So you city folks love your farmers' market? Well, I love my suburban ones in Park Ridge and Morton…read moreGrove but as the song goes, "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet". We were on our way to Paul Bunyan Fest on a Wednesday morning, on US-45 headed to Eagle River's main shopping district when we came upon this huge market spanning about a block long, one tent after another. We stopped to check it out and before long, we were checking out fresh cukes, squash, beets, tomatoes and prepared items like breads, dip mixes, salsa and jams. It just kept getting better and better. Had we not been on vacation, we probably would have bought twice as much. The prices are better than Chicago-area markets and the variety was even better, being located in what is already a mostly rural area of northern Wisconsin. I got a quart jug of maple syrup for $12 - good luck finding a 12 ouncer for under $10 anywhere. I also picked up a 2 pound jar of locally harvested wildflower raw honey for $6. There were all sorts of soaps, lotions and wax products at another vendor table. Our kids were getting restless and we were not about to stop till we saw the whole market. Until you experience a farmers market like this, you don't know just how awesome a farmers' market can get.

Farmer's Market eh?…read more There are a few legitimate sellers who grow their own produce, gather their own eggs, collect their own honey, etc. and then there are a bunch of bozo's selling a stupid selection of bird houses and taking up 3-4 spaces and other craft type wares that have no business being in a Farmer's Market. There's also more than one seller that buys a pickup load in the Southern part of the state with an earlier growing season and pawns it off as locally home grown. It's no longer fresh. Ask. Someone needs to vet this affair and it would be a much better source for farm products.
