Looking for a unique outing? This is it! Who doesn't want to spend their morning chilling with wolf-dogs? Tours are run often but by appointment only. They are very popular so plan well in advance. It took me about two months to get a date. Tours are rain or shine, or in my case freezing cold, snowy weather. Because these are hybrid wolfs you can enter the enclosures with them (unlike Lakota Wolf Preserve). The tour guide starts with the wolf-dogs with the lowest percentage of wolf and gradually moves up to the enclosures with higher and higher percentage of wolf. You can very easily see the difference in the wolf-dogs with a higher percentage of wolf in them. Make sure to read the website before going. You cannot wear fur, faux fur, down or puffy jackets, leather, open toed shoes in the enclosures.

Great experience. Highly recommend. The tour was about an hour long and informative. There was plenty of direct interaction with the animals and photo opportunities. I definitely want to go back soon.

We drove here from NYC (just under 2 hours) and we're NOT disappointed. We had such a memorable experience. It's small group setting so make sure you're on time. The team is friendly and the whole experience is quite informative but also fun and the wolves are truly something magical.

For many aspiring wildlife photographers, the closest they get to wolves is in books: Ian McAllister's 'The Last Wild Wolves: Ghosts of the Great Bear Rainforest,' Jim and Jamie Dutcher's 'Living With Wolves,' and Jim Brandenburg's 'White Wolf: Living With An Arctic Legend' to name a few. Others in Maryland follow the breathtaking wolf photography of Jack Mills. But if you want to experience wolf dogs up close and in person, and you live on the East Coast, all it may take is a day trip (reservations and minimal donations are required) to Howling Woods Farm, where wolf dogs or wolf hybrids are rescued, cared for, and given sanctuary. There, you can get close enough to pet wolf dogs with percentages of wolf ranging from 50-75% and to take iPhone photographs of wolf dogs ranging up to 93%. My wife and I first experienced wolf dogs when Howling Woods Farm brought Samson, a mostly deep ebony wolf dog, and Sierra, a prototypical grey and white wolf dog, to the Cape May Annual Birding Festival in 2012. In October of 2017, thanks to Howling Woods Farm's generosity and a substantial donation, we had the opportunity to visit in person and to meet up with six friends and family members to spend a little time there. We reunited with Samson and met Kotori, who resembles an arctic white wolf in his hue. There are rules that must be followed if you visit Howling Woods Farm in Jackson, New Jersey. Carrying food onto the grounds, for example, is expressly forbidden. A small price to pay for memories that will last forever.

We really enjoyed our visit there I found out about this place because some of the wolfdogs were at the Game of thrones party/night at a liberty science center after dark a few months ago . I was excited to see them but they left before I could see them :( Anyway ... You have to make an appointment ahead of time to see the wolf dogs Tour is an hr long - for $20 donation /admission Plenty of pArking in gravel parking lot Enter thru the yellow house/gift shop - check in and pay at counter Tour wAs interesting and very informative We got to meet 6-7 of them - learn about them and take photos with them They even howled for us :) I would come back - probably in the fall or when it's cooler outside

Getting to interact with and learn all about the beautiful wolf dogs residing at this learning center and animal rescue is a truly amazing way to spend an hour of your time. We even got to take pictures with them! I highly recommend booking a tour here! Our tour guide was very informative and I felt safe the entire time. Just a tip that isn't listed on the website or in the booking confirmation email: Leave all your belongings in your car except for your car keys, wallet, and phone/camera; especially scented things that the wolf dogs may smell and want from you (e.g. chapstick, food obviously).

My friends and I had a great experience visiting Howling Woods Farm recently. Being able to interact with wolfdogs was such a unique and fun experience for everyone. The tour lasted about an hour and our tour guide told us about how the wolfdogs arrived at the rescue, explained their personalities (some are certainly more outgoing than others!), and allowed everyone to take photos up close and personal with the wolfdogs. The wolfdogs all have different amounts of wolf and dog in them, but all were gentle and friendly. They're such beautiful creatures!

This was a lovely place and a experience for my husband and I. I had first found this place back in the winter and was trying to make an appointment, but it was hard to work out a schedule and make it a surprise. I finally was able to schedule our visit around the end of June and it worked out great! We were in a group of about 15 people and we were able to get background about the wolves from Colleen and went to 3 different pens allowing us more and more opportunities for pictures and to touch/pet/hug the wolves. Everyone was super nice in the group and we all gave way to each other to take photos and have our photos taken by the the staff. Our group was a little large and we had some with mobility issues, but the staff was great and also allowed additional time so that everyone could have all the pictures and and time they wanted. The staff was great. Very informative and answered all questions. The wolves are so cool and each has such a different personality. They really do such great things and we were happy to contribute. I would definitely come back during different seasons to see the different coats on the wolves!

