Jalapeños is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant ever!! The service is incredible and they serve chips with the best red and white salsas. I always order à la carte the grilled chicken quesadilla and egg/potato burrito. LESS THAN $10 TOTAL!!!! Tell me where you can find that kind of a deal!! And it's so delicious!!! Nice ambiance with plenty of seating and ample parking in the lot. read more

Upon being seated I was served with complimentary chips with salsa and white sauce! Im always a fan of white sauce over salsa. The salsa was ok, and the white sauce was about average you can get.Waiter came back in about 10 minutes and got my order. I got the Chori Pollo($15) and came out in another 10 minutes. Everything tasted about on par to other Mexican restaurants, a solid meal. Overall a decent sit down Mexican place. Food(50%): 6.6 Staff/service(25%): 6.0 Value(25%): 7.6 Overall: 6.7/10 read more

Never a good experience when service is so bad even a pickup order can't be done properly. Employee said my order was not ready when I arrived then picked up a package from a table 10 minutes later saying it was mine. When asked why he didn't say it was ready when I arrived he told me I should have checked the table. Very poor attitude combined with a "don't give a crap" attitude takes this place off my list visitable eateries!!!! read more

We've eaten here many times. So far we haven't had a bad meal or bad margarita or bad service. My boyfriend goes more often since he lives closer. And had said it's always delicious. And so far I haven't found the bathrooms to be gross either. Always well stocked. read more

Best Mexican food in the area. Great service. Eat there enough they know what I'm ordering when I come in.

I really wanted to like this place since it's local to me but I was met with disappointed. It was a very hot day yesterday and I was looking forward to cooling off and dining in somewhere. As soon as I walked into this restaurant, I felt no reprieve from the outdoors. The ceiling fans were running on high mode but it was incredibly warm in the restaurant. As soon as I sat down with my family, I could feel the table was extremely sticky. So here I am, hot as mess with my forearms sticking to the table. Not a great first impression. As far as a the food goes, nothing too exciting. The chips were stale and over fried. Very hard to chew. This goes for the shell on my taco salad as well. There was very little ground meat but lots and lots of lettuce. I was quite surprised by the small portion size considering the meal was priced higher than at most Mexican restaurants I've dined at. The grilled chicken on my son's kids meal was flavorful, but disappointingly dry. Service was okay. The waitress checked on us once, but we had to ask for the refill on our water. I'm honestly not sure if we'd come back again. read more

Service was very good. Food was OK, but could use a bit more meat and less beans and rice. Restrooms need to be refurbished and kept a bit cleaner. Overall, just average, not the best Mexican or mixed drinks in the area. read more

Good food and good service. Good lunch specials and the food comes out fast so if your on a time schedule it's great

I love Mexican food. Of course I have my favorite meal that I order at every Mexican restaurant but this one was unique in that the refried beans were inside the quesadillas. It was awesome. The meal came with guacamole, cheese, sour cream. Very delicious!! It was quiet. Well the World Cup was on in the background. read more

Good food, and great sauces. I don't normally like restaurant guacamole but their fresh guacamole is really good. Sadly, I almost broke a tooth on two 1 inch long sharp chicken bones that were hiding inside a tamale, and that is not cool. Worst case it's a definite choking hazard, definitely a danger of getting stabbed in the mouth or chipping teeth. read more

Service was excellent, we ordered takeout, they were very efficient, and very quick. The food was absolutely delicious, portions were great, and service was good. A few of my family members ordered the burrito fajita, they were two huge burrito stuff with tons of meat, the nacho grande was huge, and the rice was delicious. read more

Not the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Service was polite enough. I got a Chile Relleno (small), Mushroom Quesadilla, rice and beans. The rice was dry. Beans were okay. The mushrooms were cooked on the burger grill - greasy. Husband got Vegetarian A. I had to laugh at some of the Yelp reviews. Our experience was similar. Try getting more napkins. "Sauce a mixture of mayonnaise and anti-freeze" for the little bowl of cheese sauce, pretty much nailed it. Once was enough. read more

I've eaten here several times and each time I regret it. The decode ours pretty typical for a Mexican restaurant. It is fine and everything is clean enough. The bathrooms are mediocre. The service is the same. It is decent enough but nothing that would make me recommend the place. Unfortunately the food is not good. Everything I've had was less than medicore. Nothing is seasoned and the salsa tastes like marinara with a tiny kick. It would be better paired with bread or mozzarella sticks. The chori pollo has very little chicken, but a pile of bland chorizo. I don't know how you make a bland dish that is covered is sausage and cheese. Definitely the worst I've been served. Where ever they currently get their chorizo they should chnaI'd probably give them one start except the people were very nice and did a good job serving. read more

They messed up my brother's order got mixed up with another plate so since the other people didn't realize they had the wrong plate cause the plates were similar they didn't give my brother a new plate. We got a discount on the price though! But then we called ahead to see if they allow dogs and they said yes and then they sat us but the whole time they were just staring at us and told us at the end they don't allow dogs. read more

