When he came in he seemed very passive not at all what I expected. After explaining his philosophy on the way he trains dogs. He started to recondition Milo & Dukie without pain or treats. He also explained how dogs look at people. Dukie's big problem was that he jumped on people when they entered the house, he is 145lbs and would knock people over. Milo had a real attitude problem he nipped. Within 2 hours he had changed the dogs attitudes, it was an amazing transformation. You can now walk into my house without being jumped on or nipped. The trainer who came to my house with a bag full of noisy metal balls and I was instructed to throw it or shake it to make noise when the dog failed a command. This had the complete opposite effect on our dog, and she cowered and became even less able to follow direction. It may be good for some dogs/breeds, but we had much more success using positive methods than asserting dominance.

We can now bring him to restaurants..walks with people and other dogs around without the craziness and pulling. I did some research and found all the amazing reviews for Heavenly Hounds, so I decided to sign up for their puppy social and puppy Kindergarten class. Stephanie is our instructor and she is awesome, always giving advice and willing to answer all my numerous questions. My puppy is learning and I am learning with him as well. Puppy Social is great as well, it's not a dog free for all. The dogs are split up by size and temperament, this is great for dogs who might be very shy or even extremely outgoing. The trainers watch the dog interactions like a hawk and give you real time feedback on what is appropriate interactions and quickly defuse any interaction that might lead to something not positive. From not being able to walk around the house without having your pant legs pulled at, to sleepless nights (or nights spent on the floor with the pup), and not being able to sit on the couch without being bit, it was becoming too much to handle. Then we decided to go to Steve at A-1 Total Control Dog Training. Years ago, I lived in a development with the most well trained dog I've ever encountered. Being only about 5-6 years old, I vaguely remember my neighbors, my house, and even my friends, but I will never forget this dog. While living here, my family got a Great Pyrenees puppy that enjoyed nothing more than slipping out the door and taking off around the development. Luckily, when the trained dog's owner would see this, he would send his dog in a full sprint to circle around our puppy until we were able to get to her to bring her home. The dog was simply amazing, and was trained by Steve. Now, in just our fifth week of training, our puppy is on track to rival this dog from my childhood. Though she is still young and has a long way to go, Steve gives the tools and instruction for everybody to be able to do so, and we are confident she will get to this level of obedience.
