It still stands, and basically, Queen Bee is a gift shop with…read morea variety of creative and fun finds: bath and body goods, jewelry, books, stationary and cards, toys, great seasonal goodies, and more. The interior is thoughtfully arranged, a pleasure to peruse, and even features a fun upstairs area. As neighbor to Great Harvest, it always smells like baking bread, an unexpected bonus! Yet despite all these excellent attributes, I stop here for one thing, and one thing only: chocolate. The center of the store features a three-sided shelving unit filled with all manner of chocolate bars and candies. Many are craft, some not so much, but it is certainly the greatest variety and amount you are likely to find in Ogden, and possibly Utah, save for Glorious Caputos in SLC.
But that is not all! They have a small case at the front counter, and this is where you should really be directing your attention. They are one of the few spots you can find Chocolot, and the only source I am aware of for Food of the Goods chocolates and truffles. Both are excellent, high quality, and skillfully crafted goods by local chocolatiers!
I am most familiar with Chocolot. Their style is artisan, showing off well-tempered shiny, crackly-thin shells, often decorated with vibrant splashes of color, or smooth pattern-topped squares. I have never had a bad chocolate, but standouts are Grand Marnier, Strawberry Balsamic, Mint Leaf, Espresso Lavender, and Pistachio Cardamom.
Some of my recent FOTG favorites are Mango Turtle and Caramel Cocoa Wafer, and EVERY SINGLE truffle they offer. Seriously, that filling is so, so luscious and rich and perfectly balanced! If you can only get one, though, the candied cacao nib rolled variety is one of the best things I have recently tasted. Truly took my breath away with it's perfection.
Everyone I have interacted with here is lovely, kind and patient. Prices are in line with similar purveyors of quality goods, the bon bons themselves ranging from $2-$4 each. This is a gem of a shop, Ogden, treasure it!
