least when you're at the farmers market. Now that it's colder weather, you're going to have to order online. So far as I can tell, you can order pies for deliver across about a half a dozen counties in Northern Utah. It's currently taking a couple of days for delivery, but you can head to his website for more information. After a recent feature in the paper, I'm sure things have gotten busy, and I would recommend if you're looking for a Thanksgiving pie, it's probably best to order ahead of time and freeze it until the holiday. read more

James was selling his pies at the Ogden monarch Saturday morning when my daughter and I were there to walk around and check out the gourmet market. I've been following him on Instagram for awhile but never purchased from him. We chatted for a bit, nice guy, and it seemed like he's a good small business owner. This was also one of the best pies out there. This is definitely in my top 5 pies I've ever eaten. The crust to filling ratio is perfect. The filing had the perfect amount of sweetness and the texture is great as well. I'd take this pie over any pumpkin pie. He sells mini pies $3 each or 2/$5 and a 9" pie for $15. I decided to go with the minis just to see if we would like them. After devouring the mini pie, deep down I wished I had bought the 9 inch pie but I know I would've eaten two or three pieces which would not have been good for my waistline. If you ever get a chance to try one of these pies definitely do it. read more

James and his pies were at the SLC Farmer's Market today. I (thankfully) bought a mini one to try... I am a big fan of pies; food, in general really. He said I'd never go back to pumpkin pie after this-- I said that's a pretty bold statement, but he was pretty convinced. When I got home I shared it with my best friend and we both, agreed, he was right. It was quite possibly the best pie I've ever had. Wow I am so lucky to have found James Gourmet Pies!! I'll be honest and say I was a Pumpkin pie kind of girl, but I've been converted. James' Sweet Potato pie is unlike any pie I've ever devoured. The filling was so delicious and I loved the little bites of pineapple (we had to look at the label and I was mind blown!!). The real star is that glorious crust. I have no clue what sorcery James uses on his pies, but wow. It was so sweet and buttery and a whole new type of pie crust I've never had! There's some kind of delicious sugared glaze coated on the crust and it's truly heavenly. I will definitely be ordering again. read more
