I went in to grab some tacos for lunch and my 3-year-old daughter asked if she could have some chips and I said yes. The male owner scolded her, making her cry, and made her put the chips back. When I intervened, he yelled at me in front of my terrified, crying toddler, called me a "fat b****," (I'm pregnant) and accused me of "not having $ to even pay for the chips". I'm a regular customer, always buying tacos and drinks (the taquero already knows me), yet this behavior was completely unprovoked. Absolutely shocking and unacceptable. Taco prices have gone up to $2.80 each, unfortunately the food quality consistency has not. I had not visited this establishment since late 2023 and at that time noticed the quality was not the same as before. This recent visit will be my last. I ordered Barbacoa, Pastor and Bistect tacos and was disappointed two of the three selections. The Bistect was very dry and seemed old. The Barbacoa was very fatty and seasoning was not on par as past. The Pastor was good, but not good enough to warrant a return. (Full disclosure: I wrote about Jamal's for Plano Profile...this is an edited version of what ran in print) Located in East Plano, Jamal's Convenience Store is just that--a small, quick-service market with cold drinks, check cashing and wire transfer services, foodstuffs and Taqueria La Paisanita, a grill-on-demand street taco counter. Street tacos are known for their simplicity: Flavorful meat, onions and cilantro wrapped inside small steamy corn tortillas. Because the corn tortillas are small, usually 3″ to 4″ in diameter, the tortillas are usually doubled and tacos are sold in multiples. Street tacos are truly designed to be eaten on the go. The parking lot at Jamal's is small, truly designed for you to get in, grab what you need and go. For those who don't want to eat on the go, there are two picnic tables inside the building for convenient seating. The staff keeps big squeeze bottles of red (rojo) and green (verde) salsa on the table, along with extra napkins. The menu offers five types of tacos: Fajita, pastor, lengua, barbacoa and pollo. At the counter, simply indicate what type of tacos you want and how many of each particular type. Prepared in front of you at a small grill, each taco comes with two small corn tortillas, warmed and nicely blistered on the grill, plus freshly chopped sweet onions and cilantro, unless you request for them to be left off. A small portion of grilled onions and a lime wedge are provided on the side. If you want to take your tacos on the road, you can pay for small to-go containers of salsa. Tacos were $1.49 each (plus tax), making for a very affordable and filling lunch. Lengua: The idea of eating tongue may be slightly disgusting, but trust us, tongue can be incredibly flavorful and is a very lean cut of meat. The meat is served finely chopped. Barbacoa: Barbacoa is mostly tender cheek meat (cachete), tongue (lengua) or "mixta," which is all the various bits left after a cow head is slow-cooked and the meat pulled off. Pastor: This tangy boneless pork shoulder is thinly sliced and marinated in adobo, a sauce made with chilies, garlic, vinegar and other spices. Fajita: Perhaps the most familiar of fillings, fajita is a grilled marinated skirt steak. Jamal's fajita beef was tender and not at all chewy, a common problem for tough cuts of meat like skirt steak. Pollo: Tender, slightly spicy, shredded chicken. Steve declared this was his favorite. Salsa enhanced the flavor but certainly wasn't necessary. The tacos themselves are not spicy. Use the salsa to bring the spice level up to your preference. The rojo and the verde both pack quite a punch and can cause even the spiciest food lover to break a sweat. Good to Know: Jamal's accepts cash only and no outside food or drinks are allowed. A wide selection of beverages are available for purchase in the drink cases. Pay at the main counter--also cash only. If you'd prefer to eat your taco with a fork, make sure to grab that at the counter, too. read more

One of the things I miss most about Mexico are the street tacos. In Mexico, the best tacos aren't inside in restaurants, they're outside being served by guys in little food carts. You order your choice of tacos and are served within seconds. Fresh, hot and delicious! While this taco stand isn't outside, it's not a full service restaurant, either. They don't have aguas frescas - you have to purchase drinks from the convenience store the stand is located in. There's two small benches and ~5 stools, or you can order to go. They have lengua (cow tongue), al pastor (pork), chicken, beef fajita and barbacoa (cow head meat - delicious). I tried 2 of all of them, and they're all delicious. Many places overdo it with the grease on the barbacoa, but this place gets it just right - juicy but not greasy. The tacos are served with grilled onions, some peppers, and come in two small, yellow tortillas. Just like Mexico :) Highly recommend for some true Mexican food. No tex-mex here! read more

The taco place inside Jamal's is called La Paisanita and it's a small building next to the gas station/convenience store on the corner of Parker and K Ave. The parking lot is small, but I had just beat the lunch wave! I first found this place by accident, but I'm glad I did. Talk about a hole in the wall, but don't let that fool you if you're not used to these kinds of places. It reminds of Mexico from the moment you pull into the pot-holed parking lot that is usually full (a good sign), right down to the sodas and snack foods you won't find at 7 Eleven. This taco stand is actually inside Jamal's Convenience store and it looks like it's run separately. There are a couple tables and stools, so don't expect much room to eat. I always take it to go anyway. There may be a small wait if it's really busy, but it's worth it. The pork and steak tacos are really good, the chicken is ok, haven't tried anything else. The tacos come with fried onions, cilantro and salsa. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the tacos are just a bit greasy, otherwise I might eat there every week. I went back up there and she said it was already in the trash I said in the trash where she said out there I said in the trash where she said out there but I think she was lying and holding on to it with some other ones for some reason she offered to take my tickets and fill out some other ones and I was like no . I believe that it was in the little lottery thing that you keep your slips and tickets in I seen sitting behind the counter with a bunch of them in there.