As much as I keep coming back here because it's local I wish I liked it more. When you walk in the register and hostess stand is RIGHT THERE.. as well as a bench and small diving wall. It is very cramped and it becomes uncomfortable when there are 2 or more guests trying to be seated or trying to pay for their meal. The restaurant itself is orange from the walls to the floor. There are jalapenos painted on the table and a few other wall paintings. I think the decorative atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. The chips and salsa is brought out pretty quickly by someone who is not your server... and they do not offer to refill the chips/dip like other restaurants in the area. Last night the service was really slow. I have been here a lot over the years (family's choice when meeting up) and the servers don't do a lot of checking up on you. We had a party of 3 and were only given 2 silverwares.. each with one napkin. There was a minor dip spill and we waited for a few minutes to see if anyone was coming by (to check drinks, clear the chips, etc) and I ended up having to walk to the host stand where all the servers were to ask for napkins and I received two. The food came out pretty quickly and honestly it is just meh. I do like the prices (5.50 kids meals, $13 steak chicken chorizo, $10 pick 4) but the food is underwhelming every time. The beans are just okay, a bit watery and the rice is dry. The chicken with nacho sauce is the best part of the 3 Amigos meal, their chori is not as juicy as I'd like. It is almost worth the money you pay for it but compared to other places this one is just 'meh'... average, nothing special and that makes me sad as it's the best Mexican place local to me in Isle of Wight. read more

A fun place go where they know you and the food and drinks are good! Always a good time!

Worst music I have ever heard... sounds like RAP. Not soothing music while you eat. So sad. Will not be back! Not good for family restaurant. read more

This mexican restaurant was horrible! I wish I could give it a zero. The food had no flavor, it was the blandest food I have ever had. I don't like spicy, but this had no flavor. With a name like Jalapeños you would expect a lot of flavor. Don't waste your time or money! read more

Overall a decent little Mexican restaurant. Service was OK and the food was good. Margaritas were sufficiently strong. This is a nice place to eat if you're in the area. I wouldn't drive out of my way to eat here, as it's not a "destination restaurant". But, I would certainly Lu eat here again if I had an urge for Mexican and was in the area. read more

Stopped in when here on business. Typical looking Mexican place. The salsa was just ok..so I ordered the tableside guacamole and it was wonderful! I ordered the chicken soup special which was pretty but very bland. Drink was great and service very good..and since I stuffed myself on guacamole I didn't have room for the soup anyway. read more

The food is pretty good most times, but the staff that I have dealt with are always nice which goes a long way with me.

this is one of the best restaurants ive been to. the service is always very friendly and the food always tastes great!

Service was terrible. Staff was friendly at the door, but our waiter seemed disgusted that we were there. A young lady made us great fresh guacamole. We were courteous and friendly to our waiter and were met with a sullen attitude and disdain. It seemed as though he was trying to ignore us. I can't rate the food we just wolfed it down and left. ruined our dinner experience. My wife says never again. I say that I'm not going to let one waiter influence me. We won't be back in the near future. read more

Had something really good today...my wife and I had lunch today at this local mex restaurant. The stand out was table side made guacamole. The server peeled and mixed fresh guacamole with onions, tomatoes, jalapeños, salt and garlic powder. It was awesome! Worth a try indeed. The rest of the lunch was tasty also. I had a vegetable quesadilla and Kate had the mushroom quesadilla both pretty good...but the guacamole !!!! read more

Very bland and standard Mexican fair. My wife's margarita tasted funny to start and the salsa was from a jar. I don't understand why they don't make salsa from scratch as it is the first impression of the quality of food coming in a Mexican restaurant. If you have ever been to On The Boarder their chips and salsa is better. I had the chicken fajitas which were ok but had no real flavoring to them. My wife had the chimichanga which looked ok to me but had some kind of cheese sauce on them that she didn't like. The service was slightly above average and the cost of our dinner wasn't bad. The only reason we tried this place is because we had a coupon but we will not be returning which is a real disappointment because it's right down the street from our house. read more

The people that own and work at this place actually care about their customers. Their food is amazing and if I could give it 10 stars I would. It's just a little small town restaurant that's trying. read more

I've been a couple times, and as a local, sometimes you just don't feel like driving over the JRB for dinner. The last time will definitely be our last, though. The food would be better at Taco Bell, which is conveniently next door. And the host actually threw our menus down, and walked away without saying a word. Kinda strange, but you know, we were hungry. I'd say just grab a combo at TB if you're jonesin in Smithfield, this place is the pits. read more

The atmosphere is just ok. It could use a woman's touch. I absolutely love the white sauce that comes with the chips when you first sit down! I have ordered the fajitas for two and they were very good but subbed the beans on the side for extra rice but ended up with basically one portion of rice instead of two. I always take food home because their meals are more than I can eat while there. The staff are friendly but don't speak fluent English but my son speaks fairly fluent Spanish so it wasn't a problem. I've been twice and would go again. read more

Just left this restaurant and felt obliged to leave this review. Why is it that the worst service seems to happen when a restaurant is dead? There was a woman w caramel hair who got an attitude after my very lack server was nowhere to be found. I simply asked where he was but he went on break AFTER giving us our check and not ringing us up? It wasn't busy but youdeemed to be taking a break and slow at everything. The male server clearly cares more about styling his hair than he does about his job. Sad bc this is my hometown! read more

Wish I could give it a -1. The food is horrible. It would taste better out of a can. The only thing worse than the food is the waitress. I'm a Realtor and pride myself on telling people great things about Smithfield. This is the worst! read more

I always try to be tactful when I leave a negative review, so here it is. I've been there previously. Yesterday me and a friend went at a slow time on a Monday. Good Mexican food. For a small town in Virginia. Pretty quick in food preparation. Drinks could be stronger.

Serving an American bastardization of Mexican food, you'll be starting off with some stale chips and two kinds of dipping sauce. One that tastes like mayonnaise with a hint of anti-freeze, and the other tastes like vine ripened tomatoes and feet. Drinks are served in 55 gallon drums of 99% ice. For the main course, you have a choice of 12 different names for a burrito. Dessert is a delicious assortment of 10 year old vending machine candy. ENJOY! read more
