Cranberry Square Market is a little sleepy market right on a massive cranberry bog. I've been to…read moremany a farm/orchard but this was my first time on a bog and it was pretty interesting! The little shop inside has a video that explains the process (flooding the fields, floating the cranberries to the top, collecting them, etc) and you can walk through the bog and check out the berries growing at your leisure. Inside the store it's all cranberries all the time. Cranberry salsa, cranberry jam, dried cranberries (like 8 different kinds!), baked goods, candles, decor with cranberries all over them, etc etc. Lots of samples too, so you can try a few things before you commit to buying them. In particular we really liked the salsa and the plain cranberry jam, so we bought a jar of each of those. And 4 different kinds of the dried cranberries (regular, cherry, orange and mango) which I'm looking forward to snacking on and baking with. Plus, when they're in season, (which they are right now) you can buy fresh cranberries in a variety of sizes (1lb, 5lb, and more!). I picked up a 5lb bag because cranberries freeze really well! Prices are reasonable for the lovely products. Staff person on site the day we were there was really friendly and gave us great recommendations of things to try. A fab place to stop if you're into produce and production, with tasty things to enjoy to boot!

You can find about 20-30 vendors setting up shop just south of the VFW on River Drive every Saturday in the summer. There are some excellent fruit and vegetables available at what I would consider reasonable prices. Other categories of goods available: baked goods (abot 3 vendors), flowers, coffee (1 vendor).

My previous Farmer's Market experiences were in Chicago and Dallas and gotta say - this one in Wausau is so much less of a pain in the ass. It's well spaced, it has local, seasonal and fresh produce. A couple of delicious meat vendors. Kettle corn, bakery items, honey, floral items, plants, coffee stand, some canned items, granola, some wool (maybe alpaca?) items and that's that. The way a FARMER'S market should be. Items that come from a, that's right - a FARM! It's easy to navigate and everyone has been very much a pleasure to work with. Ninepatch Farm sells their meat here and their chicken is excellent. We've enjoyed wonderful breads and cookies too. The local produce is of course seasonal and excellent. They do offer coins if you only have a debit/credit or even a food stamp card on you. The only problem is not all vendors seem to accept the coins. I really wish they all would. We love getting over there early on Saturday morning and walking around with our daughter. Everyone is so happy and friendly. Just a great way to kick off the weekend.
