This is our first time at this location in El Monte. We found out their closing this Big 5, and they need to sell everything. Sometimes they have really good clearance deals as well on seasonal items that are out of season. They just don't have a restroom so when my son has to go to the restroom the only option close by was target!

When I returned home, I visited this Big 5 location and spoke with a manager to return all three seats. There was an issue with the itemized items on my receipt, which caused the manager some difficulty, as the bar codes on the receipt did not match the codes on the merchandise. The manager resolved my issue within a few minutes, and I received my refund. The store manager was very helpful, friendly, and professional, and is to be commended for providing great customer service.

The reason I chose Big5 over a regular gun shop is because you don't, at least back then, need an appointment for your firearms test. You do have to make sure that you take it while a manager is there, so your best bet is calling ahead. The whole testing and purchasing process was very quick and easy. I even got a discount that just about matched the lowest prices I saw on line (I don't think they price match). Also, they are not an FFL for internet gun sales, so if you buy a gun online, you can't have it shipped here. I've been back since for a 16 gun gun safe, a hard sided rifle case, and most recently, a small 4 person tent for my yard since I work in healthcare and if I get exposed to a COVID-19 patient, I will need to isolate myself from my family. It's not as big as the one in Brea, but I keep coming back here because they have what I want in stock and the parking is easy and the staff friendly.

Christian was the gentleman that helped me out along side a trainee. I understand when training someone, things may take a while. And it did. Buuuuut, even though he was training someone while helping me out. It was still one of the fastest transactions I've experienced compared to other locations. Very knowledgeable in his line of work which is greatly needed especially dealing with legal transactions as these. Answered all my questions with understandable explanation with no hesitation. What I was most impressed about is how he was guiding his trainee. Never once belittled them when they would make a mistake or didn't understand a certain line on the paperwork. Instead would guide them on how to fix or correct it in a friendly and professional manner. Because I've seen managers do that before and it gets so awkward. So kudos to Christian for not letting any sort of Ego get in his way. Bottom line. I'm happy with my purchase, and the customer service I received upon arrival!

We looked around and we asked about the bikes and was able to try one of them to see of it'll work for a particular body size. The staff were very helpful and they all helped answer questions. When I realized the mistake, I politely asked if that item could be removed from the transaction. The cashier immediately responded, "I can't," and offered no explanation or attempt to help. A manager was called over and seemed visibly annoyed. We were told there were only two options: either void the entire transaction and wait approximately 20 minutes for the gift card funds to be restored, or pay the difference and then return the football cards afterward for store credit. Since there was no way I was spending an additional $63 on football cards, we chose to void the transaction and wait. We specifically discussed that it was Father's Day, that we needed to get to a family dinner, and that we would wait the required 20 minutes so my son could repurchase the correct items. The manager advised us to wait near the entrance or continue shopping. After the 20-minute wait, we spent another 15 minutes waiting for the same cashier to help us complete the purchase, only to discover that all of my son's items had been returned to the sales floor. We were then told, "You just left the items," despite the fact that we had clearly communicated our plan and followed the instructions we were given. What bothered me most was not the store policy itself, but the complete lack of customer service. There was no apology, no empathy, and no effort to make a frustrating situation easier--especially for a child trying to use birthday gift cards. The entire interaction felt dismissive and unnecessarily difficult. The saddest part was that my son left the store in tears instead of excited about his birthday gifts. What should have been a fun experience became a frustrating and upsetting one due to poor communication and a lack of basic customer service.
