Interesting place with really interesting folks. I love coming here because I never know what I'm…read moregoing to find. I also really enjoy the auctions. I will never be able to recommend Somerset Auction Co unfortunately because of their grossly misinformed animals handlers. Over the years, I've bid on and purchased numerous livestock from SAC. I'm always pleased with the conditions that animals are kept in while awaiting their new homes. Clean, fresh shavings, enough space to move about..(No food or water but beggars can't be choosers) However, without fail, the methods that they use to handle the animals placed here is the same, year after year.. At best, it is lawless and abusive. I highly DO recommend visiting here, and bringing a recording device. On my last visit, one gentleman exclaimed after repeatedly beating the nose of a pig "as long as there's no cameras around, right?.." In the age of technology I'm not really sure why we let this continue. Are we so afraid to confront people? Or is it that we just don't care? All the shame in the world on you, SAC. You have so much potential to be an amazing auction. Why risk your livelihood because you can't move forward. People don't beat animals anymore. I'll try to link video in the comments. People lie. And people will sugarcoat. As one other gentleman reviewer stated, video footage of abuse does not lie. Get it together, trash.

I Recently used the Somerset Auction House's "service" for the selling of some goods I had…read moreaccumulated over the years.. Most of my items were brand new in original boxes or were presented in excellent condition as I am an avid collector of unique items which I find at other Auctions and also Estate Sales from all over the country. Among some of these items were 2 huge 3' boxes of unopened office supplies from a closing business just filled to the brim w/ unopened supplies such as high quality / high capacity staplers, paper slicer, cash box, color printer / scanner, multi-line phones, an unopened 15" x 20" hours of operation sign, new & unopened camping supplies, an antique gun cleaning kit, 4' artwork, a vintage counter top blender from the 50's etc. Their service seemed easy enough and being a frequenter of a lot of different Auction Houses all across the US I was accustomed to how they tend to operate.. The value of my items as a whole was approximately in the $350 - $400 range conservatively and I grouped / boxed "lot" items together which were to be sold as such totaling 34 items to be sold all together, I dropped them off on Thursday afternoon and hoped for the best.. I was unfortunately unable to attend the Auction on Monday due to previously planned obligations.. I called ahead and later came in on Tuesday to be told that all of my items had been sold successfully which is always a nice surprise and music to my ears :D and then I was then handed a check for my goods..The amount you ask..?? To my shock barely over $100 for so many quality goods, oh my goodness WHAT A JOKE! aNd tho I was not in dire need for the money I did expect a fair price for my items which I left in the hands of the Somerset Auction House. Thinking back now I wish that I had attended because perhaps if I were physically present and could have actually seen my items sell for mere pennies then I would believe that THAT is indeed what had truly happened,.. The Somerset Auction House displayed a true lack of professionalism in handling my lot of items and my experience using them was more than disappointing. I sadly would not recommend their service to anyone and find that they clearly do not have their client's best interest at heart.. I proclaim unfair business practices at best.. SCAM ARTISTS for sure. It is not so difficult to tell this is a racket when you tally up the math.. a little over $100 for 34 quality items is only averaging $3.00 per item.. now THAT is what is ridiculous, I could have made over 3 times that amount selling my items on craigslist or at a yard sale.. Save your humility and stay away from this local swindler.

Their shipping service is extremely poor. Once you win an item, they demand payment and then after you pay, all you hear is crickets chirping. Their method, if you can call it that, is extremely poor. I get it that they see it as a waste of their time. You know, having to employe those people to pack makes Poulin feel like they are bleeding money. My biggest concern is did my item I won and paid money for get damaged in the process of shipping. When you finally get an office person on the phone, I found it odd that the person uses the same lines you hear on the Vagas pawn show and, on the picker, show that "we are just hemorrhaging money when you people don't pay right after the auction. You just have no idea" and in the background a more experienced employee is coaching the other person on what to say. Then you realize if you really call them on what they are trying to do that you had better wait until they ship your item. There are so many other professional and reputable auction companies to buy or sell from. And they don't charge the high fees that Poulin does.
