We were the first group seated at 5 pm on a Wednesday, and perhaps because of that, our various courses came just as we were ready for them. For me, that was the seafood pate and bread course, the rhubarb and strawberry (cold) soup course, the table-side salad course, entree and dessert. My entree was duck etoufee with red potatoes, which was delicious. My husband's blackened scallops were perfect for him, but too salty for me. Dessert was the flaming Bananas Foster, prepared at your table along with a recitation of the New Orleans origins of the dish. It was as sweet and scrumptious as you can imagine. The only thing that would have improved the meal is larger portions so I would have leftovers! Must know: Reservations are required and they don't pick up the phone after 5 p.m. The bar opens at 4:30 and there is a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy your drink by the lake. Service was outstanding.

Otherwise we probably wouldn't gotten out of there till 10:30 -11:00. Two parties seated after us were served before us. Shrimp and catfish were under cooked and the jambalaya tasted muddy. Will not return.

We pulled up on a Wednesday night in the middle of July and the place was PACKED. We were happy to be able to get a table in the "screened porch", which seemed like the pour over dining area but it was very nice and comfortable. Our waitress, Bailey was delightful! She was a hard worker and understanding the worker shortage in the north woods, it seemed they had no busboys as this poor girl had to not only serve all 5-6 tables in her section, but was forced to buss two of her own tables. Good busboys are the key to turning tables. This young lady who was fairly knowledgeable about the menu although needed to learn a little more about the specials before she got out on the floor. Nevertheless, a quick check on the proper pronunciation and definition of "Pontchartrain Sauce" had me sold on the fried walleye special. Everything is a la carte here so don't be surprised with a pricey tab. That said, IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. I started with a cup of the Hungarian Mushroom soup, which was phenomenal. This was followed up with as I say the fried walleye with pontchatrain sauce and sautéed green beans that were perfectly cooked; crunchy and delectable. My girlfriend had the French Dip with waffle fries. The beef was good, tender and well made. Drinks we well made and not weak. The bartender came directly to our table when there was a question about the flavored vodka they carried. She offered options and made the order perfect. This was a five star experience and I cannot wait to return

Why NOT brats for breakfast?…read more This gas station, general store, bait shop, deli, meat market and breakfast place for locals is asking the real questions, people. As you can see, they do a lot of things here but it seems like they do them well. First - the store is a gem. There are lots of antiques, it's very clean, there's a pretty decent beer selection and the prices are not too bad. Second - the people are NICE. Really, really nice. Third - breakfast. Every day from 7-10am. Pretty sure it's a 95% locals kind of place but you as a discerning traveler will be made welcome. There are brat and tater tot breakfast burritos, omelettes are more - nothing is more than $7. And it's tasty as well. So if you're in the area, you can accomplish many errands, eat some tasty food and support a friendly local business. It's going to be better than the overpriced fare at your resort anyway.

I ordered their skillet which came with hash browns, cheese and their homemade bratwurst topped with two eggs and toast. I elected to order the "large" portion and it proved to be more food than I could finish. Others in my group also tried the skillets and the french toast and everything was enjoyed. Overall I can't say enough nice things about Hogan's. Tom and Stacey, the owners are very friendly and accommodating. The food is fresh and delicious, the portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. I think this is one of the best kept breakfast secrets in the area. Tom mentioned that breakfast orders can also be called in ahead of time and can even be picked up via the drive through. While we were there we wanted to purchase some of the homemade brats to take home. While they didn't have any prepared right then, Tom said he would be happy to make a batch for us and have them wrapped and ready to for pick up the next day. I can't wait to enjoy them! Keep up the good work guys!
