Unfortunately, the little white building is a…read morelittle set back from the street, and might be easy to pass by, but it's a great resource and definitely worth finding. To start with, I've had all my jewelry (especially some delicate chains and undersized rings) repaired at Leander Jewelry, exclusively, since I found them last spring. They have all the professional resources, tools, and equipment a reputable jeweler should have, including a machine that identifies stone and metal content for accurate valuations. I've noticed that their prices are based primarily on the metal value, with necessary markups for craftmanship and stones. So, prices are always fair, honest and transparent. And I can look up for verification on my phone in real time if I want to check for myself. Best of all, the folks who run the store are so friendly and fun. I love looking through the cases and trying on all the pieces that catch my eye. It's a family run business and they're good to their regulars. I suggest stopping in to check out the inventory for yourself, let them get to know your face, and you just might find yourself a family jeweler for life. PHOTO BELOW P.S. Please forgive the fluffs on the velvet. I probably should dust more, but this is a photo of one of the chains they repaired for me. You'll notice the chain is as thin as a hair so it was only able to be melted together/not re-linked. But they did a great job, as you can see.

I went in with a heavy-ish 14k gold pendant I wanted melted into a ring. Brian himself talked to me…read moreabout the project and asked if the gold pendant was sentimental. No, I said, I just have it. Brian showed me a few ring styles to get an idea of what I wanted (I needed a replacement wedding band). He did a lot of pushing buttons on a calculator and let me know that I could order a ring from them and use the gold I had as credit. It would be the best deal, he said, rather than getting my gold melted down. So it wouldn't be the same gold from the pendant in the ring, but they would accept the pendant as a partial "payment." Sounds great! Brian ordered the ring for me and it arrived very quickly. The store held onto my pendant while the ring was on order and when I came to pick up, all I had to pay was the balance, which was really quite reasonable. This place was quite busy both times I went in, so I was surprised that the owner himself came out to talk to me. I would guess that he loves the custom jewelry making part of the job, because when the first person helping me heard that I was interested in melting down a piece to make something new, she grabbed Brian immediately. All of the other salespeople were occupied with selling the jewelry from in cases. Anyway, the attention I received was really quite lovely and Brian was super friendly. I'll definitely go back if I need something custom made.

On Saturday, when I was out shopping, mostly window shopping, I ran across Avant Garde Jewelers. They have some unique pieces and not the typical run of the mill jewelry pieces. I like that hey have petite pieces as well as more elaborate ones. In addition, they sell natural as well as lab created diamonds. I do not own in lab created diamonds but I do know they are growing in popularity because they test as a diamond and they have a significantly lower price point. After pleasantly chatting with Sydney for a bit, she created a two item wish list for husband. I am sure that the hubs will be rushing down to Avant Garde to fulfill my wish list. Not! He is still recovering from our 25th wedding anniversary.

My diamond is…read morevery sentimental to me, an heirloom from my parents wedding band, so I don't trust just any jeweler for repair. Burt was amazing! He completed the repair quickly and beautifully. My ring sparkled more than I can ever remember. It is absolutely stunning! No wonder they're going out of business. Their hokey marketing schemes lead you to believe a…read moremarkdown on an item is imminent (one that would begin to make the item competitively priced). Then they send a sale notice 1 hour ahead of the sale start and require that you be present, give your contact info in a registration to be eligible for the sale price (even if they already have your contact info registered for another event). They're so caught up in these marketing hijinx, they're not even liquidating smartly... I tried to purchase a ring over the phone on a day it was discounted 15% off the 70% off price. I was told I would need to be there in person to get the additional 15% off (after I'd already explained I couldnt; the 1-hr notice of the sale was insufficient). So instead, they sold the ring later during their Santa grab bag whereupon the absolute minimum they discounted it was 15%, but may have been as much as 50%. What kind of sense does that make? The lady who interacted with me both times I was in the store is just not personable at all. And last, they have a parking lot with a sharp dip across the entire driveway that can damage a vehicle getting into it (as it did mine). I feel sure I'd have a better experience at just about any other jewelry store.

We popped into Quenan's Jewelers in the Georgetown downtown square during the Red Poppy Festival…read more This jewelry store has been in Georgetown for more than 20 years. According to my sales representative, it is the best jewelry store in Georgetown. From the moment you walk in, our sales representative was welcoming and genuinely interested in helping us find exactly what we were looking for. The selection was beautiful, and she took time to explain options without any pressure. My friend and I were just browsing. My 25th wedding anniversary is in June, so I thought look for an item for my hubby to buy. Smile. Our gift purchasing protocol is that I pick and he pays. No selection was made. What stood out to me was the variety of items were reasonably priced.

That day the pearl of the necklace was unattached by them, while cleaning. They recommended to send it somewhere else to fix. Finally on Sept 12 we got the set back. To our surprise a woman named Ana Diaz, delivered the set with a charge for fixing it, (something they broke) of $45.47. She spend quiet a bit of time, looking at it, reviewing it, and gave it back to my husband. While I was browsing the store, that handles merchandise of some designers, a bulk merchandise type. There's no designer there, nothing is special. We got home, and the pearl from the necklace is white!!! now, the earrings were never clean and touched. Personally I think this is just a retail store, with nothing special and zero customer service.
