Walker Carpet

Walker Carpet

(1 review)

In April 2014 we contracted Walker Carpet to install vinyl flooring in our home. Kitchen and two…read morebathrooms. Also contracted for carpeting in three bedrooms. Walkers installer, a guy named Rich, was unable to arrive on site within an hour of scheduled time ever. His "reasons" ranged from "I worked late last night"," I had to stay home and watch the kids", " I have to leave this job unfinished because it's my turn to watch the kids" to my favorite, when asked why he was leaving our job unfinished again after a mere 2 hours on site, " I have to work fast, I don't get paid by the hour". During this entire process, myself or my wife had to make time to wait for these people. We had all of the toilets in the house removed for 2 days while we waited for these people to show up on the promised installed date. The carpeting was installed with minimal issues, just a few crooked cuts and one hunk of missing carpet behind a bedroom door. (You get what you pay for...) The vinyl flooring was installed in our kitchen, which had no appliances on site when the install was finally done. All moldings, toilets and vanities were removed as we had just purchased house and were remodeling entire place. The flooring in the kitchen looked as though it was cut without the benefit of a straight edge. Jagged on edges and curled up under the baseboard heat. Several corners were over cut, leaving slices visible in corners. Floor also has waves in it. Installer said "it would settle". Bathroom 1 was floored with remnant from kitchen. More than enough to cover whole room. Room was empty. No vanity, no toilet, empty square room. Vinyl was cut so badly in bathroom 1 that floor boards can be seen around toilet and baseboard. Bathroom 2 was done with vinyl squares. Installer left several crooked joints and more jagged, odd shaped cuts. Numerous calls to Carol Walker, "owner" of Walker Carpet Outlet, who did our quote and sale, led to the installer, ignorant Rich, to return and attempt repairs. Installer stretched and slid flooring, which was not glued or secured to the floor in any way it turns out. He lifted up one of his over-cuts in a corner and actually used folded tape to stick it down. He told us that we would have to shim out our molding to cover his shoddy cuts. I refused because all moldings were off the wall when install was done so flooring could be easily cut to RIGHT SIZE. Bathroom one was looked at by Rich, who said, " Oh, I can't fix that. Sorry". Bathroom two , he looked at crooked joints and gaps and said, "That isn't bad". Missing carpet behind door was "fixed" by Rich taking piece of scrap and tacking it down. After this attempt at repairing our problems was "complete", we called Walker Carpet owner Carol, and told her we were not satisfied with his repairs and were insulted by Rich's attitude and solutions. Many phone messages were left, few were returned. I stopped at the store in June and finally spoke directly to Carol, who is difficult to contact when she knows there is an issue. She told my wife and myself several times about having issues with her installer's work and work ethic. After our talk, Carol called my wife and told us she was ordering a new piece of vinyl to replace our floor in the kitchen and bathroom one. We waited patiently, calling once or twice a month for an update. From July 9th until after Thanksgiving, when we started calling daily because the floor was an embarrassment during our family's Thanksgiving gathering. Carol finally called back in DECEMBER. She gave us stories about her health issues, her inability to get a hold of Rich, and other stories, never answering why she wouldn't return a call since July. Finally on Friday 11 DEC, 8 MONTHS AFTER INSTALL, she arrives to look at the floor. She and her measurement guy walked around, took some pictures and measurements and said, " OK, we're good". They told my wife they'd be in touch after the holidays with a resolution. We informed her that that was unacceptable given the amount of time we have already waited. Carol said, "I'll be in touch Wednesday the 23. Which brings us to today. My wife said Carol called her and told her she would not replace our floor because Rich told her it was acceptable. I called Carol from work and asked why she wasn't going to honor our verbal agreement from JULY to replace the flooring. She told me that she hadn't really ordered flooring as she had told in July. Said that she was letting the issue go because installer told her in June that floor was fine. She has been dodging us and blatantly lying to us for months. She has not offered us a solution for this sub-par job. Now, she is done with us in her mind. I am so frustrated after her "explanation" this afternoon that I called her a thief and am going to file with the local magistrate if this complaint is not resolved ASAP. This is blatant theft by this "Business owner".