I loved every minute I spent at Howling Woods Farm! First things first (I'm the realest) there is a $20 mandatory donation per person. For the amount of education and time you spend with the beautiful animals, it's worth it. Plus it goes towards taking care of the wolves so it's worth every penny. My guide when I went was Ab. He was so knowledgeable about these animals and overall just a fun guy. He was able to answer every question and I learned so much from him during the hour I spent there. You can tell that everyone who worked at this rescue really cared about the wolves and bonded with them well. We got to meet 8 wonderful dogs. I can't tell you all their names as my memory always fails me but they're all beautiful and a marvel to look at. One of the more cool things we got to do was hear them howl and it was haunting yet wonderful. Wouldn't mind listening to that every night before I fall asleep lol The first two pens we went into we were able to do photo ops and could pet the wolves during that time only. The last pen you were able to do that and also interact with them. Ab explained that those were the dogs they bring to presentations so the rules don't apply to them as much as the other pens. We were able to pet them freely and they even gave kisses and could give them belly rubs! I'm really glad I got to visit and learn and recommend everyone to do the same if they're interested!

This is a non profit wolf dog rescue. A group of friends and I went this past Saturday. It was a wonderful experience, to where we are all asking each other "when" we are going back. Keep in mind that these are wolf dogs. You can not force them to come up to you, especially to pet them. The guide was very informational and answered all of our questions. She told us the story of each wolf dog and how they had gotten to the farm. The wolf dogs each had their own personality, each of them beautiful in their own way. This rescue does not discriminate against any wolf dog. They had rescued one who had a small malformation. I had also noticed a newer rescue on the way out that caught my heart because we share one thing in common: we only have one eye. It does cost a donation of 20 dollars for about an hours tour. It is worth every single penny. Thank you for supplying for these wonderful animals. These guys are truly doing God's work.

Our tour guide, Steven, was very knowledgeable and passionate about the wolf dogs. You can tell that all of the volunteers there truly care about the wellbeing of these animals. The wolf dogs loved posing for pictures and it was an overall great experience. Will definitely be back in the fall/winter to see them again since we heard they love playing in the snow!

The best one hour experience you will ever have. Lets start of by commending the staff! Our tour guide woman was phenomenal! She was super sweet, informative & very knowledgeable. Her passion for the wolves was so comforting. Now for the main event, THE WOLVES!!!! Im a HUGE animal person. I have three dogs so for me getting to play and pet the wolves was a dream come true. The wolves were super friendly, well behaved & SO beautiful. They were so in their element and welcoming. We even got to take pictures with them and let me tell you they loved the attention, esp when you would scratch their belly! You spend 20$ for the best experience of your life & that money goes straight to the wolves. Howling woods has a good thing going, it really warms my heart knowing they rescue these beautiful animals and provide a safe sanctuary for them. I highly recommend those who enjoy animals to get out there & experience this tour. You will not regret it & its a great way to give back to these beautiful animals. Def will be going back for more! I couldnt get enough of the wolves, they were soo cute. 10/10+ for everything!

What a fun and educational time! I got to interact with wolf dogs (varying percentages of each) and learned a lot about the animals. They are very strict about not wearing any animal product, for obvious reasons. I highly recommend visiting for kids and adults alike! It is very easy to miss, as it does not have great signage in the front. But once you are there, you will love it! There is no actual bathroom on site, but the Port A Potty was surprisingly clean and well maintained. Call for hours of operation as they may vary.

You can interact with our wolfdogs, but you will not be allowed to feed them.

They are extremely communicative, and the events are usually held on Saturdays, but the transport that was bringing the dogs in had troubles and the event ultimately had to be moved to Sunday. I had my phone call at about 11:15 and about 1 PM hours later I was informed about the date change. It is not a typical adoption shelter that I have been to in the past. At the event, there is a ticket system, as in, the earlier you get there the earlier you will be called. While you wait you mingle with the volunteers and the dogs. You get a vibe on which dog feels like the best fit for you. However, be mindful that the crew with MatchDog Rescue does their due diligence and wants the best for EVERY SINGLE DOG. We went to the event with a very specific dog in mind. One that was on the medium/large end. However, the staff that reviewed our application and lifestyle, let us know that the dog might not be the best fit for us in terms of training and size of our home. While it was disappointing to hear, we knew at heart we wanted what was best for the dog and us. As mentioned before there is a mingling period while waiting to be called on by staff. During this period you can meet dogs of all ages, sizes, and all types OUTSIDE of dog cages. We had met several different dogs during this period, just to name a few that I can remember, Nevada, Hewitt, Cassidy, Dukie, and Garret. We bonded with several dogs early on, but with our hearts set on a specific dog, we just enjoyed their presence. However, after being informed that the dog we had our hearts set on was not a good fit for us, we knew which of the many dogs we met during the mingling period we wanted to go on a walk with. We asked if Hewitt was a good fit for us, confirmed he was, took him on a little stroll around the lot, and knew that our hearts were set on him. We went through the process of adopting him and each volunteer we worked with, remembered Hewitt and always told us how he was such a great dog and a cute little snippet or fun fact about Hewitt. There was never a doubt in my mind that Hewitt was not loved under their care. On our way out with Hewitt, the last volunteer that we worked with walked us to our car, ensuring that Hewitt was buckled in and safe and had their very loving and sad goodbyes with each other. Hewitt has been with us for about a week. We are a very calm, but active couple and Hewitt matches exactly that for us. When we are relaxing, he is relaxing. When we are running, Hewitt is right there running with us. It is not something that I considered when I was looking into adopting a dog, but I am extremely grateful the staff at MDR let us know before adopting a dog. If ever in the future I am looking for a second dog, there is no doubt in my mind that MDR will be the first adoption agency I look into.
